Coating composition and process for the production of coated metal

A method of coating a metal article by forming a first electrodeposition coating layer having varistor properties on a metal article by an electrodeposition coating method by use of an electrodeposition coating film-forming composition containing from 7 to 50 parts by weight of an electrically semiconductive substance per 100 parts by weight of the solid content of the composition, and then forming a second electrodeposition coating layer on said first electrodeposition coating layer by an electrodeposition coating method by use of an anionic or cationic electrodeposition paint while applying a voltage exceeding the varistor voltage. The coating composition thus-produced has excellent varistor properties with superior corrosion resistance.

Electrodeposition coating composition and method

A shaped or unshaped article of a non-ferrous metal sheet preferably aluminum having an organic, surface coating film containing conductive and/or semiconductive fine particles, preferably molybdenum dissulfide is integrally bonded with a shaped or unshaped article of a steel sheet having or not having an organic, surface coating film; and this integrated body is subjected simultaneously to electrodeposition coating. The non-ferrous metal sheet having an organic, surface coating film containing conductive and/or semiconductive, fine particles shows excellent electrodeposition coating characteristics which can be easily regulated. Hence, integral coating after bounding with a steel sheet gives the same degree of film thickness and surface smoothness on both of the non-ferrous metal and steel sheets. This method is particularly suitable for the coating of automobile bodies integrally composed of non-ferrous metal and steel sheets ensuring energy- and labor-saving and giving final products of uniform finish.

A powder coating composition is disclosed for producing a specific or special pattern finish on the surface of a substrate. The composition of the invention is obtained by kneading together a mixture containing principally a thermosetting polyester resin and a minor amount of a thermoplastic cellulose ester resin powder under such temperature conditions that the polyester resin is melted but the cellulose ester resin is not melted.
