A vehicle air bag apparatus includes an air bag disposed anterior to an occupant seat, a peripheral wall portion that surrounds the air bag from outside, and a lid upper wall portion that closes an upper surface opening in the peripheral wall portion, the air bag being inflated and deployed outward through the upper surface opening. The vehicle air bag apparatus includes a rib, disposed in a rear-side corner portion that assumes a portion at which an upper end portion of the peripheral wall portion is connected with the lid upper wall portion. The rib connects the upper end portion of the peripheral wall portion with the lid upper wall portion.

Vehicle air bag apparatus

An airbag device for straddle type vehicles is provided with: an airbag module in which a holding box that stores an airbag functions as a case; and an airbag control unit that controls said airbag module. The airbag module is provided with the holding box that is disposed immediately in front of a rider's seat, a lid that closes the opening of the holding box, and a hinge that functions as a rotary fulcrum for the lid when the airbag inflates, and that is positioned on the rear side, with respect to the vehicle, of the lid. A linking mechanism for restricting the opening angle of the lid is provided between the lid and the holding box.

Airbag device for straddle type vehicles

A motorcycle includes a head pipe, left and right main frames extending rearwardly from the head pipe on left and right sides, respectively, and a cowl stay extending forwardly from the left and right main frames and supporting a cowling, which protectively covers a front portion of the motorcycle. The cowl stay is positioned such that its front end portion is located rearwardly of a front end portion of a front wheel, and in front of a tip portion of a head light disposed on a front portion of the head pipe so as to illuminate an area in front of the motorcycle. The cowl stay is disposed at a position located above a center of gravity of the motorcycle.

A motorcycle includes main frames extending from a head pipe to rear left and right sides, a fuel tank provided between the main frames, seat frames extending rearwardly from the main frames; a seat supported by the seat frames; and an air bag module disposed at a position proximate to a front upper portion of the seat. The air bag module may be disposed in a recess formed on a rear upper portion of the fuel tank, and is mounted on stay members extending respectively upwardly from the left and right main frames.

Arrangement of an air bag module on a motorcycle, and motorcycle incorporating same

An air bag system is provided wherein a support belt for coupling an airbag to a vehicle body is accommodated in an accommodation part provided in the vehicle body. A belt cover is engaged from above so as to cover the accommodation part. The belt cover is configured to be removed from the accommodation part along with swelling and expansion of the airbag. A wire is coupled to the vehicle body inside the accommodation part so as not to be moved apart from the vehicle body over a predetermined length at the time of removing. The wire is arranged inside the accommodation part, and is coupled to a fixation plate to be connected to a frame of the vehicle body. By inserting the wire into through-holes of the fixation plate, the wire is coupled to the vehicle body, and both ends thereof are connected to the belt cover.

Airbag system for motorcycle

An airbag is provided with first and second tethers and attached to the inner surface of the ceiling. The first tether extends towards the left side of the back face side from the center portion of the front face side facing a rider. The second tether extends towards the right side of the back face side from the center portion of the front face side. The first and second tethers are arranged into a substantially V-shape with the bottom on the rider's side. When the airbag is compressed in the back and forth direction by receiving a forward momentum of the rider, the expansion of the airbag is regulated by the first and second tethers on the front face side. The expansion in the right and left direction is not regulated by the first and second tethers on the back face side of the airbag. Accordingly, the airbag expands in the right and left direction on the back face side so as to have a wide width.

An air bag module cover structure is applied to a substantially rectangular parallelepiped-shaped air bag module. The three side surfaces of the air bag module that do not face the vehicle front side are provided with tear lines at upper portions thereof.

Air bag module cover structure

An airbag system includes belt support members for housing support belts used for coupling an airbag to a vehicle body, and belt covers disposed over the belt support members. A central cover panel on the vehicle body is adjacent to an airbag module in which an airbag is accommodated. Left and right cover panels are engaged with, and disposed laterally outside of the central cover panel in the vehicle-width direction. The belt support members are configured by overhanging parts of the central cover panel, which are overhung laterally outside, and extension parts of the cover panels and which extend laterally inside; and both of these components are engaged with each other through engaging portions in the belt support members. Notches are provided in the extension parts, extending in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle body outside in the vehicle-width direction relative to the engaging portions.

Airbag system for a motorcycle, and motorcycle incorporating same

An airbag apparatus is provided in which constraint of a rider in case of front collision is achieved. In one form, an airbag apparatus to be mounted to a motorcycle includes an airbag which is deployed and inflated in case of front collision of a vehicle. The airbag forms a constraining surface for constraining a rider when deployed and inflated, and is configured to be deployed and inflated while extending the constraining surface along the direction connecting the abdominal portion and the chest portion of the rider when constraining the rider.

Airbag apparatus, saddle-type vehicle with airbag apparatus

A motorcycle airbag module includes an inflatable airbag, which is deployed between the rider's seat and the steering handlebar of a motorcycle. First and second recessed portions are formed in the front face of the airbag, when in an inflated and deployed state. The first recessed portion extends in a longitudinal direction in the center part of the front face and the second recessed portion diverges and extends respectively to the right and left from the lower end of the first recessed portion arranged in the longitudinal direction. The front face of the airbag is sectioned by the first and second recessed portions to form right and left inflated portions as well as a lower inflated portion. The right and left inflated portions are positioned respectively on the right and left sides of the first recessed portion, and the lower inflated portion is positioned below the second recessed portions.

Motorcycle airbag module

To suppress the transmission of vibrations from a vehicle body and an engine to an inflator in an air bag system. Rubber mounts are fitted to a retainer box for accommodating an air bag. A flange of an inflator is placed on the rubber mounts, and bolts are inserted through set plates for connecting the air bag to the inflator and through the flange. The bolts are further inserted through the rubber mounts and nuts are tightened to the bolts.

Air bag system

In a compact vehicle in which a vehicular component engaged with an inflated and extended air bag is arranged in the inflated and extended range of the air bag that can constrain a rider on a seat provided to the rear of a body frame from a forward direction, even if there is the vehicular component engaged with the air bag in an inflated and extended state, space for the air bag to be fully inflated and extended is secured and in addition, the inflated and extended air bag is securely supported. A vehicular component can be turned between an inactuated position in which an air bag is folded and an actuated position in which the vehicular component is displaced from the inactuated position, being engaged with and supporting a part of the inflated and extended air bag and is supported by fixed supporting means.

Compact vehicle

To provide an air bag apparatus for a small size vehicle, wherein a seat for a driver is provided at a rear portion of a vehicle body and an instrument panel, which a driver on the seat can visually observe is provided at a front portion of the vehicle body. The air bag apparatus assures a wide range of inflation and expansion of an air bag and can be applied to a conventional small size vehicle without a significant design change. A plurality of air bags which can constrain a driver on a seat from a forward direction are connected to each other by a connection mechanism and are accommodated in a folded state in an instrument panel.

Air bag apparatus for a small size vehicle

An inflator unit provided on a main frame of a motorcycle is provided with an inflator case having an inflator stored therein. Gas generated by the inflator flows through the interior of the main frame and is supplied to the airbag. The inflator case includes the left and right case halves divided along the parting plane and joined with each other by two bolts and the internal space thereof narrows towards an exit opening in the funnel shape. The axis Li of the inflator is shifted to the side opposite from the exit opening with respect to the axis Lc of the inflator case. A main frame may be formed with an atmosphere communication hole for communicating the interior of the main frame with the atmosphere at the position near the inflator case so that the atmosphere is introduced through the atmosphere communication port into the interior of the main frame by the negative pressure generated when gas flows from the inflator to the airbag. Thus, a large-volume airbag can be deployed by a small-capacity inflator.

Airbag system

To effectively restrain a rider on a seat provided at a rear portion of a vehicle body with an inflated air bag in a scooter type vehicle having a footrest for supporting the feet of the rider. An air bag that can be inflated so as to restrain a rider on a seat from the front side of the rider is accommodated in a folded condition inside a front end portion of the seat.
