The required fuel supply amount of an internal combustion engine is reduced by limiting the throttle opening when a high-pressure fuel pump is required to discharge fuel that exceeds the fuel delivery capacity thereof. Further, when the throttle opening is limited, the operation of a return valve, through which fuel and vapor thereof can be discharged from the high-pressure fuel pump, is prohibited. By performing the abovementioned control, a reduction in the fuel delivery amount of the high-pressure fuel pump due to the operation of the return valve is prevented when there is a possibility that the fuel deliver amount of the high-pressure fuel pump runs short and the fuel supply amount of the internal combustion engine runs short.

Control device for internal combustion engine

In an engine including an in-cylinder injector and an intake manifold injector, the fuel injection ratio between the injectors with respect to a total fuel injection quantity in the homogeneous combustion operation is normally set in accordance with the engine operation state (engine speed, load factor). Upon transition from the stratified charge combustion operation to the homogeneous combustion operation, the fuel injection ratio is modified from that of the normal operation during a prescribed control period so that the fuel injection quantity from the intake manifold injector is increased than in the normal operation state, considering that the fuel newly injected via the in-cylinder injector immediately after transition of operation mode is likely to deposit inside the combustion chamber because of the fuel deposited therein during the stratified charge combustion operation. This prevents combustion deterioration in the engine upon transition of the operation mode.

Control apparatus of internal combustion engine

The engine ECU executes the program including the step of starting a timer that counts the time elapsed from a start request, the step of detecting a temperature of the engine, and the step of calculating a DI ratio r such that the fuel is injected from the in-cylinder injector as well, when the engine is in the very cold or cold state, when there is no abnormality in the fuel system, and when starting of the engine is not yet detected even after a lapse of a predetermined period of time from the start request, only if the fuel pressure in the high-pressure system is not lower than a fuel pressure threshold value.

Control apparatus for internal combustion engine

A driving force generated by an engine is transmitted to driving wheels (not shown) via an automatic transmission. The engine is provided with an electronically controlled throttle body and the like. An E-ECU performs cooperative control when necessary, so that an output of the engine is obtained in accordance with a load applied thereto. On the other hand, the automatic transmission is provided with a torque converter. Even in the case where the aforementioned predetermined condition has been fulfilled in a T-ECU, if the E-ECU detects a deterioration in performance of the electronically controlled throttle body or the like, the performance of neutral control is prohibited.
