A radio wave sensor includes a transmitting antenna configured to radiate radio waves, a receiving antenna configured to receive incoming radio waves, and a housing that is composed of dielectric material and faces the transmitting and receiving antennas. The housing has a first part that faces the transmitting antenna, a second part that faces the receiving antenna, and a third part between the first and second parts. In a facing direction in which a bottom board of the housing faces the transmitting and receiving antennas, respective thickness of the first and second parts is thicker than thickness of the third part.

An antenna apparatus is provided with: a dielectric substrate, a front array including a feed element and a plurality of parasitic elements, the feed element being formed on the dielectric substrate and having one radiation direction, and the plurality of parasitic elements being formed on the dielectric substrate in an area located in the radiation direction with respect to the feed element; and at least one side array including a plurality of parasitic elements formed on the dielectric a substrate in at least an area located in a direction other than the radiation direction with respect to the feed element. In each parasitic element array, each of parasitic elements has a strip shape substantially parallel to a longitudinal direction of a dipole antenna, and the parasitic elements are formed at predetermined intervals. For example, the interval is set to be equal to or smaller than &#x215b; of a wavelength &#x3bb; of a high-frequency signal to be fed to a feeder line. The parasitic element arrays are arranged so as to form a plurality of pseudo-slot openings that allow a radio wave from the dipole antenna to propagate therethrough as magnetic currents.

Parasitic elements of each parasitic element pair have a strip shape, and are formed on a straight line, which is parallel to a longitudinal direction of a printed dipole antenna and is positioned in a radiation direction of radio wave from the printed dipole antenna, so as to have a gap of a predetermined interval. The parasitic element pairs and the dipole antenna are arranged at predetermined intervals so as to oppose to and to be electromagnetically coupled to each other.

A dielectric antenna of the present invention includes a pillar-shaped dielectric section for radiating an electromagnetic wave being fed thereto. The dielectric section includes a depressed portion in an upper portion thereof. The vertical cross section of the depressed portion has such a shape that the height of the dielectric section gradually increases toward the side surface of the dielectric section. For example, the depressed portion is a notch having a V-shaped vertical cross section. Alternatively, the depressed portion includes a flat surface portion.

A traveling-wave combining array antenna apparatus includes first and second traveling-wave array antennas. The first traveling-wave array antenna has a plurality of antenna elements provided at intervals along a first feeder line, and has a radiating directivity characteristic. The second traveling-wave array antenna has a plurality of antenna elements provided at intervals along a second feeder line, and has a main beam of a half-value width and a radiating directivity characteristic of a side lobe level lower than that of the first traveling-wave array antenna. A transmitting signal is split into two signals, feeding the signals to the first and second traveling-wave array antennas, which are provided so that a variation of main-beam radiating angle of electromagnetic wave of transmitting signal radiated from the first traveling-wave array antenna corresponding to a frequency change, and that of the second traveling-wave array antenna are substantially canceled by each other.

A dielectric loaded antenna apparatus has a column-shaped loaded dielectric which is loaded on an end portion of a feeding line of the dielectric loaded antenna apparatus. The loaded dielectric has an inclined radiation surface which is inclined from a surface perpendicular to an axial direction of the loaded dielectric. A cross section of the loaded dielectric perpendicular to the axial direction of the loaded dielectric has a shape of one of a circle, ellipse and polygon. The feeding line is a waveguide which includes a radiation waveguide and a feeding waveguide. The radiation waveguide has an axis parallel to the axial direction of the loaded dielectric and includes an opening for feeding an electromagnetic wave to the loaded dielectric. The feeding waveguide feeds the electromagnetic wave to the radiation waveguide.

A compressor equipped with a compressing unit comprising a compressing section and a motor section which are connected to each other and Which are encased in a closed vessel, the compressing section including a crank shaft rotatable so that a piston reciprocates within a cylinder and the motor section comprising a rotor and stator and disposed at a lower side of the compressing section, the rotor being connected to the crank shaft so that the crank shaft is rotatable in response to driving of the motor section. Springs are provided between the compressing unit and the closed vessel so as to elastically support the compressing section and the motor section, and first and second balance weights are respectively provided on upper and lower portions of a rotor of the motor section. The first and second balance weights are determined on the basis of the resultant load to be applied to an eccentric portion of the crank shaft, a con'rod and the piston, the loads of the first and second balance weights and distances among the first and second balance weights and the eccentric portion of the crank shaft.

Hermetic compressor

A low noise, hermetic motor-driven compressor suitable for used in a refrigerator or an air-conditioner is disclosed in which a closed container has a spherical wall portion on which a combined motor-and-compressor assembly is supported via a suspension mechanism, and the suspension mechanism includes two snubber stays having spherical portions complementary in contour to the shape of the spherical wall portion of the closed container and welded to the spherical wall portion. The spherical wall portion increases the stiffness of the closed container, which stiffness is enhanced by the spherical portions of the snubber stays. The thus reinformed closed container is unlikely to vibrate in resonance with the vibration of the combined motor-and-compressor assembly. Thus, the hermetic motor-driven compressor is able to operate silently.
