In an FOP, a glass bodyis configured by including antimicrobial glass portionsmade of antimicrobial glass containing AgO. Here, the glass containing silver does not have chemical durability, so that it has properties to easily emit Ag ions due to moisture. Ag ions have an excellent antimicrobial effect. Therefore, by configuring the glass bodyto include the antimicrobial glass portionscontaining AgO, the glass bodycan obtain a sterilization effect due to the action of Ag ions. Therefore, the FOPcan be provided with antimicrobial activities.

A fiber optic includes a plurality of fibers each including a core made of core glass for propagating light and a cladding for covering an outer periphery of the core and made of cladding glass lower in refractive index than the core glass and an absorber glass arranged between the plurality of fibers and for absorbing light leaking from the plurality of fibers. In a fiber optic blockformed by bundling and integrating a plurality of optical fiberseach composed of a core regionand a clad region, an at least partially curved input end facecomposed of one end of each optical fiber and a measurement surface having a curved surface shape of a to-be-measured object are pressed against each other. Then, an optical image formed by bringing the input end face into contact with the measurement surface and output from an output end faceof the fiber optic block is used to inspect the curved surface shape of the to-be-measured object. This allows a curved surface shape inspection method capable of inspecting the shape of a curved surface easily, a fiber optic block, and a curved surface shape inspection apparatus to be achieved.

Optical component formed by plural multicore optical fibers

An optical component has a plurality of optical fibers comprising a first clad a core formed around the first clad and a second clad formed around the core arrayed regularly so that the fiber axes may be parallel to each other, having an incident plane cut obliquely to the fiber axis and an exit plane cut vertically to the fiber axis. Optical component

An optical component is constructed in such structure that a plurality of optical fibers are arranged in parallel to each other and the component has an entrance surface obliquely cut relative to the optical axis and an exit surface normally cut relative to the optical axis. The cross section of the optical component is shaped so that optical fiber pairs, each pair being such a combination of two optical fibers with cores of semicircular cross section as to form a substantially circular cross section, are arranged regularly. Orientation of two semicircular cores forming the optical fiber pair is random in each optical fiber pair. Cladding of each optical fiber is provided so as to be integrated by a heating and pressing process to fill a clearance between cores of two optical fibers forming the optical fiber pair of interest and clearances between adjacent optical fiber pairs.

As shown in FIG. , an optical device comprises an input optical member , in which a plurality of optical fibers are arranged parallel to each other and integrally formed, having an entrance surface and an exit surface which intersect an optical axis at an angle of 15&deg; and at an angle of 30&deg;, respectively; and an output optical member , in which a plurality of optical fibers are c:l arranged parallel to each other and integrally formed, having an entrance surface and an exit surface which intersect an optical axis at an angle of 7.5&deg; and at an angle of 90&deg;, respectively. Here, the exit surface,of the input optical member,and the entrance surface,of the output optical member,are in contact with each other, whereas the angle formed between the optical axis of the input optical member,and the optical axis of the output optical member,is an angle of 35&deg; which is the difference between 55&deg; and 20&deg; mentioned above.

Optical device and imaging apparatus using the same

The fiberoptic block in accordance with the present invention has an input end face constituted by a combination of a plurality of surfaces each of which is inclined at a slant angle .alpha. by which disturbing light from within the air can be eliminated, whereby an irregularity image with a high contrast can be emitted as usual. Also, it has an output end face perpendicular to the axis of each unit fiber. Accordingly, when the output end face is butted against and secured to an input face of a photodetector, the irregularity image is made incident on the input face of the photodetector so as to be substantially perpendicular thereto, thus allowing a bright irregularity image to be attained. Further, since this fiberoptic block has a form extending from the output end face in a direction perpendicular thereto, it can be attached to the photodetector relatively easily with a high precision.

Fiberoptic block for high contrast imaging

The fiber optic device in accordance with the present invention has a structure in which two fiber optic members are connected together, end faces thereof opposing each other. The input-side fiber optic member comprises cores extending in a predetermined direction and a light absorber surrounding the cores. The output-side fiber optic member comprises cores extending in a predetermined direction, and a cladding surrounding the cores. The input end face of the input-side member is inclined with respect to core axes therein. In this device, the angle of inclination of the input end face of the input-side member or the angle formed between the output end face of the output-side member and each core axis in the output-side member can be set to a value relatively near to 90.degree.. Accordingly, this device can be attached to a photodetector with relative ease. Also, a light receiving member formed by this attachment is relatively compact.
