Provided is an artificial joint that can improve fatigue strength while achieving the ability to fix to a bone. An artificial jointincludes a stem portion. The stem portionhas a distal end for insertion into a bone and a proximal end opposite the distal end and includes a roughened surface portionwhich is provided in a proximal end-side portion, which has a rougher surface than a distal end-side portion, and which is larger in cross-sectional area than the distal end-side portion. The roughened surface portionincludes a distal end-side edge sectionand a proximal end-side section, the distal end-side edge sectionincluding a distal end-side edge portion of the roughened surface portion, the proximal end-side sectionbeing configured as a section closer to the proximal end than the distal end-side edge sectionis to the proximal end. A light emitter driving device has a decoder portion which monitors a rectified voltage and generates a dimming signal, and a drive current control portion which controls a drive current to a light emitter according to the dimming signal. The decoder portion has a comparator which compares the rectified voltage with a predetermined threshold voltage to generate a comparison signal, a sampling counter which measures high-level and low-level periods of the comparison signal, a duty calculation portion which calculates the duty of the rectified voltage based on the output of the sampling counter, a filter calculation portion which excludes sporadic variation in duty by applying digital filtering to the output of the duty calculation portion, and a dimming signal generation portion which generates the dimming signal based on the output of the filter calculation portion.
