An inorganic-organic hybrid film-coated stainless steel foil comprising a stainless steel foil substrate having coated on one surface or both surfaces thereof an inorganic-organic hybrid film, wherein the inorganic-organic hybrid film comprises a skeleton formed of an inorganic three-dimensional network structure mainly comprising a siloxane bond, with at least one crosslinked oxygen of the skeleton being replaced by an organic group and/or a hydrogen atom; and an inorganic-organic hybrid film-coated stainless steel foil comprising a stainless steel foil having coated thereon a plurality of inorganic-organic hybrid films each mainly comprising a siloxane bond, wherein at least a part of Si constituting each inorganic-organic hybrid film is chemically bonded to one or both of an organic group and hydrogen, provided that the uppermost layer out of the plurality of inorganic-organic hybrid films may be an inorganic SiOfilm, and adjacent films of the plurality of inorganic-organic hybrid films (including the inorganic SiOfilm) differ in the composition from each other.

The precoated metal sheet of the invention is a precoated metal sheet comprising a metal or plated metal sheet having stacked on the surface thereof at least a coat layer and an organic resin layer, the metal or plated metal sheet mainly comprising zinc and aluminum and the coat layer mainly comprising one or both of a metal oxide and a metal hydroxide each using a metal species exclusive of chromium.

This invention relates to a graphite material for negative electrode of lithium secondary battery. This graphite material is obtained by carbonizing the pulverized green coke to yield coke, adding one kind or more of boron or a compound thereof to the coke, graphitizing the resulting mixture and controlling the particle size of the product graphite. This graphite material for negative electrode is characterized by showing a tap density of 0.95 g/cmor more after tapping 20 times or 1.15 g/cmor more after tapping 300 times and a BET specific surface area of 1.5 m/g or less. A lithium secondary battery made by the use of this graphite material for negative electrode has a large discharge capacity and suffers little loss during charging and discharging.

Process for producing mesophase pitch-based carbon fibers

This invention relates to a coaltar pitch based carbon fiber having a high Young's modulus produced by using coaltar pitch as a starting material, which has a microstructure with a preferred orientation parameter (HWHM) of 10.degree. or less, a crystallite size (Lc(002)) of not more than 25 nm and not less than 18 nm and an interlayer spacing (d002) of not more than 0.345 nm and not less than 0.338 nm as determined by X-ray diffraction, and has a magnetoresistance of less than -0.40% and not less than -2.00% as measured by applying a magnetic field of 10 KG perpendicular to the fiber axis at liquid nitrogen temperature, and a Young's modulus of 55 ton.multidot.mm.sup.-2 or more, preferably 75 ton.multidot.mm.sup.-2 or more. The carbon fiber of this invention has a high Young's modulus, is flexible, and does not split in the fiber axis direction, and therefore it is easy to handle, is good in workability, and contributed also to improvement of the production efficiency. Further, when the carbon fiber of this invention is used in composite material, the resulting composite material can be expected to have an improved impact strength and hence can be used for various purposes.
