A disk drive includes a casing for enclosing at least a disk and a head. Rectification walls are disposed at corners of the casing. The walls serve to rectify an air stream generated by rotation of the disk at the periphery of the rotating disk. A bypass is defined between the side wall of the casing and at least one rectification wall. A filter is disposed in the bypass for catching dust in the air stream. A parameter d/L, where d is the width of an entrance of the bypass and L is the length of the comer along the periphery of the disk, is determined so that vibration of the rotating disk is equal to or less than an admissible value estimated from a tracking error margin. The tracking error margin is estimated from a track pitch on the disk. Reliable positioning of the head with respect to the disk can be achieved with the present invention.

A magnetic disk apparatus including magnetic disks and a magnetic head assembly for access to the magnetic disks. The magnetic head assembly includes a head carriage having a hub and integral head arms, magnetic heads being carried by the head arms. A flexible printed circuit is attached to the side surface of the head carriage via a double sided pressure sensitive adhesive tape which provides a layer of elastomeric material to mitigate a deformation of the head carriage relative to the flexible printed circuit and the bearings supporting the head carriage to improve the off-track of the magnetic disks.

A magnetic disk storage device having a magnetic shield for shielding a magnetic servo-head from noise generated by an adjacent data-head during a write operation when both magnetic heads are arranged back-to-back in a space between two magnetic disks stacked co-axially. The shield plate is secured to an inner surface of a base portion of a housing of the device, thus avoiding an increase in the weight and moment of inertia of moving members of a head positioner.
