Fixed-type constant velocity universal joint

A fixed type constant velocity universal joint includes an outer joint member having an inner spherical surface in which a plurality of track grooves extending in an axial direction are formed; an inner joint member having an outer spherical surface in which a plurality of track grooves extending in the axial direction while paired with the track grooves of the outer joint member are formed. A plurality of balls are interposed between the track grooves of each of the outer joint member and the inner joint member, for transmitting a torque, and a cage is interposed between the inner spherical surface of the outer joint member and the outer spherical surface of the inner joint member, for holding the balls. The outer joint member and the inner joint member each have a center curvature of the track grooves being offset from each other in a direction opposite to the axial direction by an equal distance with respect to a joint center, in which: a PCD gap (2&#xd7;m) in a ball track formed between the track grooves of each of the outer joint member and the inner joint member is set to equal to or larger than 25 &#x3bc;m.

A double offset type constant velocity universal joint for use in a power transmission system of an automobile comprises an inner member, an outer member, and a plurality of balls for transmitting torque between the Inner and outer members, the balls being retained by means of a cage also interposed between the inner and outer members, the cage being so designed as to allow the inner and outer members to move axially relatively to each other by an effective amount to absorb not only slight vibrations of an engine but also a greater movement of the engine caused by starting acceleration of the automobile.

A slide type homokinetic universal joint which assures low slide resistance. A guide block is supported on each trunnion so as to be axially slidable with respect to the trunnion and so as for the trunnion to be pivotable with respect to the guide block. A ball circulation groove including a pair of straight paths is formed in each side of the guide block. Each track groove formed in the outer ring has flat sides. An arcuate ball rolling surface is formed at the outer-diameter side of each flat side of the track groove so as to smoothly connect with the flat side, so that the balls can smoothly circulate in the ball circulation groove.

A tripod member having three trunnions is inserted in an outer ring. A guide block is supported on each of the trunnions so as to be pivotable around the trunnion and is formed with a ball circulation groove at each side thereof. A plurality of balls are accommodated in the ball circulation groove so that part of the balls will protrude diametrically outwards from the ball circulation groove. The outer ring is formed in its inner surface with raceway grooves for guiding the balls in an axial direction. An arcuate ball rolling surface and a ball guide surface are formed at both sides of each raceway groove to guide the balls and prevent them from dropping out, respectively.

An outer ring for a vibration proof homokinetic joint has inner and outer casings. Vibration proof members made of an elastic material are disposed between the inner and outer casings. The outer casing is formed on an inner peripheral surface thereof with protrusions angularly spaced therebetween. The inner casing is formed on an outer peripheral surface thereof with grooves angularly spaced therebetween to receive the protrusions therein with predetermined gaps formed therebetween and extending in the direction of rotation of the joint. The vibration proof members are mounted between the adjacent protrusions and between the inner peripheral surface of the outer casing and the outer peripheral surface of the inner casing.
