An internal combustion engine is provided in which fuel pressure is changed and fuel injection is controlled in accordance with engine operating conditions. The internal combustion engine comprises a cylinder, a direct injection injector, a detection unit, and a control unit. The control unit includes two maps describing two factors of a fuel injection characteristic coefficient and an invalid injection period with respect to the fuel pressure of the direct injection injector. A first calculating section calculates a required fuel injection quantity. A second calculating section calculates a required fuel injection period in accordance with the required fuel injection quantity and the two factors of the fuel injection characteristic coefficient and the invalid injection period with respect to the fuel pressure. A controlling section controls the fuel injection such that the fuel is injected for the required fuel injection period.

Internal combustion engine

An automatic transfer apparatus includes a plurality of transfer units which are disposed to face machining units aligned with spacing. Each transfer unit comprises a support base having a workpiece supporting surface and a workpiece positioning mechanism provided on the workpiece supporting surface, an elevation member supported by the support base for vertical movement, an elevating mechanism for lifting and lowering the elevation member between first and second positions, a transfer member supported on the elevation member for movement in a transfer direction and having a workpiece supporting portion, and a reciprocating mechanism for reciprocating the transfer member. The reciprocating mechanism includes a speed doubling mechanism which is composed of a stationary rack gear provided on the elevation member, a movable rack gear provided on the transfer member, a pinion gear engaged with both rack gears, and a feed mechanism for moving the pinion gear in the transfer direction by a distance roughly corresponding to half the distance between midpoints of adjacent machining units.

A throttle valve arrangement controls the flow through the intake passages and the selection of the appropriate length for a given running condition.

Several embodiments of induction systems for an internal combustion engine wherein each cylinder is served by a pair of intake passages having significantly different lengths for tuning them for different engine running requirements. A throttle valve arrangement controls the flow through the intake passages and the selection of the appropriate length for a given running condition. Each intake passage is supplied with air from a respective plenum chamber and the plenum chambers are located at different locations within the engine compartment. In all embodiments, one plenum chamber is positioned adjacent the engine and in the embodiments, the other plenum chamber is positioned either at the end of the engine or at the opposite side. Both plenum chambers are supplied with filtered air from a common air cleaner.

A trailing arm suspension for a vehicle includes a suspension arm connected at its inner and outer connecting portions to a suspension member. The outer connecting portion of the arm has a bush designed to cause a greater deflection than the bush provided in the inner connecting portion upon application of an equal radial load to both of the bushes.

Suspension arm mounting

A suspension ball joint mounting mechanism in which a steering knuckle arranged swivelably in the steering operation is forked at its end by a slit. A stud portion of a ball joint stud assembly is passed through the forked portion of the steering knuckle and fastened in position by bolting, the ball portion of the ball joint stud assembly being pivotally supported to a support seat of a suspension arm so that said both portions are able to make a relative movement to each other. A dust cover is provided to sheath the support seat and steering knuckle. A plate washer is disposed between the entire area of the edge ring face of the lip portion of the dust cover and the corresponding face of the steering knuckle to allow smooth relative sliding movements thereof. Thus, the sealing performance of the joint mechanism is improved, while ensuring wear resistance thereof.

Suspension ball joint mounting mechanism

An attachment for a cup shaped ornamental hub cap comprises a resilient clip ring assembled with the hub cap. The clip ring comprises an annular dish spring part clamped to the open inner-end of the hub cap to be axially tiltable and a plurality of spring legs extending radially and inwardly from the inner peripheral edge of the dish spring part adapted to engage with an annular recess on a cylindrical flange of a wheel body, whereby in attaching the hub cap onto the cylindrical flange of the wheel body, the spring legs of the clip are resiliently engaged with the annular recess due to tilting movement of the dish spring part.

Apparatus for mounting a hub cap to a wheel

A shock absorbing type steering device for use in a motor vehicle, comprising a shaft adapted to transmit a torque from a steering wheel to a steering gear, which shaft consists of a first solid shaft portion and a second hollow or cylindrical shaft portion. The second cylindrical shaft portion includes a small diameter portion and a large diameter portion. Part of the first solid shaft portion is rigidly fitted in the aforesaid small diameter portion of the second cylindrical shaft portion with the aid of shear pins, while a shock-absorbing resilient material is contained in the aforesaid large diameter portion of the second cylindrical shaft portion. The shock absorbing material is of such a property that it is ruptured due to stresses exceeding a given level. A passage leading from the interior of the aforesaid large diameter portion of the second cylindrical shaft portion to atmosphere runs either through the first solid shaft portion or through the second cylindrical shaft portion.
