A semiconductor device with a lateral element includes a semiconductor substrate, first and second electrodes on the substrate, and a resistive field plate extending from the first electrode to the second electrode. The lateral element passes a current between the first and second electrodes. A voltage applied to the second electrode is less than a voltage applied to the first electrode. The resistive field plate has a first end portion and a second end portion opposite to the first end portion. The second end portion is located closer to the second electrode than the first end portion. An impurity concentration in the second end portion is equal to or greater than 1&#xd7;10cm.

Semiconductor device having lateral element

An ejector cycle device includes a gas-liquid separator for separating a refrigerant flowing out of an ejector into gas-phase refrigerant and liquid-phase refrigerant. The gas-liquid separator further separates refrigeration oil from the refrigerant. The refrigeration oil used by the ejector cycle device is less compatible to the refrigerant on the low-pressure side than the compatibility of the refrigeration oil with the refrigerant on a high-pressure side.

Ejector cycle device

An ejector includes a nozzle and a needle valve formed in a tapered shape. The needle valve controls a throttle opening degree of the nozzle from a minimum degree to a maximum degree while an end section of the needle valve is positioned on a downstream side with respect to a throat section of the nozzle. Besides, a cross-sectional area of a nozzle diffuser is formed to be substantially constant, downstream of the throat section. Thus, a cross-sectional area of a substantial refrigerant passage defined by an inner surface of the nozzle and the needle valve is gradually widened in accordance with the tapered shape of the needle valve. Therefore, pressure loss accompanied with a rapid expanding can be suppressed. As a result, the throttle opening degree of the nozzle can be controlled while improving nozzle efficiency and ejector efficiency.

An ejector for a refrigerant cycle includes a nozzle having therein a refrigerant passage, and a needle valve provided in the refrigerant passage of the nozzle upstream from a throat portion of the nozzle. The needle valve is disposed in the nozzle to define therebetween a throttle portion that is positioned upstream from the throat portion. A top end portion of the needle valve and an inner wall of the nozzle are formed, so that refrigerant is decompressed to a gas-liquid two-phase state at upstream of the throat portion. Accordingly, a throttle degree of the nozzle can be variably controlled while ejector efficiency is not deteriorated.

A hybrid type compressor is provided that is drivable by an electric motor and an external driving source. The hybrid type compressor includes a housing and a compression mechanism. A shaft is rotatably supported by the housing for transmitting rotational driving force to the compression mechanism. The electric motor unit generates rotational driving force for rotating the shaft and includes a stator fixed to the housing and a rotor rotatable with respect to the stator. The hybrid type compressor also includes a pulley for receiving rotational driving force generated by the external driving source and for transmitting the rotational driving force to the shaft. Additionally, a one-way clutch is provided between the pulley and the shaft for allowing the rotational driving force generated by the external driving source to be transmitted only from the pulley to the shaft.

Hybrid type compressor driven by engine and electric motor

In a hybrid type compressor, a one-way clutch is provided between a magnet rotor and a rotor shaft for allowing rotational driving force generated by an electric motor unit to be transmitted only from a rotor to a shaft. Thus, the rotational driving force generated by a vehicle engine is not transmitted from the rotor shaft to the magnet rotor. That is, an inertia moment of a rotational system with respect to a vehicle engine is made small, thereby reducing the impact vibration when the clutch mechanism engages.

A thrust bearing mechanism receives thrust force which is an element force of a compression counter-force acting on a movable scroll member, and which is perpendicular to the orbital direction of the movable scroll member. The thrust bearing mechanism includes plural substantially cylindrically-shaped first and second rollers. The first roller rotates in one direction, and the second roller rotates perpendicularly to the first roller. Thus, the contact surface area of the rollers is larger than that in which spherical rollers receive the thrust force, thereby suppressing the compressor from being enlarged to accommodate increased thrust forces, and improving the reliability and durability of the compressor.

Compressor having thrust bearing mechanism

A compact, lightweight electric motor driven compressor suitable for an air conditioning system using a CO,refrigerant is disclosed. The thickness of a motor casing is reduced by using the gaps formed in the motor portion in a motor casing as a part of a low-pressure intake chamber, while forming a part of the discharge chamber by utilizing the annular gap between the inner surface of a pump casing and the outer surface of a compressor portion. In the case where CO,refrigerant is used, the compressor portion can be reduced in size and therefore a dead space is generated due to the difference in size with the motor casing. Since this dead space is used as a discharge chamber, the capacity of the discharge chamber can be increased to suppress the discharge pulsation.

Electric motor driven compressor

A variable discharge-amount compressor includes a compression unit for compressing refrigerant, and a discharge-amount varying unit for varying a discharge amount of refrigerant discharged from the compression unit. The discharge-amount varying unit has a first control room communicating with inlet and outlet of the compression unit, a second control room communicating with the inlet, and a third control room communicating with the second control room through a orifice. The first control room communicates with the inlet through a control passage opened and closed by a control valve. Further, a bypass passage communicating with the inlet is opened when the control passage is opened. Therefore, when an engine for driving the compressor is rotated to be accelerated, a pressure difference is generated between a pressure inside the second control room and a pressure inside the third control room, thereby opening the control passage and the bypass passage. Thus, the compressor can reduce a discharge amount of refrigerant during an acceleration of the engine without any extra detector or control device, resulting in a low production cost.

Variable discharge-amount compressor for refrigerant cycle

A CO.sub.2 compressor is disclosed for forcing and moving a lubricant under discharge pressure. If the oil path is reduced in size or a pressure reducing part is inserted to handle the large differential pressure caused between the discharge pressure and the intake pressure, the oil path would become liable to be easily clogged by foreign matter. In view of this, an intermittent oil supply mechanism is formed in the oil path using the sliding contact portion between a fixed member of the compressor body and a movable member. Thus, the substantial lubrication time period is shortened and the amount of oil supplied is limited.

CO.sub.2 compressor

In a scroll type compressor to be applied to a gas-injection type refrigerating cycle, an injection port is formed in a pressure receiving surface of a front housing, and a communication port is formed in a pressure transmitting surface of a movable scroll member. A spacer is provided between the pressure receiving surface and the pressure transmitting surface, and is fixed to the pressure receiving surface. The spacer has a penetration hole at a position corresponding to the injection port formed in the pressure receiving surface.

A swash plate type compressor having pistons, each defining on opposite sides compression chambers 38 and 39. The cross sectional area of the operating chamber 39 located adjacent the driving source is larger than the cross sectional area of the operating chamber 38 located away from the driving source in such a manner that the axial force F0 generated in a rotating shaft 5 due to the difference between the pressure at the swash plate chamber and the atmospheric pressure is substantially canceled by the axial forces F1 and F2 generated in the rotating shaft due to the refrigerant pressure acting on the piston 8 in the operating chambers 38 and 39.

A scroll type compressor using a crank mechanism having enough freedom so that an amount of eccentricity of the movable scroll member becomes variable. An elastic body is inserted between the facing surfaces striking each other in the inside of the crank mechanism so as to prevent generation of a noise due to the collision of the parts when starting up or shutting down the compressor.

A scroll-type refrigerant compressor having a movable scroll unit and a stationary scroll unit which has a fixed stationary end plate in which a plurality of bypass ports and a discharge port are formed through which the refrigerant compressed in the pockets formed between the movable and stationary scroll units is discharged via check valves covering the bypass ports and the discharge port and preventing a reverse flow of the discharged refrigerant into the pockets. The compressor further having a suction port fluidly connected to an evaporator of an air-conditioning system, a delivery port fluidly connected to a condenser of the air-conditioning system, and a fluid channel for providing a fluid communication between the suction and delivery ports via a solenoid-operated valve for blocking and unblocking the fluid channel. The compressor can be switched from the ordinary 100% capacity to 0% capacity and vice versa.

Scroll-type refrigerant compressor

In a scroll type compressor, when the operation of the compressor is stopped, compression chambers, for compressing a fluid, and a suction chamber are communicated with each other through bypass holes, and a spool valve to open and close the holes, so that the pressure in the compression chambers are lowered and the occurrence of a shock caused by a sharp increase in the load is prevented at the next start. Since the discharge pressure to drive the spool valve is introduced from a position upstream of the discharge valve, pressure is quickly lowered when the compressor stops, so that the spool valve can be quickly opened. Therefore, even when the compressor is frequently started and stopped, the occurrence of a shock can be positively prevented when the compressor starts.
