A sheet storage device includes a cartridge and a body. The cartridge has a tape reel and a holder. The holder holds the tape reel. The body has a drum that winds, together with a tape drawn out of the tape reel, a sheet around the drum to house the sheet. The cartridge is detachably attached to the body.

A sheet storage device includes a tape reel, a drum around which a sheet is wound together with a tape drawn out of the tape reel, and a first motor configured to drive at least the tape reel. The drum is provided such that a first rotation axis of the drum is parallel with a second rotation axis of the tape reel, and the tape reel and the first motor are arranged to at least partially overlap with each other as viewed along the second rotation axis of the tape reel.

A sheet processing machine stores sheets transported by a transport unit. The sheet processing machine includes: a reel on which a first end side of a tape is wound; a first stepper motor that rotates the reel about a rotation axis of the reel; a drum configured to wind up a second end side of the tape together with the sheets to form a winding body together with the tape and the sheets; a second stepper motor that rotates the drum about a rotation axis of the drum; and circuitry configured to change an interval between the sheets wound on the drum by controlling a rotation of the first stepper motor and the second stepper motor based on a parameter indicating a condition of the winding body.

In a storage operation, a first tape and a second tape are wound around a drum with a paper sheet sandwiched therebetween to store the paper sheet, the first tape being positioned outside the paper sheet in a radial direction of the drum. In a feeding operation, the first tape is wound around a first reel, and the second tape is wound around a second reel to feed the paper sheet from the drum. In at least one of the storage operation or the feeding operation, greater tension acts on the first tape than on the second tape.

A paper sheet storing/feeding device (e.g., escrow unit) includes a rotary member (e.g., drum) to an outer peripheral surface of which one end of a belt-shaped winding member (e.g., tapes) that winds a plurality of paper sheets one by one is connected, and a guiding unit () that guides a paper sheet to prevent the paper sheet from sandwiching the winding member from both sides when the paper sheet is fed from the rotary member by unwinding the winding member from the rotary member.
