A stator winding of a rotary electric machine includes windings for each pole of each phase being configured by a single layer lap wound coil. The single layer lap-wound coil includes combination coils each configured by two or more divided unit coils of the same phase being disposed one over the other in a radial direction inside slots of a stator core. The combination coils each comprise a first-row unit coil and a second-row unit coil disposed in a radially inner side of the stator core with respect to the first-row unit coil. A turns count of the first-row unit coil equals a turns count of the second-row unit coil. A count of lead wires of the first-row unit coil differs from a count of lead wires of the second-row unit coil.

A method of manufacturing a stator core includes die-cutting iron core materials from a band-shaped magnetic steel sheet and stacking the materials. Each material includes an inner circumference formed with three interconnecting lugs. At least one of the lugs included in one of two rows is located between the materials lengthwise adjacent to each other in the other row. Marginal regions are located in parts of the sheet located between the lugs of the materials adjacent to each other in a lengthwise direction of the sheet in a common row, between the material of the one row and the material of the other row and between the materials to be die-cut and each end of the sheet, respectively. The marginal regions are sized to be approximate to a web width in order to join remaining materials after the materials have been die-cut.

A rotor core includes a rotor core includes a plurality of rotor core blocks each of which is constituted by stacking annular sheet-like core materials in a direction of sheet thickness of each core material and a plurality of catch recesses circumferentially disposed in an inner circumference of each core material at an interval of a predetermined angle so as to extend radially outward, the catch recesses having respective circumferential dimensions equal to each other and different radial depths. In each rotor core block, a plurality of the core materials is stacked while the catch recesses having an identical configuration are aligned. The rotor core blocks have respective outer peripheries which are shifted from each other according to the depths of the catch recesses caught by a bar-shaped aligning jig when the catch recesses of the rotor core blocks are caught by the aligning jig.
