In a projection image displaying device which projects imaging light emitted from a projection lens by being reflected by a projection mirror, an air inlet for sucking external air is provided at the position of a sealing mechanism of the projection mirror. Air blown off through openings provided around the projection lens is sucked into a case through this air inlet. When a cooling operation of cooling components within the case is to be performed by sealing the projection mirror, a sucking operation through the air inlet is stopped. This prevents dust in the external air from adhering to a reflective surface of the projection mirror regardless of the installation state of the projection image displaying device.

A projection type display apparatus in accordance with the present invention is provided with a lamp unit including a light source, a cooling fan cooling the light source, and a cooling wind guide tube guiding a cooling wind generated by the cooling fan to the lamp unit, and the cooling wind guide tube is structured such as to have a movable type rectification plate which is movable by its own weight, and cools the light source without being affected by an installed direction of the projection type display apparatus.

Projection type display apparatus

A projection display device includes: a dustproof filter that removes dust and a foreign material from drawn air; an air guide path that guides, to a liquid crystal panel, the cooling air blown by a suction fan; an air velocity detector that is arranged in the air guide path and detects the velocity of the cooling air that flows in the air guide path; and a CPU that determines, on the basis of the value detected by the air velocity detector, whether or not the dustproof filter is clogged. The air velocity detector detects the velocity of the cooling air by measuring the temperature of the air in the vicinity of the heat generating element that will be increased due to heat transfer generated by the heat generating element. This configuration improves accuracy in determining whether or not the dustproof filter is clogged.

Projection display device

A projection type image display unit has a housing on which a light source and an image display part for transmission or reflection of light from the light source are mounted. The unit includes a position adjusting device, by which a displayed position of an image is adjusted. The position adjusting device comprises: a manipulation member being vertically movable with a part thereof projecting from a side of the housing; a leg member projecting from a bottom of the housing and adapted to freely vary an amount of the projection thereof; and a connecting member connecting the manipulation member with the leg member to set the amount of the projection of the leg member by manipulating the manipulation member in a vertical direction. The connecting member comprises a lever member so that a movement direction of the manipulation member becomes the same as a movement direction of the housing and a movement amount of the manipulation member substantially becomes the same as a movement amount of the housing.

Leg length adjusting mechanism for a projection type image display unit

Reduction of noise is achieved by devising an arrangement of heat generating parts such as a light valve element, an electric power source, a light source, etc. and an arrangement of cooling fans. In cooling the light source, the electric power source and liquid crystal panels, a cooling wind path for the liquid crystal panels and the electric power source is made separate from and independent of a cooling wind path for the light source that generates much heat, a cooling air volume is optimized for the respective cooling wind paths, and noise accompanying the rotation of the cooling fans is reduced. Also, by arranging the cooling fans substantially centrally of the respective cooling wind paths, that volume of noise, which leaks from air intake ports and air exhaust port that are opened to a housing of a unit, is reduced.

Projection type display unit

A simple cooling construction capable of achieving two functions at a time is to be provided, one function being cooling a lamp as a lighting means and the other function being preventing the scatter of broken pieces of the lamp upon burst of the lamp. An image display device such as an LCD projector has been configured such that cooling air is introduced into the interior of a reflector to cool an lamp means. In this connection, the present invention adopts a net of an expanded metal structure which serves as both means for preventing the scatter of broken pieces of a lamp upon burst of the lamp and an air deflecting plate facing a portion to be cooled. The above two functions can be attained simultaneously by such a simple construction.

Image display device

A liquid crystal projector comprises an equipment body containing projection device and cooling device and including an air intake port and an air exhaust port, a case for housing the equipment body, and a sliding device for sliding the case so as to take a first state in which the equipment body is pulled out of the case and a second state in which the equipment body is housed in the case. The air intake port and the air exhaust port are closed at the first state and are opened outside at the second state.
