A video display device includes: a video receiver that receives video data including a video and dynamic luminance characteristics indicating a time-dependent change in luminance characteristics of the video; a tone mapping processor that, in the case where a luminance region having a luminance less than or equal to a first luminance is defined as a low luminance region, and a luminance region having a luminance exceeding the first luminance is defined as a high luminance region, (i) performs first tone mapping using first conversion characteristics when first luminance characteristics exceed a predetermined threshold value, and (ii) performs second tone mapping using second conversion characteristics when the first luminance characteristics are less than or equal to the predetermined threshold value.

A video display apparatus includes: a tone mapping processor that performs a tone mapping process of converting a luminance of a video by using conversion characteristics according to a maximum luminance of the video; and a display that displays the video that has undergone the tone mapping process. The tone mapping processor switches between a first tone mapping process of dynamically changing the conversion characteristics according to a time-dependent change in the maximum luminance of the video and a second tone mapping process that is performed using constant conversion characteristics irrespective of the time-dependent change in the maximum luminance of the video.

The tone mapping processor switches between a first tone mapping process of dynamically changing the conversion characteristics according to a time-depend change in the maximum luminance of the video and a second tone mapping process that is performed using constant conversion characteristics irrespective of the time-depend change in the maximum luminance of the video. There is provided a reproduction device that outputs a video signal to a display device via predetermined communication, the video signal including a video having pictures and corresponding pieces of image characteristic information. The reproduction device includes: an obtaining unit that obtains a first time difference between a timing at which the display device displays one picture among the pictures and a timing used by the display device to display one of the pieces of image characteristic information corresponding to the one picture; an adjuster that adjusts at least one of a timing at which the pictures are outputted and a timing at which the pieces of image characteristic information are outputted to reduce the first time difference; and an output unit that outputs the pictures and the pieces of image characteristic information via the predetermined communication at the time adjusted by the adjuster.

A luminance characteristics generation method includes: determining, for each of frames included in a video, a value as first luminance characteristics, the value being obtained by dividing the number of pixels having luminances less than or equal to a first luminance among all pixels included in the frame by the number of all the pixels included in the frame; and outputting the first luminance characteristics determined in the determining of the value.

A non-metallic coreless twist-tie is formed by melting polymeric material, extruding the material in an elongated form, cooling the material, then drawing the material at a rate of more than about 2.5 times. The tie can include glass beads. The polymer is preferably formed from polymeric resin having a degree of crystallization of about 10% to 60% at a crystallized temperature range of about 100.degree. C. to 250.degree. C. and can also include a quantity of fine glass beads. The resulting tie can be twisted and untwisted many times without breakage, is suitable for use in microwave ovens and is simpler to construct than multicomponent ties.

The tie can include glass beads. The polymer is preferably formed from polymeric resin having a degree of crystallization of about 10% to 60% at a crystallized temperature range of about 100.degree.
