A piston has a top surface composed of porous alumina. Top surface includes a first region and a second region. The first region includes a part or all of a region connecting to an outer periphery of the top surface. The second region is adjacent to the first region. The second region includes some or all of the region inside the top surface. The porous alumina formed on the second region is thinner than that formed on the first region. In a manufacturing method of a piston, first, a casting piston made of aluminum alloy is prepared. Then, a casting surface in a first region is removed, thereby a material surface is exposed. Then, anodization of the casting piston is performed, whereby a porous alumina is formed on the first and second regions.

The control apparatus calculates an equivalence ratio of the internal combustion engine, and controls an EGR valve and a condensed water supply valve such that, when the equivalence ratio is high, a supply rate of the condensed water increases and a supply rate of the EGR gas decreases relative to when the equivalence ratio is low.

The condensed water treatment device obtains (S) the storage water quantity (QW) of a condensed water tank, and drains (S) condensed water in the condensed water tank when the storage water quantity (QW) is larger than a threshold value (tu) and also urea water is supplied to an exhaust passage for a selective-reduction type NOx catalyst. Thereby, the condensed water is neutralized and then drained to the outside of an internal combustion engine through the exhaust passage.

The condensed water processing device determines (S) whether the pH of condensed water stored in the condensed water tank is smaller than a threshold value (t). When the pH of condensed water is smaller than the threshold value (t), the supply quantity of urea water being supplied to the upstream side of the NOx catalyst is increased (S) so that the supply quantity is larger than that in normal control (S) executed when the pH of the condensed water is equal to or more than the threshold value (t).

An ECU of a fuel injection controller acquires information on a load of an internal combustion engine including a fuel injection valve. Based on the load information, a switch is made between low-load-condition control, in which a main injection is performed at a timing that avoids a spray injected by a pilot injection that drifts due to a swirl effect, and high-load condition control, in which the main injection is performed at a timing that interferes with (at least partially overlaps) a spray injected by the pilot injection that drifts due to a swirl effect. In the low-load-condition control, the spray injected by a pilot injection is diffused before the occurrence of ignition to reduce smoke. In the high-load condition control, the spray injected by the main injection is caused to interfere with the spray injected by the pilot injection that contains OH radicals, to reduce smoke.

Exhaust gas purification system for internal combustion engine

The present invention is directed to an exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine that performs high pressure PM filter regeneration process by decreasing the degree of opening of an exhaust throttle valve in regenerating the particulate matter trapping capacity of a particulate filter and has as an object to provide a technology that enables to perform the high pressure PM filter regeneration process while suppressing excessive temperature rise of the particulate filter even while the vehicle is moving. According to the invention, a prediction is made, when the high pressure PM filter regeneration process is performed, as to whether there is a possibility that the temperature of the particulate filter will reach a predetermined upper limit temperature, and the pressure inside the particulate filter is controlled in accordance with the prediction.

In an exhaust gas control apparatus for an internal combustion engine, in a case where an internal combustion engine is in a high load operating state while a PM trapping ability forcible recovery process for a particulate filter is being performed, EGR gas is caused to flow back from a portion downstream of the particulate filter in an exhaust passage to a portion upstream of a compressor housing in an intake passage, whereby the EGR gas is cooled by an intercooler. In a case where the internal combustion engine is in a low load operating state while the PM trapping ability forcible recovery process is being performed, the EGR gas is caused to flow back from the portion downstream of the particulate filter in the exhaust passage to a portion downstream of the intercooler in the intake passage, whereby the EGR gas is prevented from being unnecessarily cooled.

Exhaust gas control apparatus for internal combustion engine

The present invention has for its problem to be solved to provide a technique in which in an exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine with a filter being arranged on an exhaust passage for trapping PM in an exhaust gas, it is possible to suppress an excessive rise in temperature of the filter during execution of filter regeneration control more preferably. In the present invention, when the amount of intake air in the internal combustion engine decreases up to an amount at which an excessive rise in temperature of the filter might be induced during the execution of filter regeneration control, the oxygen concentration of an ambient atmosphere around the filter is decreased up to a target oxygen concentration. At this time, when the amount of intake air being decreased is more than a certain amount, the oxygen concentration of the ambient atmosphere around the filter is lowered mainly by supplying a reducing agent to a catalyst that is arranged at a location upstream of the filter or supported on the filter (S). On the other hand, when the amount of intake air being decreased is equal to or less than the certain amount, the oxygen concentration of the ambient atmosphere around the filter is lowered mainly by performing exhaust gas throttling by means of an exhaust gas throttle valve (S).

Exhaust gas purification system for an internal combustion engine

A filter is arranged in an exhaust passage of an engine. The filter supports a catalyst. An accumulating amount estimating means detects differential pressure of the filter to estimate an amount of soot accumulating on the filter. An oxidizing condition detecting means detects an oxidizing condition of soot accumulating on the filter. A forcible oxidizing means increases temperature of the filter more than oxidizing temperature of soot for forcibly oxidizing soot accumulating in the vicinity of the catalyst of the filter. When the oxidizing condition detecting means detects a condition, in which soot accumulating on the filter is only partially oxidized, the accumulating amount estimating means estimates the amount of soot accumulating on the filter after oxidizing soot accumulating in the vicinity of the catalyst using the forcible oxidizing means.
