An emergency locking retractor with a non-locking mechanism is provided. The mechanism includes a lock means and first, main and auxiliary control means. The lock means is movable between an operated position, where it prevents rotation of a take-up spindle, and a non-operated position where it permits free rotation of the spindle. The first control means detects acceleration and brings the lock means to the operated position. The main control means can take either a holding state, where it holds the lock means at the non-operated position, while the lock means is not required to operate or a non-holding state where it allows the lock means to operate. The main control means is normally biased in the holding state. The auxiliary control means is movable between a first position, where it holds the main control means in the non-holding state, and a second position where it allows the main control means to be brought into the holding state. The auxiliary control means is normally biased to assume the first position.

Emergency locking retractor with non-locking mechanism

An automatic locking retractor suitable for use in a vehicle seat belt includes locking means which is composed of a latch plate rotatable as a unitary member with a take-up spindle and a lock member engageable with the latch plate to prevent the rotation of the take-up spindle. The engagement between the latch plate and lock member is controlled by a cam member or disk of a simple structure. Making use of magnetism, the cam member or disk is kept in a cooperative relation with the latch plate or take-up spindle. The automatic locking retractor requires fewer parts, and hence permits easy parts handling and facilitates its assembly work. It is also compact.

Automatic locking retractor

In a safety belt for a car or the like, a buckle is provided to receive a tongue releasably. The buckle includes a latch member engageable with the tongue, a U-shaped base defining an opening in the direction of insertion of the tongue and supporting the latch member turnably, and a bridge secured to the lower end of the base and having engagement portions which when the tongue is in a state kept in engagement with the latch member, are kept in engagement with the tongue at two points. Owing to this structure, the tongue can be firmly held without play and the buckle can withstand large forces and moments applied thereto by way of the tongue.

Seat belt buckle

A buckle for a seat belt includes a latch piece pivotably supported by a buckle body and having a latch portion engageable with a tang when pivoted in a first direction, a release button pivotably supported by the buckle body and engageable with the latch piece during the pivotal movement thereof in the first direction to cause the latch piece to pivotally move in a second direction and release the engagement thereof with the tang, a first biasing member for biasing the latch piece in the first direction, and a second biasing member for biasing the release button in the second direction. The latch piece has its mid-portion as the center of pivotal movement, and the release button has one end thereof as the center of pivotable movement. The end of the latch piece opposite to the latch portion thereof is engageable with the vicinity of the center of rotation of the release button.

Buckle for seat belt

An improved automatic locking retractor for use with a seatbelt system designed to operate with improved reliability while having a simplified structure. An improved control mechanism is provided for governing the locking of the seatbelt system when appropriate. The control mechanism is a control plate which cooperates with a latch plate which in turn cooperates with the take-up reel of the seatbelt system. Movement of the control plate controls the movement of a locking lever which selectively locks the latch plate to lock the take-up reel when appropriate.

A retractor has a webbing take-up shaft rotatably supported in a base, a biasing member for biasing the take-up shaft in a webbing take-up direction, a connecting member for connecting one portion and another portion of the biasing member, a locking member movably provided in the base and engageable with the connecting member, and a control device for controlling the condition of the locking member. The locking member is capable of assuming a locking position in which it is engaged with the connecting member to prevent the biasing force of the other portion of the biasing member from acting on the take-up shaft and a non-locking position in which it is in non-engagement with the connecting member to permit the biasing force of the one portion and the other portion of the biasing member to act on the take-up shaft, and when the locking member is brought to the locking position by the control device, it is movable away from the connecting member when the connecting member moves with the take-up shaft rotating in a webbing draw-out direction.

Retractor

A seat belt latch device has latch means for retaining an engaging member coupled to a seat belt. The latch means includes inertia sensing means for sensing a predetermined variation in speed of a vehicle, and a retaining member responsive to the sensing operation of the inertia sensing means. The retaining means retains the engaging member when there is a predetermined variation in speed of the vehicle.

Seat belt latch device

A buckle device has a tongue member, a base member, a latch member mounted on the base member so as to be capable of assuming an engaging position in which the latch member is engageable with the tongue member and a non-engaging position in which the latch member is not engageable with the tongue member, and an operating member capable of assuming an operative position in which it brings the latch member to the non-engaging position and a non-operative position in which the latch member can assume the engaging position. The latch member has a first engaging portion and a second engaging portion, and the operating member has a first acting portion and a second acting portion. When the latch member is in the engaging position and the operating member is being brought from the non-operative position to the operative position, the first acting portion of the operating member is first engaged with the first engaging portion of the latch member to move the latch member by a set amount from the engaging position toward the non-engaging position and subsequently, the second acting portion of the operating member is engaged with the second engaging portion of the latch member to bring the latch member to the non-engaging position.

Buckle device

A latch device for a moving runner member used in an automatic seat belt system has a runner member adapted to be moved by a driving member between a seat occupant restraining position and a seat occupant liberating position, an operating member mounted on the runner member for movement between a first position and a second position and connected to the driving member, a lock member supported by the runner member for movement between an engaging position and a non-engaging position, a latch member secured to a vehicle body and adapted to engage and restrain the lock member moved to the engaging position and to be disengaged from the lock member trying to move toward the seat occupant liberating position and thereby release the restraint.

Latch device for a moving runner member used in an automatic seat belt

A latch device for a runner member used in a passive seat belt system includes a longitudinally extending guide member, a runner member movably mounted on the guide member and having an engaging portion and webbing attached thereto, a driving member for moving the runner member between a passenger restraining position and a passenger releasing position, and a latch member movably mounted on a base member between an engaging position in which the latch member is engageable with the engaging portion of the runner member and a non-engaging position. The latch member is biased toward the engaging position. A cam member is fixed to the driving member, and a slide member, which connects the runner member with the driving member, is slidable relative to the driving member within a predetermined range. The cam member moves the latch member into the non-engaging position when the runner member is about to leave the passenger restraining position together with the driving member.

Latch for runner utilized in passive type seat belt system

In a seat belt emergency locking device for retaining a seat belt by inserting into a latch portion a tongue portion connected to the seat belt, which device comprises a base tongue having the tongue portion thereof secured to the seat belt and an auxiliary plate, a retaining device actuable by an inertia device sensing an impact or a sudden acceleration or deceleration exerted on a vehicle and an auxiliary engaging tooth provided on the auxiliary plate are primarily engaged with each other, and subsequently a pallet provided in the latch portion and an engaging tooth provided on the base tongue are secondarily engaged with each other. The primary and secondary engagement actions are operatively associated with each other.

In a seat belt device including at least a belt for constraining the upper half of the body of a seat occupant, the shoulder belt, when in occupant constraining position, is guided so as to prevent the end portion of the belt adjacent to the shoulder of the occupant from bearing against the neck or the head of the occupant.

A seat belt buckle device having a latch device comprising a base, a latch member pivotally supported on the base and having a latching portion for locking a tongue, the latch member being biased into a tongue locking position, a push button adapted, when operated, to bring the latch member into an unlocking position, and a cover having an inlet port for inserting the tongue therethrough and an opening for operating the push button therethrough. The latch member is pivotally supported on a supporting bed secured to the base. The latch device further comprises means for holding the latch member in its unlocking position when the latch member is brought from its tongue locking position to its unlocking position by the push button, whereby the latch member is held in the unlocking position until the latch member is brought back to its tongue locking position after the tongue is again inserted in the inlet port.

Seat belt buckle device

A safety belt take-up device provided with a double sensing type emergency-lock mechanism comprises webbing draw acceleration sensing means, vehicle acceleration sensing means, first transmission means and lock means. The webbing draw acceleration sensing means may shift from a first position to a second position when a webbing is drawn out at an acceleration greater than a predetermined value. The vehicle acceleration sensing means may shift from a first position to a second position when the vehicle acceleration has exceeded a predetermined value. The first transmission means is connectible to a take-up spindle along with the shift from the first position to the second position of the webbing draw acceleration sensing means and/or the vehicle acceleration sensing means and adapted to shift from a first position to a second position due to the webbing draw-out force. The lock means may prevent the draw-out of the webbing when the first transmission means has shifted to its second position.
