A ball includes a ball body having a spherical surface, and at least one projection extending from the surface of the ball body. The projection extends in such a manner that the projection forcibly separates a laminar boundary layer generated on the surface of the ball body, and transitions the laminar boundary layer to a turbulent boundary layer.

Ball

A sheet guide apparatus includes a transfer cylinder, delivery chains, and sheet guide structure. The transfer cylinder holds a sheet. The delivery chains hold the sheet received from the transfer cylinder and conveys the sheet along a first convey path which is at least substantially arcuate. The sheet guide structure guides the sheet conveyed by the delivery chains. The sheet guide structure includes a movable guide member and stationary guide member. The movable guide member is movable between positions close to and spaced apart from the first convey path. The stationary guide member is stationarily arranged at a position spaced apart from the first convey path. When the movable guide member is close to the first convey path, a thin-sheet guide surface having a continuous substantially arcuate section is formed by only the movable guide member. When the movable guide member is spaced apart from the first convey path, a thick-sheet guide surface having a continuous substantially arcuate section is formed by the movable and stationary guide members.

Sheet guide apparatus

A plate inserting apparatus in a rotary printing press inserts a plate in a leading edge plate clamp of a plate cylinder. The plate inserting apparatus includes a plate holder and actuators. The plate holder holds the plate. The actuators move the plate holder in directions to come close to and separate from the plate cylinder. The plate holder forms a moving track comprised of at least a first straight portion and a curved portion. The first straight portion extends in a direction to insert the plate held by the plate holder into the plate fixing unit. The curved portion is connected to a counter plate cylinder-side end of the first straight portion to change a traveling direction of the plate holder.

Plate inserting apparatus in rotary printing press

A scroll compressor has a pair of interleaved scrolls. An Oldham coupling is attached to the orbiting scroll to prevent of the orbiting scroll. This Oldham coupling has keys that are sliding received in slots. One side of each key is loaded while the opposite side is non-loaded. The non-loaded side of the key has stepped or profiled surface to provided clearance to allow deflection of the key. In another embodiment, the stepped or profiled surface is provided on the non-loaded side of the slot.

Plate exchanging apparatus and method in rotary printing press

A plate removal apparatus in a rotary printing press, which removes outside a printing unit a plate unfixed from a plate fixing unit of a plate cylinder in the printing unit includes a first guide member and a regulating member. The first guide member falls inside the printing unit in removing the plate from the plate cylinder to guide the plate removed from the plate cylinder outside the printing unit. The regulating member is interlocked with falling operation of the first guide member to prevent the plate guided by the first guide member from entering into the printing unit.

Plate removal apparatus in rotary printing press

A plate exchanging apparatus in a rotary printing press, which removes an old plate from a plate fixing unit of a plate cylinder and inserts a new plate includes a plate holder and an actuator. The plate holder holds the new plate. The actuator performs one of moving and swinging operations of the plate holder in directions to come close to and separate from the plate cylinder. The actuator selectively positions the plate holder to a first position where the new plate is held in the plate holder, a second position where the new plate held by the plate holder is retreated from an old plate removal path, and a third position where the new plate is inserted into the plate fixing unit of the plate cylinder.

Plate exchanging apparatus in rotary printing press

A plate inserting apparatus in a rotary printing press for inserting a plate into a plate fixing unit of a plate cylinder includes a plate holder, a cover, and a first reference pin. The plate holder moves between a first position where the plate holder holds the plate and a second position where the held plate is inserted into the plate fixing unit of the plate cylinder. The cover selectively opens and closes a plate insertion side of the plate cylinder. The first reference pin is fixed to the cover to position the plate before held by the plate holder when the plate holder is located at the first position.

A cylinder cleaning apparatus for a printing press includes a cleaning unit, an actuator, another actuator, and a control unit. The cleaning unit is supported by a printing press frame to be movable between a cleaning position where a cleaning web is in contact with a circumferential surface of a cylinder and a retreat position where the cleaning web is separate from the circumferential surface of the cylinder. The cleaning unit has a cleaning cloth supply roll for supplying the cleaning web to the circumferential surface of the cylinder and a cleaning cloth take-up roll for taking up the cleaning web supplied from the cleaning cloth supply roll. The actuator is fixed to the printing press frame to pivot the take-up roll for a predetermined amount, thereby taking up the cleaning web. Another actuator moves the cleaning unit to one of the cleaning position and the retreat position in accordance with whether the cylinder is in a first or second cleaning mode. The control unit controls at least one of the two actuators in accordance with a position of the cleaning unit to set take-up amounts of the cleaning web to be taken up by the take-up roll in the first and second cleaning modes to be substantially equal to each other.

Cylinder cleaning apparatus for printing press

An apparatus for mounting a plate on a plate cylinder includes a plate lockup device, reference pins, and a lamp. The plate lockup device is provided in a gap formed in the circumference surface of the plate cylinder. The reference pins are electrically rendered conductive by an insertion end of a plate inserted to a gripper surface of the plate lockup device, thereby detecting insertion of the plate. The lamp confirms and indicates insertion of the plate from an output from the reference pins.

Apparatus for mounting plate on plate cylinder

A plate mounted state confirming apparatus includes reference pins, a transmitting coupler, and a receiving coupler. The reference pins detect contact of an insertion end of a plate inserted in a gripper portion of a plate lockup device provided in a gap formed in an outer circumferential surface of a plate cylinder in an axial direction thereof. The transmitting coupler outputs a detection signal obtained by the reference pins as an electrical signal from a plate cylinder. The receiving coupler receives the electrical signal from the transmitting coupler outside the plate cylinder in a non-contact manner.
