A device for providing a line of illumination in an optical reader, comprises an internally reflecting body having an elliptical reflecting surface joined to a part-cylindrical reflecting surface. A light source is disposed on one focal line of the elliptical surface, and a plate-like light guide has its light-receiving end disposed on the other focal line of the elliptical surface. One of the two focal lines of the elliptical surface is also the center of curvature of the part-cylindrical surface. The internal reflection and re-reflection of the light in the light guide ensures that the line of light emerging from the exit end of the light guide will be of uniform intensity throughout its length.

Device for producing a line of illumination

A color separation optical system consisting of prism blocks is provided with a bias light source and a bias light guide-in device. The bias light guide-in device consists of a plane parallel plate located with an air gap in front of an entrance face of the color separation optical system. The plane parallel plate has light reflecting surfaces to reflect the bias light toward the entrance face. The light reflecting surfaces are provided at the periphery of the plane parallel plate and are desirably made into light diffusing faces.

Color separation optical system for color television camera

In a color separation prism system for a color television camera, a bias light source is located at a position substantially displaced from one or the other of the two intersections of (i) a plane including the optical axis of the taking lens of the camera and perpendicular to the plane including the optical axes of the three color light beams incident to the pick up tubes and (ii) the two parallel edges of a prism block formed by the entrance face thereof to which the light from the taking lens of the camera is incident and the upper and lower parallel faces of the prism block parallel to the plane including the optical axes of the three color light beams. The color separation prism system is particularly suitable for use in a system in which the refractive index of the glass constituting the prism blocks is as high as 1.7.

Color separation prism system for color television camera

Means is provided for selectively inserting any one of one or more glass elements having parallel flat sides between the color separating prism and the objective of a television camera so as to adjust the glass length of the optical system to meet the requirements of the particular image pick-up tube concerned.
