A residual fuel quantity measuring device for automobiles has a fuel flow rate sensor provided in a filler neck of a fuel tank for measuring the flow rate of liquid fuel supplied to a fuel tank. A computer computes the quantity of liquid fuel remaining in the fuel tank from a previously stored residual quantity of liquid fuel, the measured fuel flow rate, the injection rate of fuel from fuel injection valves, and the purge quantity of fuel evaporated in the fuel tank. A fuel meter visually displays the thus computed residual quantity of liquid fuel in the fuel tank.

Apparatus and method for measuring fuel flow rate and residual fuel quantity and for controlling evaporated fuel

A fuel supply device is composed of a rotary pump, a brush-less motor having a stator and a rotor connected to the rotary pump and a circuit unit for supplying drive current to the brush-less motor. The circuit unit has a plurality of one-chip IC units on which a plurality of switching transistors and a circuit for detecting position of the rotor are integrally formed. The stator has a plurality of phase coils each of which is connected to one of the switching transistors of each of the one-chip IC units to be supplied with divided portion of the drive current from one of the switching transistors. Each of the phase coils is divided to a plurality of parallel coils having the same phase and each of the parallel coils is connected to one of the switching transistors.

Fuel supply device

An antidissipation apparatus for evaporated fuel vapor for an internal combustion engine. A purge passage connects the intake manifold and the fuel tank. A canister is installed in the purge passage and adsorbs evaporated fuel vapor generated in the fuel tank. A purge pump is installed in the purge passage and delivers the adsorbed evaporated fuel vapor to the intake manifold. Since the purge pump is driven by at least a part of a fuel flow in the fuel passage, the purge pump can change its discharge amount of the adsorbed evaporated fuel vapor to the intake manifold according to an amount of the fuel flow in the fuel passage. Therefore, the evaporated fuel vapor which is adsorbed at the canister can be supplied (purged) to the intake manifold by the purge pump forcibly even if the engine is a lean-burn type which can not employ large negative pressure of the intake manifold.

Antidissipation apparatus for evaporated fuel vapor

A fuel pump is composed of a permanent-magnet motor section and a pump section. The yoke of the motor section is designed as a part of the magnetic circuit which is saturated with magnetic flux. The quantity of the discharged fuel is adjusted by covering from outside an auxiliary yoke which is changeable according to a difference between the actual quantity of the discharged fuel and a required quantity of the fuel.

Fuel pump and method of manufacturing the same

A liquid pump has a DC motor and a pump in a cylindrical casing. A pair of brushes are slidably contacted with a commutator of an armature while being biased by springs. The specific resistance of the positive brush is lower than the specific resistance of the negative brush to enable the voltage drop at the brushes to be decreased and motor efficiency to be increased without increasing commutator wearing speed. The biasing force provided by the spring biasing the positive brush is lower than the biasing force provided by the spring biasing the negative brush.

A fuel supply system for an engine having no fuel return pipe is disclosed. In steps target fuel is set according to an engine operating state. Thereafter, a target current value to be supplied to the motor of a fuel pump according to the target fuel pressure is obtained. In the succeeding step, an actual motor current is detected and, then, the target current value and the detcted current are compared. Thereafter, the supply current is controlled by feedback based upon the difference obtained by comparison between the target current value and the detected current value to eliminate the difference.

Fuel supply system for internal combustion engine and method of

A fuel pump for a vehicle includes a brushless motor for operating this fuel pump, and a control circuit for the brushless motor is contained in the fuel pump. Difficulties such as a cutting of the wiring due to an electrolytic corrosion of electrically-conductive portions, and a short-circuiting thereof, are prevented. A pump portion, a motor portion and a discharge portion are provided in a housing of the fuel pump. The motor portion includes a rotor and a stator portion. The stator portion is molded by a resin material into a cylindrical shape with a closed bottom. The stator portion supports a shaft of the rotor. Stator coils are molded in a peripheral wall portion of the stator portion, and a container containing the control circuit is molded in the bottom wall portion of the stator portion. The stator coils, copper wires extending therefrom, and terminals from the control circuit are completely molded in the above resin material. With this arrangement, the stator coils, the control circuit, and the electrically-conductive portions extending between the control circuit and the stator coils are not exposed to the fuel at all, and therefore the above difficulties are prevented.

Fuel supply device and method of assembling same

A pump apparatus comprises a pump housing, an impeller having a plurality of radial grooves rotatably disposed within the pump housing, first and second fluid passages each defined by the impeller and the pump housing at both sides of the impeller, a motor having an output shaft for driving the impeller, a first radial clearance between the impeller and the output shaft of the motor, and a second radial clearance between an outer peripheral surface of the impeller and the pump housing, which is smaller than the first clearance.

Pump apparatus

A fuel pump apparatus having two-stage pump sections and a vapor discharge port. A first impeller of a first stage pump section is attached to a vertically lower surface of a second impeller of a second stage pump section, the second impeller having a larger diameter than the first impeller. A vapor discharge port is formed in the second impeller at a radially inward portion thereof to open to a radially inwardly portion of a first pump passage. Fuel vapor is separated from liquid fuel at the first stage pump section and the liquid fuel is pressurized at the second stage pump section.

Fuel pump apparatus for internal combustion engine

A pump apparatus of a regenerative type having a vapor discharge port for avoiding a vapor lock. A portion of a circumferential fluid passage of a pump is enlarged within an angular range of 180.degree. measured from a suction port of the pump and the vapor discharge port is formed at a downstream end of such an enlarged fluid passage, so that fluid flow speed flowing through the enlarged fluid passage is relatively slow and vapored fluid can be effectively exhausted out of the fluid passage.
