An active noise control (ANC) system includes a speaker and one or more processors. The one or more processors implement an adaptive subband filtered reference control algorithm that applies thresholds to reference and error feedback signal paths such that, in response to a series of broadband non-Gaussian impulsive reference signals indicative of road noise in the vehicle having an audible frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, weight coefficients defining an adaptive filter of the control algorithm converge and permit the ANC system to partially cancel the road noise via output of the speaker.

Subband algorithm with threshold for robust broadband active noise control system

An active noise control (ANC) system includes a speaker and one or more processors programmed to implement a delayless subband filtered-x least mean square control algorithm. The algorithm includes a variable bandwidth discrete Fourier transform filter bank having a number of subbands such that the system, in response to a broadband white noise reference signal indicative of road noise in the vehicle, exhibits a uniform gain spectrum across a frequency range defined by the subbands and partially cancels the road noise via output of the speaker.

Variable bandwidth delayless subband algorithm for broadband active noise control system

A multiple error filtered-x least mean square (MEFxLMS) algorithm using a channel equalization virtual secondary path for an active noise control/cancellation (ANC) system for treating noise in a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) system. The channel equalization technique equalizes amplitude levels of the estimated response of all primary channels to overcome limitations caused by the frequency dependent property of standard filtered-x least mean square (FxLMS) algorithm, reduce the variation of convergence speed existed in the multiple channels, and improve the overall performance of the control system. The convergence property of the algorithm is analyzed in the frequency domain.

Multi-channel active noise control system with channel equalization

An adaptive noise control system is deployed in a box-like structure positioned within the transfer path along which the noise is being transmitted from the source of the generated noise to the receiver of the noise in the passenger compartment of an automobile. The adaptive noise control system is can be deployed in the dual bulkhead of the vehicle dashboard to provide a constrained volume within which engine noise can be controlled. The adaptive control system generates a mathematical model of the noise to be controlled in response to the acoustic environment identified by sensors placed within the engine compartment. Sensors in the passenger compartment define the effectiveness of the noise control system. The controller is operable to update the mathematical model in response to the changes in the acoustic environment, thus providing the appropriate acoustic response within the dual bulkhead plenum for control of noise along the transfer path.

Adaptive noise control system

A noise control system is directed to the path along which the noise is transmitted from the source of the noise being generated to the receiver of the noise in the passenger compartment of an automotive vehicle. The noise control system is deployed in a box structure, such as the dual bulkhead of the dashboard of the vehicle, to provide a constrained volume within which engine noise can be controlled. The dual bulkhead plenum houses an active noise control apparatus, such as a speaker or a vibrating device, between the bulkheads to be operable with a control algorithm to generate sound that can control the noise or vibrations generated by the engine. The plenum can also be treated with passive noise control materials, such as viscoelastic damping materials, acoustical foam or heavy vinyl barrier and foam to block airborne sound and vibrations, in addition to the active noise control.

Indirect acoustic transfer control of noise

A noise control system operable within a box-like structure provided by the dual bulkhead plenum of the vehicle dashboard positioned within the transfer path along which the noise is being transmitted from the source of the generated noise to the receiver of the noise in the passenger compartment of an automobile. The plenum is divided into discrete chambers into each of which is provided smart materials affixed to the walls of the plenum to be operable for selectively changing a property characteristic of the chambers to vary the acoustic resonance of the plenum and change the effectiveness of controlling the transmission of noise energy therethrough. A controller is coupled to the smart materials to change said property characteristic of the smart material in response to noise cancellation requirements.

Noise control system using smart materials

A noise control system is operable within a box-like structure provided by the dual bulkhead plenum of the vehicle dashboard positioned within the transfer path along which the noise is being transmitted from the source of the generated noise to the receiver of the noise in the passenger compartment of an automobile. The plenum is divided into discrete chambers into each of which is provided a counter noise generating apparatus to create a counteracting noise offsetting the noise generated at the source. The acoustic resonance of the chambers amplifies the noise control energy. The geometry of the individual chambers can be varied to optimize the packaging and sound control or shaping strategy. The sound energy permitted to pass through the plenum to the driver's side of the passenger compartment can be tuned to be different than the noise received in the passenger's side.

Multi-chamber noise control system

An assemblywhich allows a vehicular damper to be virtually created and evaluated. Particularly, the assemblyincludes a torque producer, a frequency filter generator, and analyzersand. The torque produceselectively produces a torque signal which is combined with a selected frequency filter provided by the generator, thereby producing a dampened signal which is communicated to a transmission assembly. The analyzer detects noise and vibration and allows a designer to evaluate the chosen frequency filter. Other filters may be used and a filter is selected based upon the noise and vibration measurements made by the analyzers, and. An actual damper is then constructed having a frequency characteristic which is substantially similar to the frequency characteristic of the chosen frequency filter.

Method and apparatus for designing and developing a vehicular damper

An air induction arrangement for a variable displacement engine is provided. The air induction arrangement includes first and second plenums fluidly connected to respective first and second throttles . The first and second throttles are connected to respective first and second inlets . In partial operation, the air induction arrangement induces air into the first plenum . In higher power demand operation, the air induction arrangement additionally induces air through the second plenum . There is a reduction of the cancellation of acoustic output between the first and second inlets so that an acoustic output of the engine operating with only a first group of cylinders is similar to the acoustic output of the engine when the engine is operating with both groups of cylinders
