A slide fastener is disclosed which comprises a pair of stringer tapes each having molded thereon a row of coupling elements. The elements is formed from a thermoplastic resin composition containing 0.01-10 weight % of an organopolysiloxane. The resin composition facilitates separation of the stringers from the mold and movement of a slider on the fastener.

A water resistant epoxy resin composition is disclosed, said composition comprising an epoxy resin, a compound having at least two phenolic hydroxyl groups sufficient to cure the epoxy resin component, an aromatic nitrogen-containing silane coupling agent and an inorganic filler. A method for purifying impure hexamethyldisiloxane comprising as a major portion hexamethyldisiloxane and as a minor portion a mixture of low-boiling organic solvents, other organosilicon compounds, and odor-producing materials is described. The method comprises (A) first, treating the impure hexamethyldisiloxane with a condensation catalyst to convert the organosilicon compounds to additional hexamethyldisiloxane; (B) second, washing the treated impure hexamethyldisiloxane with water; (C) third, separating a water phase from the washed impure hexamethyldisiloxane; (D) fourth, distilling the washed impure hexamethyldisiloxane to yield hexamethyldisiloxane of enhanced purity; (E) fifth, contacting the hexamethyldisiloxane of enhanced purity with acid clay at a temperature of greater than about 50.degree. C.; and (F) finally, contacting the acid clay treated hexamethyldisiloxane of enhanced purity treated in (E) with activated carbon to yield hexamethyldisiloxane with enhanced purity and minimal unpleasant odor.

Method for purifying hexamethyldisiloxane

A process having the characteristic that a silicon compound having at least one hydrogen atom directly bonded to silicon in each molecule is addition reacted with an organic compound having at least one aliphatic double bond in each molecule in the presence of a platinum catalyst and an amide compound with the formula, RCONR.sup.1 R.sup.2. The presence of the amide maximizes the yield of the desired beta-adduct and minimizes the yield of the alpha-adduct.

A method for purifying alkoxysilane with the general formula, R.sub.m Si(OR.sup.1).sub.4-m. The method significantly lowers the level of non-hydrolyzable chlorine-based impurities, as well as the level of hydrolyzable chlorine-based impurities. The method comprises: (i) heating the alkoxysilane in the presence of a treating agent selected from a group which consists of acid clays and metal halides; (ii) contacting the alkoxysilane with a neutralization agent; and (iii) separating the alkoxysilane from the unused neutralization agent and by-products of neutralization.

A composition which is useful for preparing a magnetic recording medium is prepared by homogeneously mixing components comprising a magnetic powder, a resin binder and a partial hydrolyzate of an organosilicon compound which contains at least two silicon-bonded hydrolyzable groups and at least one carbon-bonded amino group. When conventionally applied to a substrate to provide the magnetic recording media, the compositions of this invention provide a magnetic layer which is more durably attached to the substrate. One package compositions of organopolysiloxane containing alkenyl radicals, organohydrogenpolysiloxane and a catalyst for the addition reaction can be prepared by using microcapsules which contain the organohydrogenpolysiloxane. The microcapsules have nonpermeable films which keep the organohydrogenpolysiloxane separated from the other reactive components. When the microcapsules are ruptured, the composition cures.
