An electromagnetic relay includes a first fixed terminal, a first fixed contact, a first movable contact, a case, a first inner wall, a first gas passage, and a first magnet. The case includes a first longitudinal inner side surface and a first lateral inner surface. The first lateral inner side surface includes a first central surface and a first arc contact surface. The first arc contact surface is located between the first central surface and the first longitudinal inner side surface in the lateral direction. The first gas passage includes a first inlet facing the first arc contact surface in the longitudinal direction. The first gas passage is disposed between the first inner wall and the first longitudinal inner side surface. The first magnet elongates an arc generated between the first fixed contact and the first movable contact toward the first arc contact surface.

Electromagnetic relay with re-arcing suppression

An electromagnetic relay includes a base, a contact block, an electromagnet block, a permanent magnet, and a rigid member. The base is insulating. The contact block is placed on the base. The electromagnet block is placed on the base at a space from the contact block. The permanent magnet generates a magnetic field in the contact block. The rigid member is made of a magnetic material having a higher rigidity than the base, is incorporated in the base, and suppresses a magnetic flux leakage of the permanent magnet.

The movable member is connected to the movable contact piece and includes a first overlapping portion made of an insulating material. The second space is partitioned from the first space. The first hole communicates the first space and the second space. The second hole communicates the second space with a space outside the second space. The arc extinguishing member releases an arc extinguishing gas into the first space. The second hole has a smaller opening area than the first hole.

The movable contact piece includes a first movable contact and a second movable contact. The first magnet extends an arc generated between the first fixed contact and the first movable contact in a second direction opposite to the first direction. The first fixed terminal includes a first end. The first end of the first fixed terminal includes a tapered portion inclined in the second direction from the first fixed contact toward the first magnet and that at least partially overlaps with the first magnet when viewed from a moving direction of the movable contact piece.
