The present invention provides a plastic-coated metal plate for an automobile exterior plate which is a laminate metal plate coated on both faces or one face of the metal plate with a plastic layer, wherein the plastic layer has a surface tension of at least 30 mN/m, an elongation percentage of at least 30% at a tensile rate of 20 mm/minute/20&#xb0; C. and a rupture strength of at least 600 kg/cmat a tensile rate of 20 mm/minute/20&#xb0; C., and a part for a major external face side in a car body, wherein the above plastic-coated metal plate is cut, molded and joined to form the part for a major external face side in a car body, and a metal-exposed part thereof is coated by electrodeposition.

The present invention provides a plastics-covered metal plate excellent in chipping resistance, corrosion resistance etc. made by covering one surface or both surfaces of a metal plate with at least two kinds of plastics layers whose rates of elongation are different and a process of covering a car body by using said covered metal plate.

This invention provides a car body coating process wherein the metal-exposed portion of a shell body, a part or whole of which has been made of plastics-covered metal plates, is electrocoated with use of an electrodeposition paint which contains no coloring pigment and has a bath solid content of at most 10% by weight and which is capable of forming a clear coating film.
