A mark detection apparatus includes a reading unit, a converter, and a determination part. The reading unit reads an image on a document. The converter compares respective portions of the image read by the reading unit with a plurality of preset reference patterns, and converts a portion of the image to a character associated with a corresponding reference pattern. The determination part determines that the portion of the image to have been compared on the document is a mark in a case in which the character converted by the converter is a preset first reference character, and that the portion of the image to have been compared on the document is not a mark in a case in which the character converted by the converter is not a preset first reference character.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a magneto-optical recording medium including a recording film having at least a reproduction layer, an intermediate layer, and a recording layer, on an optical disk substrate, wherein the recording film is a magnetic film that is magnetically coupled and that has magnetic anisotropy in a direction vertical to its film surface, the recording magnetic domains formed in the recording layer are transferred to the reproduction layer, and recording information is reproduced by domain wall movement in the reproduction layer, and the recording layer has columnar structures that are oriented substantially vertically. Thus, it is possible to provide a magneto-optical recording medium with which signals below the diffraction limit of the light spot for recording and reproducing information can be reproduced at high speed, with which the recording density and the transfer speed can be significantly increased, and with which stable recording magnetic domains can be formed even if recorded at high density.

Magneto-optical recording medium having a recording layer of columnar structure

A magneto-optical recording medium, including a recording layer, a transfer control layer magnetically coupled to the recording layer, and a reproduction layer. The recording layer includes a recording magnetic domain in which information is recorded by a magnetization direction vertical to the surface of the film. The reproduction layer includes a reproduction magnetic domain in which information in the recording layer is transferred and formed as a magnetization direction by magnetic coupling. The direction of magnetization of the recording magnetic domain of the recording layer and the direction of magnetization of the transfer control layer corresponding to the recording magnetic domain are in opposite directions in at least part of the range of temperatures less than a transfer temperature where the reproduction magnetic domain is transferred to the reproduction layer. The Curie point temperature of the transfer control layer is higher than this transfer temperature.

An optical information recording medium of the present invention includes a transparent substrate and a multi-layered film provided on the transparent substrate. The multi-layered film includes at least a recording layer that is changed between two or more different states capable of being detected by irradiation with a light beam, and a light absorbing layer in this order from a side close to the transparent substrate. The recording layer contains a material represented by a formula: Ge(BiSb)Te(where x&#x2267;5 and 0&#x3c;y&#x2266;1) as a main component. Such a multi-layered film including a recording layer also is applicable to a multi-layered recording medium including a first information layer to an N-th information layer (N is an integer of 2 or more) disposed on a transparent substrate in this order from a side close to the transparent substrate. A magneto-optical recording medium includes a first magnetic layer and a second magnetic layer. The first magnetic layer is an in-plane magnetized film at room temperature, but changes to a perpendicular magnetized film at a predetermined temperature higher than room temperature, and is thin enough to allow a light beam to pass through it. The second magnetic layer has perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and is arranged to allow magnetic coupling to the first magnetic layer when a light beam for reproduction comes from the first magnetic layer side. The rotation of the polarization plane of a light beam which is reflected off the first magnetic layer and the rotation of the polarization plane of the light beam which passed through the first magnetic layer and reflected off the second magnetic layer compensate each other, thereby canceling each other.

Magneto-optical recording medium having multiple magnetic layers and reproducing method thereof

The document feeder includes a document original plate for holding thereon document originals, a document original feeding mechanism for feeding a document original from the document original plate onto a contact glass, a document original transporting mechanism for transporting the document original fed by the document original feeding mechanism along the upper surface of the contact glass, a document original discharging mechanism for discharging the document original transported by the document original transporting mechanism, and a document original discharge plate for receiving the document original discharged by the document original discharging mechanism. The document original feeding mechanism, the document original transporting mechanism and the document original discharging mechanism are integrally supported in a unit body to constitute a single unit.

A sheet feeding apparatus having a feeding roller for feeding a sheet, a support shaft forwardly and reversely rotatable integrally with the feeding roller and a stopper disposed upstream of the feeding roller in the sheet feeding direction for temporarily regulating the feed of a sheet to the feeding roller. When the rotation in one direction of the feeding roller is transmitted to a locking member through a one-way clutch, the locking member is rotated to lock the stopper. An image-forming machine comprises a sheet member conveying passage extending through a transfer zone and a fixing zone, a sheet member-feeding means for feeding a sheet member onto the sheet member conveying passage, and a sheet member conveying means for conveying the sheet member through the sheet member conveying passage. The one side portion of the intermediate lower wall is defined by the opening/closing member, and opening/closing member is brought to the open position to open the downstream end portion of the sheet member conveying passage. After the leading edge of the sheet member delivered onto the sheet member conveying passage is brought into contact with the nip of the pair of register rollers, the pair of register rollers are preliminarily rotated for only a predetermined period of time.

An image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes a first processing device which processes in a normal mode for dynamically driving photoelectric detectors in groups so as to sequentially read detection signals from the photoelectric detectors in the groups, second processing device which process in a photoelectric detector check mode for driving a designated group of photoelectric detectors.
