Cold rolling method for a metal strip and a mill array

A variable-crown roll is disclosed, which comprises a curved arbor, and a plurality of antifriction bearings which are mounted on said arbor, said bearings being asymmetrically disposed with respect to the lengthwise center of said arbor, and bearings on one side of the lengthwise center of said arbor being symmetric with respect to said bearings on the other side of the lengthwise center.

Variable-crown roll

A variable-crown roll comprises a straight arbor, and a plurality of antifriction bearings which are mounted on the arbor, each of the bearings having a cylindrical outer surface which is sloped with respect to the outer surface of the arbor, the bearings being symmetrically disposed with respect to the lengthwise center of the arbor, the slopes of the outer surfaces of the bearings on one side of the lengthwise center of the arbor being symmetric with respect to the slopes of the outer surfaces of the bearings on the other side of the lengthwise center.

A tandem mill has a plurality of stands and has at each stand one mill suitably selected from a common four-high mill, a sleeve sliding mill, an intermediate back-up roll shifting mill, and a sleeve expanding mill.

Tandem mill

In a leveling line, the shape of a rolled material is corrected by applying a longitudinal tensile force to the material on the entrance or the exit side or both the sides of a roller leveler or within it, a warp of the material is corrected by applying a bending tension to the material within the roller leveler, and a camber of the material is corrected by applying a larger plastic elongation to either one of the widthwise edges of the material than to the other, on the entrance or the exit side or both the sides of the roller leveler or within it.

Method for correcting rolled material

A rolling mill having an upper set of rolls which has a work roll and a backup roll, and a lower set of rolls which has a work roll and a backup roll. Two parallel intermediate rolls are arranged between the work roll and the backup roll of either upper set or lower set or both sets, each of the intermediate rolls being supported by corresponding support rolls. The support rolls can be shifted toward and away from the corresponding intermediate rolls.

Rolling mill

A widthwise distribution of thickness of a metal strip is changed by passing the metal strip through a tool train including a plurality of tools disposed in zigzag and applying a bending under tension to the metal strip in the lengthwise direction thereof. A widthwise bending of the metal strip may be performed at the same time with said bending under tension, and a light reduction rolling of the metal strip may be performed before said bending under tension.

Wandering of a strip in a hot rolling line is prevented by the provision of a hot roller leveler and a side guide between a finishing mill and a coiler. At least one of the leveler rolls is made angularly adjustable in a horizontal plane and/or in a vertical plane with respect to the strip.
