An organic electroluminescence element has an anode, a hole transport layer, a light emitting layer made of organic compounds, an electron transport layer and a cathode. The light emitting layer comprises an organic host material having an electron transport capability and an organic guest material of phosphorescent material. An ionization potential energy of the organic host material is higher than that of the hole transport layer. The difference in the ionization potential energy between the organic host material of the light emitting layer and the hole transport layer is in a range from 0.4 eV to 0.8 eV.

Organic electroluminescence element

An organic semiconductor diode comprises a hole transport layer which is arranged on an anode side and formed of an organic compound having a hole transport capability, and an electron transport layer which is arranged on a cathode side and formed of an organic compound having an electron transport capability. The hole transport layer and the electron transport layer are laminated one upon another. The cathode has a work function close to or smaller than the electron affinity of the electron transport layer, while the anode has a work function larger than that of the cathode. The organic semiconductor diode exhibits nonlinear current-voltage characteristics when a voltage is applied between the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer in contact with each other.

Organic semiconductor diode

An organic semiconductor diode includes at least one hole transport layer which is arranged on an anode side and formed of an organic compound having a hole transport capability, and at least one electron transport layer which is arranged on a cathode side and formed of an organic compound having an electron transport capability. The at least one hole transport layer and the at least one electron transport layer are laminated one upon another. The organic semiconductor diode exhibits nonlinear current-voltage characteristics when a voltage is applied between the hole transport layer and the electron transport layer in contact with each other. The hole transport layer at an anode-side end has an ionization potential larger than an electron affinity of the electron transport layer at a cathode side end.

Organic electroluminescence element display device with organic semiconductor diodes

An organic electroluminescence element is comprised of a laminate of an anode, a light emitting layer made of an organic compound including phosphorescent materials, an electron transport layer made of an organic compound, and a cathode In the electroluminescence element, a hole blocking layer made of a specific aluminium chelate complex is laminated between the light emitting layer and the electron transport layer.

An organic electroluminescent device comprises an anode, a positive-hole transport layer made of an organic compound, an emitting layer made of an organic compound, an electron transport layer made of an organic compound, an electron-injecting layer, and a cathode which are layered in sequence. The electron-injecting layer is made of an alkaline metal compound comprising at least one of Li, Rb, Cs, Na, and K including alkaline metal oxides, alkaline metal peroxides, alkaline metal compound oxides, alkaline metal halides, alkaline metal nitride, and alkaline metal salt such as Li.sub.2 O, Li.sub.2 O.sub.2, Rb.sub.2 O, Cs.sub.2 O, Rb.sub.2 O.sub.2, CS.sub.2 O.sub.2, LiAlO.sub.2, LiBO.sub.2, LiCl, RbCl, NaCl, KAlO.sub.2, Na.sub.2 WO.sub.4, K.sub.2 SiO.sub.3, and Li.sub.2 CO.sub.3.

Organic electroluminescent device

An organic electroluminescent device comprises an organic emitting layer and a hole transport layer laminated with each other and arranged between a cathode and an anode, in characterized in that the hole transport layer made of the triphenylbenzene derivative. This hole transport layer has the high heart-resistant property and high conductivity to improve the durability and thus this device emits light at a high luminance and a high efficiency upon application of a low voltage.

An organic electroluminescent device having an organic emitting layer and a hole transport layer laminated with each other and arranged between a cathode and an anode, and the hole transport layer is made of tris-phenothiazinyl-triphenylamine or tris-phenoxazinyl-triphenylamine derivative. The hole transport layer has a high heat-resistant property and high conductivity to improve durability and emits light at a high luminance and a high efficiency upon application of a low voltage.

An organic electroluminescent device which includes a cathode, an organic emitting layer which includes a quinoline derivative and a quinacridone or quinazoline compound, an organic positive hole transport layer, and an anode, laminated in sequence, has a high emission efficiency and a high color purity of light emitted from the EL device.

An organic EL element comprises a cathode, an EL layer of organic compound, a first hole transport layer of organic compound, a second hole transport layer of organic compound and an anode which are laminated in sequence, wherein the second hole transport layer is made of a substance represented by the following chemical formula 1: ##STR1## where R each independently represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group of from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, a halogen group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a primary, secondary or tertiary amino group, or an aryl group of from 6 to 15 carbon atoms. This organic EL element prevents a leakage current and emits light stably for a long time.

Electroluminescent device with improved luminous efficiency, where a fluorescent emitting layer and a positive-hole transporting layer are layered on each other and arranged between a cathode and an anode, the two layers comprising organic compounds and the fluorescent emitting layer being composed of quinoline derivative as a host material, characterized by containing in the fluorescent emitting layer, as a guest material, a quinacridone compound of the following formula (A); ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are independently hydrogen, methyl group or chlorine or the dehydro form of the quinacridone compound.

Electroluminescent device

An electroluminescent device comprising a fluophor luminescent layer and a hole transport layer respectively composed of organic compounds and laminated to each other disposed between a cathode and an anode, said fluophor luminescent layer comprising a pair of fluophor thin films laminated in each other, the material of the cathode-side film having a larger electron transport capacity than the material of the anode-side film.

The electroluminescent element of the present invention comprises a fluorescent substance layer containing a courmarinic or azacoumarinic derivative and a hole transport layer, both made of organic compounds and laminated on top of the other. The both layers are interposed between cathode and anode electrodes. It emits light efficiently at a high luminance upon application of a low voltage between the electrodes.

Electroluminescent element

Disclosed herein is an electroluminescent element which is constructed such that a fluorescent substance layer and a hole transport layer, both made of organic compounds and laminated on top of the other, are interposed between a cathode and an anode. The fluorescent substance layer is a thin film containing a bisstyryl derivative. It emits blue light efficiently at a high luminance upon application of a low voltage.
