Valve operating apparatus in internal combustion engine

In an internal combustion engine comprising a valve operating system connected to a pair of intake valves and arranged to open one of the intake valves only in a very small amount such that the one intake valve is brought into its substantially inoperative state, in a suction stroke mainly in a low speed rotation region of the engine, a fuel injection valve capable of injecting fuel toward a pair of intake ports independently corresponding to the intake valves, and a control means for controlling the operation of the fuel injection valve, the control means is arranged to control the fuel injection valve with a fuel injection completion time determined within a suction stroke, when the one intake valve is in the substantially inoperative state. This ensures that when the one intake valves has been brought into its substantially inoperative state, the injection of fuel by the fuel injection valve can be completed in the suction stroke, so that the injected fuel can be sequentially introduced into a combustion chamber in a condition of the other intake valve being open, thereby achieving an axially stratified air charge to provide an improved combustibility.

Internal combustion engine

A SOHC type internal combustion engine includes a pair of intake valves and a pair of exhaust valves. The intake valve driving means comprises a plurality of rocker arms disposed adjacent one another, including a pair of driving rocker arms operatively connected separately to the intake valves and a connection switchover mechanism capable of switching-over the connection and disconnection of the adjacent rocker arms in accordance with the operational condition of the engine. The exhaust valve driving means comprises a pair of exhaust valve-side rocker arms operatively connected separately to the exhaust valves and disposed on opposite sides of the intake valve driving means in positions opposed to said cam shaft, respectively. In the intake valve driving means, the opening and closing mode of the intake valves can be changed in accordance with the operational condition of the engine by operation of the connection switchover mechanism, thereby providing an improvement in output from the engine. The intake valve driving means is constructed compactly by disposition of the plurality of rocker arms constituting the intake valve driving means adjacent one another in the positions opposed to the cam shaft, thereby enabling an effective and compact construction of the connection switchover mechanism provided in the intake valve driving means.

SOHC type internal combustion engine

An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder block having a cylinder bore, a cylinder head having a combustion chamber communicating with the cylinder bore, a spark plug supported in the cylinder head and having electrodes disposed in the combustion chamber, two first valves supported on the cylinder head and having valve heads disposed in one side of the combustion chamber, and two second valves supported on the cylinder head and having valve heads disposed in an opposite side of the combustion chamber. A valve operating mechanism associated with the internal combustion engine comprises a camshaft rotatably mounted on the cylinder head and engaging the first valves for operating the first valves, a rocker arm holder mounted on the cylinder head, a rocker arm shaft or shafts disposed between the camshaft and the second valves and rotatably supported by the rocker arm holder, and two rocker arms swingably mounted on the rocker arm shaft or shafts and held in engagement with the camshaft and the second valves for operating the second valves. The rocker arm holder is disposed above the cylinder bore in substantial central alignment therewith, the rocker arm holder having a plug insertion hole for insertion of the spark plug therethrough.

Valve operating mechanism for internal combustion engine with a spark

An internal combustion engine includes a cylinder block having a cylinder bore, a cylinder head having a combustion chamber communicating with the cylinder bore, a spark plug supported in the cylinder head and having electrodes disposed in the combustion chamber, two first valves supported on the cylinder head and having valve head disposed in one side of the combustion chamber, and two second valves supported on the cylinder head and having valve heads disposed in an opposite side of the combustion chamber. A valve operating mechanism associated with the internal combustion engine comprises a camshaft rotatably mounted on the cylinder head and engaging the first valves for operating the first valves, a rocker arm holder mounted on the cylinder head, a rocker arm shaft or shafts disposed between the camshaft and the second valves and rotatably supported by the rocker arm holder, and two rocker arms swingably mounted on the rocker arm shaft or shafts and held in engagement with the camshaft and the second valves for operating the second valves. The rocker arm holder is disposed above the cylinder bore in substantial central alignment therewith, the rocker arm holder having a plug insertion hole for insertion of the spark plug therethrough.

Valve operating mechanism for internal combustion engine

An SOHC type internal combustion engine wherein in a wall portion projectingly formed on a cylinder head and supporting a cam shaft is provided a bearing hole which supports a journal of the cam shaft having a larger diameter than the rotational path of the tip of a cam lobe, and an ignition plug insertion hole is provided continuous to an ignition plug mounting hole which is provided in the cylinder head and opens into the combustion chamber and wherein a protecting cylinder provided with the ignition plug insertion hole is integrally formed with the cam shaft receiving wall.

An OHC type internal combustion engine with four valves per cylinder in which a single cam shaft extending longitudinally is engaged by individual rocker arms for each valve for pivoting those rocker arms to actuate the valves. The pairs of exhaust valves on one side of the engine are actuated by rocker arms mounted on a continuous rocker arm shaft. The intake valve rocker arms are mounted on a plurality of short shafts supported by their ends. A cam shaft holder is positioned over each cylinder and they serve to rotatably support the cam shaft, support the continuous rocker arm shaft, support the ends of the plural rocker arm short shafts, and to permit access to the spark plug for that cylinder. The spark plug has its electrodes located at the center of the combustion chamber and is inclined outwardly for access from between the intake valve rocker arms for that cylinder.

Overhead cam type four-valve actuating apparatus for internal combustion

In a valve actuating device of four-cycle internal combustion engine, a valve actuating cam shaft for driving an opening and closing valve via a rocker arm is carried on a cam holder block, an adjusting bolt is held on the cam holder block so as to be adjustable relative to its position to the latter and the rocker arm is supported on a pivot portion integral with the adjusting bolt for rocking motion. Valve clearance between the rocker arm and the opening and closing valve is adjusted by displacing the position of adjusting bolt relative to the cam holder block.

Valve actuating device of four-cycle internal combustion engine

An SOHC type internal combustion engine having a cam shaft for opening and closing intake and exhaust valves via rocker arms, the cam shaft being held between a cam shaft receiving wall of a cylinder head and a cam shaft holder which is secured to the cam shaft receiving wall, wherein a hole for allowing insertion of an ignition plug into a plug mounting hole is formed in the cam shaft receiving wall and opens to the surface of the wall against which a cam shaft holder abuts, and a hole for guiding a high power cord for an ignition plug is formed between the mutually abutting surfaces of the cam shaft receiving wall and the cam shaft holder.
