A method and apparatus for adjusting a color difference signal of an image includes a video signal processor. The video signal processor receives a luminance signal and color difference signals representing the image, and accesses a color saturation level from a color saturation level table stored in memory based on the color difference signals. The video signal processor then detects flesh tone in areas of the image based on the luminance signal and the color saturation level, and generates a flesh tone detecting signal based on results of the flesh tone detection.

The color video camera has a processing circuit which converts electrical signals obtained from an imager into a luminance signal and color-difference signals. The color video camera further includes a memory which stores a table of values designating color saturation levels and corresponding to a specific hue of a background color. The memory outputs a color saturation level based on the color difference signals obtained by imaging an object on a background of the specific hue. This color saturation level is compared with the luminance signal, and based on the comparison results the luminance signal and color difference signals are separated into components corresponding to the background area and components corresponding to the object area.

A flesh-tone area is detected based on color-difference and luminance signals constituting video signals, and luminance correction, color correction, and aperture correction are performed only on the flesh-tone area or a human face area identified in the flesh-tone area. The setting of a focus area or the setting of a photometric area for iris control, automatic gain control, automatic shutter control, etc., in a video camera, is performed with respect to the flesh-tone area or the human face area. Furthermore, based on the color-difference and luminance signals constituting the video signals, a background area is detected, and the video signals are divided into components representing a background area and components representing an object area. An image signal of a desired hue or a still image is superimposed on the detected background area, or special processing is performed on the video signals representing the object area other than the detected background area.

A tool monitoring system for detecting a tool failure of a tool employed in a tool machine, comprising artificial signal generating unit for generating a predetermined artificial tool failure signal simulating the acoustic emission signal obtained in an actual failure of the tool, acoustic emission transducing unit adapted to be mounted on the tool machine near the tool and driven by the artificial signal generating unit for applying the artificial tool failure signal to the tool machine, acoustic emission sensing unit mounted on the tool machine near the tool so as to receive, in a setting mode of the system where the transducing unit is mounted on the machine, the applied artificial tool failure signal from the acoustic emission transducing unit through the tool machine and, in a monitoring mode of the system where the tool is operated, an acoustic emission from the tool, and signal processing unit for analyzing an output signal generated from the acoustic emission sensing unit to detect the tool failure of the tool.

A heat melting type gas extraction apparatus is employed to measure oxygen in a silicon sample. A double graphite crucible is first heated, in the absence of the sample or a flux metal, to extract oxygen therein. The flux metal is then added to the crucible and heated to extract oxygen therein. The sample is then added, melted, and heated to produce a sample gas for analysis.

A gas analyzer has a light source having a window, an open-ended, hollow cylinder aligned with the light source and through which the light from the light source passes, and a detector at the other end of the cell and having a window for receiving the light which has passed through the hollow cylinder. A chopper is provided in the hollow cylinder and is rotatable around an axis perpendicular to the optical path through the hollow cylinder for interrupting the light passing along the optical path. The hollow cylinder has a gas inlet therein at a portion where the optical path for the cell is not screened thereby. The ends of the hollow cylinder are adjacent the light source window and the detector window which serve as cell windows, respectively, at least one of these windows being spaced from the end of the hollow cylinder to define a gap therebetween constituting a gas outlet.

An automatic apparatus for loading and feeding crucibles to and removing crucibles from a combustion furnace in which metals are burned for analyzing them. The apparatus has a part for automatically transporting crucibles to a sample weighing position one by one, a sample weighing device at the sample weighing position, and a supply device for placing the desired quantity of metal to be analyzed into crucibles at the sample weighing position. A storage device for automatically storing crucibles containing samples therein extends from the sample weighing position, and a device takes crucibles out of the storage device one by one and a further device automatically takes the crucibles from said taking out device and introduces them into a combustion furnace and removes the crucibles from the combustion furnace. A device then automatically dumps the crucibles removed from the combustion furnace after the completion of analysis. The storage device has a carrying trough for holding a line of crucibles, a stop at the downstream end of the carrying trough and movable into and out of engagement with the crucible at the downstream end of the carrying trough, and a pusher for pushing crucibles from the sample weighing position along the carrying trough and having a device for discontinuing the pushing action of said pusher when a crucible being pushed engages the stop or a crucible preceeding a crucible stopped by the stop.

Automatic apparatus for analyzing metals

A switching regulator having a blocking oscillator including a transistor, and a transformer with primary, secondary, and positive feedback windings. A rectifying and smoothing circuit is connected to the load and includes a photodiode coupled to a phototransistor connected to the blocking oscillator transistor in the feedback path for adjusting feedback to maintain output voltage at a constant level. A second positive feedback circuit connects between the phototransistor and the blocking oscillator transistor to assure stable oscillation of the blocking oscillator.
