A computer-implemented method for increasing record availability on a distributed database system implementing multiple partitioning strategies includes identifying first processing devices of a distributed database system for storing one or more first records in accordance with multiple partitioning strategies, determining that at least two of the first processing devices are identified for storing a given one of the one or more first records, and selecting one or more new processing devices of the distributed database system for storing the given first record to achieve sufficiently high availability of the given record within the distributed database system.

Record replication for multi-column partitioning on distributed database systems

A method is provided for sharing a global memory by a plurality of threads in a memory management system. The method includes allocating, by a controller of the system, thread-local memory areas in the global memory to a given thread and other threads, from among the plurality of threads. The method further includes gathering, by the controller, fragments of the thread-local memory areas previously allocated to the other threads, responsive to the fragments being scanned. The method also includes allocating, by the controller to the given thread, a requested memory size of the fragments of the thread-local memory areas previously allocated to the other threads, responsive to the fragments not being collectively smaller than the requested memory size. The method additionally includes allocating, by the controller to the given thread, a new memory area from the global memory, responsive to the fragments being collectively smaller than the requested memory size.

Sharing consumed off-heap for parallel data loading

A method is provided for improving a hit ratio of a buffer cache in a system in which vertices of a DAG have tasks that generate intermediate data stored in the buffer cache. The method tracks (i) a buffer cache usage by vertices that have finished running and (ii) a current available buffer cache space. Responsive to a new task being runnable and having dependent parent vertices, the method estimates a total buffer cache usage of current running vertices based on a partial result of the current running vertices. Responsive to the estimate exceeding current available buffer cache space, the method (i) selects a vertex having a most amount of intermediate data stored in the buffer cache for its dependent parent vertices, and (ii) increases a priority of the tasks in the selected vertex to obtain prioritized tasks. The method executes the prioritized tasks earlier than other remaining runnable tasks.

Lazy data loading for improving memory cache hit ratio in DAG-based computational system

A method, computer program product, and apparatus for buffering data sets are provided. The method includes preparing at least one buffer including a plurality of compression windows. The method also includes receiving a data set. The method further includes writing the received data set into a data region in a first compression window among the plurality of compression windows included in a first buffer among the at least one buffer. The method also includes updating statistics of a statistics region in the first compression window based on the received data set. The method further includes compressing the data set from the data region of the first compression window based on the statistics in the statistics region of the first compression window. The method also includes sending the compressed data set to the data region of the first compression window to replace the received data set.

A damper for a loudspeaker has an improved linearity of the amount of strain caused by the vibrational energy to vibrational energy exerted on the damper to enable the loudspeaker to reproduce sounds in a high fidelity. The damper is formed such that the modulus of elasticity with respect to a direction perpendicular to the surface of the damper is uniform on a circle with its center at the center of the damper, and portions respectively on concentric circles with their centers at the center of the damper are different in modulus of elasticity with respect to a direction perpendicular to the surface of the damper from each other.

A loudspeaker has two magnets disposed directly with respect to voice coils for generating a repulsion magnetic field at the voice coils, without interposition of yoke but with mutually repulsing magnetic polarities of the magnets, and a diaphragm directly coupled at inner peripheral edge substantially to the center of outer periphery of the voice coils. Driving force is transmitted highly efficiently from the voice coils to the diaphragm, and the loudspeaker can be sufficiently minimized in the thickness and weight.

In order to increase the heat exchange capacity and efficiency of a cooling fin for an automotive radiator, air conditioner heat exchanger, or the like, a plurality of small triangular or similar shaped projections which produce a texture similar to that of a vegetable grater, are arranged to project into the flow of a fluid medium which passes over the fin in a manner to split a part of the flow into spiralling flow patterns which curl along the surface of fin downstream of the projections and transfer heat from said surface to the fluid medium or vice versa.
