An outboard motor including an engine holder, an in-line multi-cylinder type engine disposed above the engine holder in a mounted usable state of the outboard motor, an oil pan disposed below the engine holder, and an engine cover covering the engine holder, engine and oil pan. The in-line multi-cylinder type engine includes vertically arranged cylinders and a crank chamber of a crank case corresponding to a lowermost cylinder has both shoulder portions formed by a wall section continuous to a wall section of the lowermost cylinder and extending in a direction normal thereto and another wall section substantially parallel to the wall section of the lowermost cylinder so as to define shapes of the shoulder portions to be substantially square in section.

Outboard motor

An engine unit of an outboard motor comprises an engine body, a crank case in which a crankshaft is vertically perpendicularly arranged in a usable mounted state of the outboard motor, a cylinder block which is disposed to a rear side of the crank case and in which cylinders are arranged, a cylinder head disposed to a rear side of the cylinder block, a magnet device mounted to a top end portion of the crankshaft projecting upward and comprising a stator and a flywheel to which a rotor is integrally formed. In the engine unit, the crankshaft is supported by a bearing boss disposed to a mating portion of the cylinder block and the crank case through a bearing means and an oil seal is disposed between the bearing boss and the bearing means, and the magnet device is mounted to the engine body through the stator through a mounting portion. A diameter of the mounting portion of the stator is to be larger than an outer diameter of the oil seal.

Engine unit of outboard motor

An outboard motor includes an engine disposed above an engine holder in a mounted usable state of the outboard motor, and the engine comprises a crankcase in which a crankshaft extends vertically perpendicularly, a cylinder block disposed rear side of the crankcase, and a cylinder head disposed rear side of the cylinder block. A starter motor mounted to a front surface of the crank case and an oil filter is further mounted to the crank case at a portion below the starter motor.

An outboard motor includes an engine holder, an engine which is disposed above the engine holder in a state of the outboard motor mounted to a hull and in which a crankshaft extends substantially perpendicularly, and an oil pan disposed below the engine holder. A drive shaft housing is disposed below the oil pan and is formed with an exhaust chamber and a water pump is driven by the drive shaft so as to pump up a cooling water. A cooling water passage is formed in the oil pan and the drive shaft housing to guide the cooling water pumped up by the water pump to the engine. A relief valve is disposed on the way of the cooling water passage so as to discharge the cooling water into the exhaust chamber.

An outboard motor generally includes an engine holder, an engine disposed above the engine holder in a state of the outboard motor being mounted to a hull, an oil pan disposed below the engine holder, and a drive shaft housing disposed below the oil pan. Exhaust passages are formed in the engine holder and the oil pan and adapted to exhaust an exhaust gas from the engine into the drive shaft housing, one exhaust passage formed to the oil pan has a downstream side end opening, and an exhaust tube is provided for a bottom surface portion of the oil pan so as to align with the downstream side end opening of the one exhaust passage. The exhaust tube having a downstream side outlet positioned, in a plan view, at a substantially central portion of the drive shaft housing.

An outboard motor includes an engine unit in which a crank shaft in a manner that the upper end, in a state of the outboard motor to a hull, projects outside the engine unit and a rotational member such as flywheel magneto device is covered by an engine cover, and the engine unit is covered by an outboard motor cover to which an atmospheric air intake port is formed. The engine cover is composed of inner and outer wall sections between which a closed inner space is defined, the engine cover is connected to a silencer so that the closed inner space of the engine cover is communicated with an inner space of the silencer so as to define an air passage, and an intake port is formed to the air passage to be communicated with the air passage. The atmospheric air introduced through the intake port flows the air passage of the structure mentioned above towards a throttle body with reduced intake noise.
