A position detection sensor allows for providing, on a back side of the position detection sensor, a component that needs to be accessed from a front side thereof. The position detection sensor includes a plurality of position detection electrodes arranged on an insulating substrate, wherein a region provided with the plurality of position detection electrodes forms an effective detection region for detecting an indicated position of a position indicator. A through hole in a predetermined shape is formed in the insulating substrate in the effective detection region. The position detection electrodes are arranged to bypass the through hole along the shape of the through hole at an area intersecting the through hole.

A foldable position detection sensor operable by electromagnetic induction coupling is configured to alleviate the problem of the levels of electromagnetic coupling with an electronic pen locally changing at a bending portion of the sensor. The position detection sensor includes a digitizer that includes an electrode configured to couple with a position indicator by electromagnetic induction coupling. The position detection sensor includes multiple electromagnetic sheets disposed to cover a surface of the digitizer opposite to an input surface thereof for receiving input form the position indicator. The multiple electromagnetic sheets are spaced apart from one another along the surface of the digitizer at a bending location where the digitizer is bent. The electromagnetic sheets are configured such that when the digitizer is in an unfolded state the electromagnetic sheets overlap with one another at the bending location in a direction perpendicular to the input surface of the digitizer.

Apparatus and method are provided that are capable of controlling a display in response to reliable detection of a sliding movement operation of a pointer (e.g., a user's finger) that passes through an end of a display region. The apparatus and method utilize a position detection sensor, which is superposed on the display and configured to detect the pointer's position discretely and successively at a predetermined time interval. Based on a first position detected by the position detection sensor and a second position detected, at the predetermined time interval since the detection of the first position, by the position detection sensor, which together indicate a moving operation of the pointer, it is determined whether the moving operation of the pointer has crossed an end of the display region. If it is so determined, a passed end position of the display region is calculated based on the first and second positions.

A position detection device includes a main body with a housing that encloses an electronic pen while the electronic pen is accommodated in an accommodation portion included in the housing, and a planar coil having a rectangular cross-sectional area and disposed adjacent to the accommodation portion at a position at which a direction perpendicular to the rectangular cross-sectional area of the planar coil crosses an axial direction of the electronic pen while the electronic pen is accommodated in the accommodation portion.

A position detection device includes an accommodation portion, a planar coil, a first control circuit, and a first detection circuit. The accommodation portion accommodates therein an electronic pen having a position indication coil wound in an axial direction of the electronic pen. The planar coil is disposed adjacent to the accommodation portion at a position at which a center axis direction of the planar coil crosses the axial direction of the electronic pen while the electronic pen is accommodated in the accommodation portion. The first control circuit performs control such that supply of a signal to the planar coil and reception of a signal through the planar coil by electromagnetic induction are performed alternately. The first detection circuit detects a state regarding accommodation of the electronic pen in the accommodation portion in accordance with a presence or an absence of a signal received through the planar coil.

A position detection sensor configured to be used with a display device having a display screen with a curved portion included on an outer edge thereof. The position detection sensor includes a plurality of electrodes arranged in a detection area and configured to detect a position on the display screen pointed to by a pointer. One or more of the electrodes as arranged in the detection area conform to the curved portion of the display screen in a partly-curved contour region of the detection area corresponding to a predetermined region of the display device that includes the curved portion of the display screen. Electronic apparatus and method for controlling display screen of electronic apparatus

An inputting apparatus of the electromagnetic induction type may provide a transmission signal of a sufficient signal level to a position indicator. A process controlling unit controls a selection circuit on the basis of a reception state of a reception signal received by each of a plurality of electrodes and detected by a reception signal processing circuit such that a first signal for transmitting a transmission signal is supplied to a first electrode at which the reception signal indicates the highest signal level. Further, the process controlling unit controls the selection circuit such that a second signal is supplied to a second electrode at which the signal level of the reception signal is lower than a predetermined signal level. Consequently, signals can be transmitted to a position indicator from both the first electrode, which most receives the signal from the position indicator, and the second electrode spaced from the first electrode.

A position detecting device includes two different types of sensors. A position indicator includes resonant circuits that enable detection of the position indicator by a first sensor both when a first end of a chassis of the position indicator is oriented toward the position detecting device and when a second end of the chassis is oriented toward the position detecting device. The position indicator also includes a conductive cap that is provided at the second end of the chassis and that enables detection of the position indicator by a second sensor when the second end is brought close to the position detecting device. A control circuit included in the position detecting device changes processing according to when the control circuit is receiving only one of an output signal from a detection circuit coupled to the first sensor and an output signal from a detection circuit coupled to the second sensor and when the control circuit is receiving the output signals from both detection circuits.
