A surface mount inductor includes a coil including a wound portion and a feeder end portion drawn out from the wound portion, a compact that contains a magnetic powder and that encapsulates the coil, and an external terminal disposed on the compact and connected to the coil. The compact has surfaces including two pressed surfaces, opposing each other in a direction of an axis of the wound portion and formed by being pressed in the direction of the axis, and a non-pressed surface, adjacent to the two surfaces and not pressed. The coil is disposed so that the axis of the wound portion is parallel to a mount surface of the compact. The mount surface is included in the non-pressed surface, the feeder end portion is exposed from the mount surface, and the external terminal is formed on only the non-pressed surface and connected to the feeder end portion.

Surface mount inductor and method for manufacturing the same

A coil includes a winding section that are formed by winding a conductive wire having an insulating cover and a pair of opposite principal surfaces into an upper stage and a lower stage that are connected to each other by an innermost turn of the conductive wire that serves as a transition section while both ends of the conductive wire are located at an outermost turn of the conductive wire. The coil also includes a pair of lead-out portions that are taken from respective outermost turns of the upper stage and the lower stage and that continue to respective ends of the conductive wire. In the coil, at least part of the transition section includes a widened portion, and a width of the widened portion of the conductive wire is greater than a width of the conductive wire at a position other than the widened portion.

Coil and inductor including the same

A surface mount inductor includes a coil including a conducting wire winding portion with both ends on the outer circumference and a pair of extension portions that extend from the outer circumference, a molded body containing a metal magnetic powder and the coil embedded, and a pair of outer terminals disposed on the molded body and connected to the extension portions. The molded body has principal surfaces, end surfaces, and side surfaces. One principal surface serves as a mounting surface including a recessed portion with an elevated region and a lowered region. The coil is embedded in the molded body with the winding axis of the winding portion parallel to the recessed portion, and the pair of extension portions extend from the outer circumference toward the mounting surface to be exposed at the lowered region and connected to the pair of outer terminals in the lowered region.

Surface mount inductor

A surface-mount inductor including: a coil formed by winding insulated wire and bringing out lead ends therefrom; and a plurality of premolded bodies for accommodating the coil inside, thereby thermopressing to form, wherein a pair of metal terminals is embedded laterally on the outer surface of the surface-mount inductor, and the lead ends of the coil are brought out from the bottom surface of the surface-mount inductor and laterally laid on the outer surface of the metal terminals, as well as a method for manufacturing the same.

Surface-mount inductor

A coil component, in which a space on an outer periphery of a winding interposed between a pair of flange portion is coated with a resin with magnetic powder, has a problem of long-term reliability that a thermosetting resin expands and contracts due to change in a temperature and the flange portions are fatigued to be broken. An object of the present invention is to provide the coil component of which core is hardly broken even when the resin with magnetic powder expands and contracts and a method of manufacturing the same. In order to solve the above-described problem, the method of manufacturing the coil component according to one embodiment of the present invention is a method of manufacturing a coil component including a drum-shaped core including a winding core portion and a pair of flange portions provided on both ends in an axial direction of the winding core portion, and a winding wound around the winding core portion, including applying a mold releasing agent for providing a gap on at least one of opposed surfaces of the pair of flange portions, winding the winding around the winding core portion, applying a resin with magnetic powder formed of a thermosetting resin to a space on an outer periphery of the winding interposed between the pair of flange portions, and thermally curing the resin with magnetic powder.
