The invention provides a defect inspecting apparatus and a defect detecting method for specifying a position of a defect before polarization when the defect is included in a coaxial flexible piezoelectric member. Further, when a piezoelectric tube is moved in polarization, a friction force is produced between the coaxial flexible piezoelectric member and a block-like conductor and therefore, a large force is needed in moving the piezoelectric tube. The invention provides a polarizing apparatus and a polarizing method capable of moving the piezoelectric tube even by a small force. There are provided a defect detecting apparatus of a coaxial flexible piezoelectric member having a constitution of applying a direct current to a coaxial flexible piezoelectric member while moving a piezoelectric tube arranged at a hole of inspecting electrode means and a marking apparatus for marking a defect portion. Thereby, when a defect is present at a portion thereof arranged at the hole of the inspecting electrode means, electricity is discharged at the defect portion and therefore, the defect portion can be specified and the mark can be attached to the defect portion. Further, a conductive block provided with a path portion of the piezoelectric tube is divided. By dividing the block-like conductor by a plural number, a friction force between the block-like conductor per divided one and the piezoelectric tube is reduced. Further, the piezoelectric tube can be moved by a small force by a pulley arranged at a fold back portion of the piezoelectric tube.

An object detecting device can prevent a seizure of an object between an opening and an opening-closing unit for opening and closing the opening. The object detecting device includes a pressure-sensitive sensor disposed at one of the opening and the opening-closing unit, and judging means for judging the contact of the object with the pressure-sensitive sensor on the basis of an output signal of the pressure-sensitive sensor. The pressure-sensitive sensor includes pressure-sensitive means for generating an output signal depending on deformation, and support means for supporting the pressure-sensitive means at the one of the opening and the opening-closing unit, the support means including a vibration damping portion for damping vibration propagated to the pressure-sensitive means.

Two kinds of pressure sensors using a piezoelectric composite comprising amorphous chlorinated polyethylene, crystalline chlorinated polyethylene and piezoelectric ceramic powder are disclosed. The first is a piezoelectric cable comprising an inner conductor of a metal helix, the volume within the metal helix is filled with fine insulating polymer fibers, a piezoelectric composite layer circumferentially surrounding the inner conductor, and an outer conductor of a metal film attached on a polymer membrane. The metal film is in contact with said composite layer but separated from the inner conductor and a protective jacket. The second type of pressure sensor is a planar sensor comprising a piezoelectric composite in a planar form sandwiched with conductors of two metal films attached on two polymer membranes, each metal film is in contact with the composite but separated from each other.

Piezoelectric pressure sensor

A pair of reference electrodes and a flame rod are placed in contact with charged particles in a flame produced by a burner. When a voltage is applied between the flame rod and the burner by a power source, a current (I.sub.fr) flows between them due to the flame conductivity. A potential difference (V.sub.12) between the pair of reference electrodes is detected by a potential difference detector. The dynamic flame impedance between the pair of reference electrodes is defined as the slope of the I.sub.fr -V.sub.12 relationship and is independent of I.sub.fr.

A thin-film thermistor element which has an electrically insulating substrate having first and second surfaces opposite to each other and also having a pair of through-holes defined therein so as to extend completely across the thickness thereof, and a pair of electrode films each including a body portion of large surface area and a generally comb-shaped portion continued outwardly from the body portion. The electrode films are formed by the use of a firing process on the first surface of the substrate with the respective comb-shaped portions thereof confronting with each other. An oxygen ion conductive solid-electrolyte plate (1) has first and second opposite surfaces. A plurality of negative electrodes (21b, 22b) and positive electrodes (21a, 22a) are formed on the first and second surfaces of the solid-electrolyte plate (1), respectively, and each of the plurality of negative electrodes (21b, 22b) is opposed to each of the plurality of positive electrodes (21a, 22a). A spacer (5 or 7) is hermetically secured to the first surface of the electrolyte plate (1) and at the same time surrounds each of the plurality of negative electrodes (21b, 22b). A sealing plate (3) is also hermetically secured to the spacer (5 or 7). A plurality of closed spaces (61, 62) are thus defined as spaces surrounded by the solid-electrolyte plate (1), spacer (5 or 7) and sealing plate (3). A plurality of windows (41, 42) are provided in the sealing plate. Each of the plurality of closed spaces (61, 62) embraces one negative electrode of the plurality of negative electrodes (21b, 22b) and one window of the plurality of windows (41, 42). Each of the plurality of closed spaces (61, 62) communicates with the external space through one of the plurality of windows (41, 42). Each of the plurality of windows (41, 42) allows oxygen molecules to diffusely flow from the environment into each of the plurality of closed spaces (61, 62) through each of the plurality of windows (41, 42).

A self-cleaning type cooking oven with a cooking chamber which has a function to pyrolytically eliminate food soils accumulated on walls of the cooking chamber. The cooking oven includes a heater for supplying heat into the cooking chamber so as to allow to pyrolytically degrade the food soils and an exhausting passage coupled to the cooking chamber to exhaust gases generated due to the pyrolytical degradation to an ambient atmosphere. In the exhausting passage is provided an oxidizing catalyst which oxidizes the gases introduced thereinto for exhausting and also provided a gas sensor to detect a gas component therearound. Also included in the cooking oven is a heat control unit electrically connected to the heater for controlling heat supply into the cooking chamber, the heat control unit being responsive to a gas signal therefrom to determine a heating time period for chamber cleaning. With the temperature of the cooking chamber being kept at a predetermined cleaning temperature, the heat control unit samples the gas signal at a given time interval to detect a variation of amount of the gas component and detect an inflection point from decreasing to increasing or vice versa in the gas-component variation to determine the heating time period in conjunction with the inflection point, the food soils being substantially degraded by heating during the heating time period.

An oxygen conductive solid electrolyte plate has first and second opposite surfaces, First and second electrodes fixedly extend on the first and second surfaces of the electrolyte plate respectively. A spacing frame hermetically secured to the first surface of the electrolyte plate surrounds the first electrode. The spacing frame has an opening. A sealing plate hermetically secured to the spacing frame defines a chamber in conjunction with the electrolyte plate and the spacing frame. The chamber accommodates the first electrode and opens into an environment only via a window defined by the opening in the spacing frame. The window allows oxygen molecules to flow from the environment into the chamber by diffusion.

An ultrasonic liquid ejecting unit comprises a piezoelectric transducer coated with a conductive film on each of its front and rear surfaces, a nozzle plate secured to the transducer to form a bimorph vibration system and a body having a liquid chamber defined by the nozzle plate in pressure transmitting relation with the liquid in the chamber.
