A wireless access system includes: a first communication system that performs communications by a first communication scheme; a second communication system that performs communications by a second communication scheme different from the first communication scheme; and a communication terminal capable of communicating with both the first communication system and the second communication system. A base station of the first communication system transmits, to the communication terminal, a threshold value in accordance with an elapsed time is measured from a first point in time at which the communication terminal previously enters a second communication area that is an area of the second communication system to a second point in time at which the communication terminal previously exits from the second communication area to a first communication area that is an area of the first communication system.

A base station includes a receiving unit, a determining unit, a control unit, and a transmitting unit. The receiving unit receives a connection request signal when the base station is in a power-saving state. The determining unit, when the receiving unit receives the connection request signal, determines whether a priority of the base station is higher than a priority of a different base station that belongs to a same group as the base station. The control unit, when the determining unit determines that the priority of the base station is higher than the priority of the different base station, causes the base station to return from the power-saving state to a normal state. The transmitting unit wirelessly transmits a notification signal after the base station is returned to the normal state by the control unit.

When receiving an extension connection request from a first mobile terminal, a first route selection device selects a first extension connection route from among a plurality of extension connection routes and transmits the type of the first extension connection route and calling-side address information used on the first extension connection route to a second route selection device. The second route selection device selects a second extension connection route from among the plurality of extension connection routes and transmits the type of the second extension connection route and called-side address information used on the second extension connection route to the first route selection device. If the second extension connection route coincides with the first extension connection route, an extension connection is established between the first mobile terminal and the second mobile terminal via the first extension connection route.

A base station includes at least one first application section, a determining section, and a controlling section. Each of the first application sections executes one of a plurality of first application programs corresponding to one of a plurality of first application services utilizing a first wireless communication service provided by a mobile virtual network operator. The determining section receives a connection request to connect to the first application service from a first terminal for using the first wireless communication service, and determines the first application section corresponding to the first application service specified in the connection request. A zone selection method for a mobile radio communication system selects one among many radio zones and switches a primary radio zone where a given mobile terminal exists to the selected radio zone without concentrating incoming and outgoing calls at a specific radio zone. The method prioritizes the radio zones according to the reception levels of signals transmitted from the radio zones and received by the mobile terminal as well as the performance of the radio zones including the call connection ratios and channel usage ratios of the radio zones, and then, the method selects the one having the highest priority among the prioritized radio zones.

A mobile communication system intended to control switching of a voice channel (handover) when a radio zone boundary is traversed; to quickly detect an unlawful mobile station; to equalize load if processing at a base control station is congested; and to constitute a location area for reducing control channel load due to simultaneous paging. The number of radio zones constituting the location area is, in real time, changed to correspond to the state of load for the call process to share load with the adjacent location area.
