The present technique relates to an information processing apparatus and a method capable of realizing a communication tool of a new mode. An LED emits light according to a light emission pattern identified based on a set of light emission parameters indicating characteristics of light emission. An action control unit controls the light emission pattern of the LED based on a relationship between the self apparatus and a group to which the self apparatus and at least one other information processing apparatus including the LED belong, or a relationship between the other information processing apparatus and the self apparatus belonging to the group. The present technique may be applied to an information processing apparatus used as a communication tool.

The present technique relates to an information processing device and an information processing method that can realize new forms of communication tools. LEDs emit light in accordance with a light emission pattern specified by a combination of light emission parameters that represent light emission characteristics. A light emission control unit performs control to select a light emission pattern from among two or more preset light emission patterns, based on a change in physical quantity resulting from an action of a user, and cause a light-emitting unit to emit light in accordance with the selected light emission pattern. The present technique can be applied to information processing devices used as communication tools.

A KLV encoder KLV-encodes a filler for the body according to the KLV structure. The present invention can be applied to a disk apparatus that records video data or audio data on optical disks.

An information recording control apparatus that automatica1ly selects a recording device at the time of file recording. In response to a file recording request from a terminal apparatus and in accordance with the device information about recording devices, which is stored in a management information database, and the attribute information about a file, which is received from a terminal apparatus, an information recording control apparatus searches for a recording device available for recording from among a plurality of recording devices, and selects a recording device for use in recording. The information recording control apparatus changes the status of the selected recording device so that no other recording operation is performed, and transmits the information for identifying the selected recording device to the terminal apparatus. The terminal apparatus sets the recording device designated by the information recording control apparatus as the recording destination, and begins to transmit the file. The selected recording device records the received file on an inserted recording medium.
