A preparatory head drive method for an ink jet printer having heads each including a plural number of nozzles. In the method, a discharging, preparatory drive method for effecting the head temperature rise by driving the nozzles so as to discharge ink and a heating, preparatory drive method for effecting the same by driving the nozzles to such an extent as not to discharge ink are alternately executed.

Preparatory head drive method for an ink jet printer

An ink-jet recording apparatus quickly completes a preparatory driving operation, and suppresses the wasteful consumption of the ink even if the apparatus is used in a cold environment after the apparatus has been held inoperative for a long time. The ink-jet recording apparatus comprises a first storage for storing a first driving pulse width data, a second storage for storing a second driving pulse width data, and a plurality of driving pulse generating units. A data selecting unit selects either the first driving pulse width data or the second driving pulse width data according to selection data set by a dot counter control unit, and a print pulse width setting unit and the driving pulse generating units generate ink-jet print head driving pulses. A print data processing unit produces print data for driving the nozzles of the ink-jet print head. The first and second driving pulse width data is used selectively and the print data is produced according to the time for which the ink-jet recording apparatus has been held inoperative and the temperature of the ink-jet print head.

Ink-jet recording apparatus having drive pulse width control dependent

A recording apparatus having a head mounted on a carriage movable relative to a recording medium. Character data, arranged in a row, is printed and recorded on the recording medium along the direction substantially orthogonal to the direction of movement of the carriage. The carriage is moved to print and record character data corresponding to one line. The recording apparatus comprises at least two storing units respectively having storage regions corresponding to one scan, an identifying device for detecting whether or not there is image data extending over a printing boundary when the image data is developed in one of the storing units, and a controller inhibiting the feeding of the recording medium when the identifying device detects the image data spreading over the printing boundary. The controller also develops a portion of the image data in the other of the storing units and printing it on the recording medium. Thus, an image, which is excellent in quality, can be obtained at a high speed without feeding the recording medium in a reverse direction and by efficiently utilizing the storing units.

Controller for a recording apparatus

An ink jet recording apparatus having a plurality of recording head units, a test printing operation is carried out to detect the amounts of shift in position of the resultant records, and the amounts of shift thus detected is utilized for determining the maximum number of nozzles to be used and the positions of them for each recording head unit. The number of nozzles to be used is compared with a minimum unit of sheet feed, and determined so that the number of nozzles and the minimum unit are most suitably compatible with each other. In a printing operation, the use of nozzles is controlled, and the amount of feed of the recording sheet is set to the print width which corresponds to the number of nozzles to be used.

Ink jet recording apparatus and method therefor

An ink-jet recording apparatus of the present invention is provided with a carriage which moves relatively to a recording medium, one or a plurality of head cartridges which are detachably mounted on the carriage, each of the head cartridges having a plurality of nozzles, the plurality of nozzles being divided into a plurality of nozzle groups each having a predetermined number of the nozzles, each of the nozzle groups sequentially ejecting ink to perform recording for one line in an arrangement direction of the nozzles, a first storage device for storing a piece of drive pulse width data for driving the nozzles, a second storage device for storing one or more pieces of drive pulse width data for driving the nozzles, a drive pulse generating unit for generating a drive pulse width for driving the nozzle groups in accordance with the drive pulse width data stored in the first storage device or the second storage device, and further a temperature detecting device for detecting a temperature of the head.

Temperatures control system for ink-jet recording apparatus

A recording apparatus having a head mounted on a carriage moving relatively to a recording medium, the head printing one column substantially perpendicular to the direction in which the carriage moves so as to print a single line. The apparatus comprises a storage device for storing print data in units of bits and for allowing any of the print data to be accessed in units of bits by an X address and a Y address; an X address counter for designating the X address in the storage device; a Y address counter for designating the Y address in the storage device; a mode setting register for storing write mode data; a memory read/write timing controller for generating a plurality of timing signals for writing and reading to and from the storage device; a bus timing controller for outputting print data in units of bits in accordance with the content of the mode setting register upon receipt of print data in units of words; and a selector for supplying any one of the X address counter and the Y address counter with the timing signals in accordance with the content of the mode setting register, the selector further sending a carry signal from the address counter having received the timing signals to the address counter not receiving the timing signals.

An ink jet printer according to the present invention provides a carriage adapted to move relative to a recording medium, a printing head mounted on the carriage in such a manner that the printing head is inclined by a predetermined angle with respect to a printing direction, a plurality of nozzles arranged in a line on the printing head, first device for jetting ink from the nozzles and printing in a direction of an arrangement of the nozzles by a length thereof by driving each of the nozzles at a predetermined time interval, second device for determining a printing interval between adjacent nozzles in accordance with a printing speed of the printing head and a mounting angle defined thereby.

Ink jet printer with a device for determining a printing interval

An ink jet recording device having a capability of detecting the life of an ink jet recording head. The ink jet recording device includes a size sensor for generating a paper size signal relating to a size of a printing paper; a detecting device for detecting the number of print scans of the recording head; a converting device for counting the number of print scans detected by the detecting device without correction when the size of the printing paper is a predetermined paper size and for converting the number of print scans detected by the detecting device into the number of print scans corresponding to the predetermined paper size to count the converted number of print scans when the size of the printing paper is any size other than the predetermined paper size; an accumulating device for accumulating the number of print scans counted by the converting device; and a memory for storing the number of print scans accumulated by the accumulating device. The ink jet recording device further includes an informing device for informing the number of print scans accumulated by the accumulating device. Accordingly, the expiration of the life of the recording head can be easily and reliably predicted.
