A method of forming a chain of meandering or zig-zag coupling elements for slide fasteners includes dividing or bifurcating a continuous length of substantially cross-sectionally circular monofilamentary material axially into identical halves of substantially semi-circular cross-section immediately prior to introduction to a forming apparatus. The identical halves may be provisionally joined together to provide a cross-sectionally circular monofilament and divided back into respective halves immediately prior to formation thereof into respective rows of coupling elements for slide fasteners.

Method of forming a chain of meandering coupling elements for slide

A coupling element for slide fastener is formed from a monofilamentary material such as polyester, nylon and like thermoplastic resins into a continuous meandering or zig-zag structure having a substantially semi-circular transverse cross-section, the coupling element having a coupling head, an upper leg and a lower leg extending oppositely from said head in parallel spaced apart relation and a heel interconnecting each of the upper and lower legs. The heel is oriented by rotation through 90.degree. or 180.degree. and protrudes at least in part beyond the outer surface of the leg thereby providing increased surface area of the heel for sliding contact with a slider.

A solar energy collector device is disclosed for selectively collecting an electrical energy and a thermal energy at the same time from a solar energy. The device comprises an inorganic-and-metal composite in the form of a roof tile or a wall-forming member which includes a solar battery exposed to sun rays and a heat medium passageway disposed underneath the battery. The density of distribution of a particulate inorganic substance within a metal mass is varied through the areas of the tile or wall member so as to effectively collect the respective energies without adversely affecting the interior conditions of a building in which the device is installed.

An automatic lock slider for a slide fastener includes a locking prong spring-biased to protrude into a Y-shaped guide channel in a slider body. The locking prong is urged downwardly to engage a coupling head of a coupling element in an intermeshing region where the mating pair of coupling elements are brought into and out of intermeshing engagement. The locking prong is urged against the coupling head to effect locking of the slider.

A capped eyelet, for attachment of a snap fastener member to a garment fabric, comprises an eyelet body including a shank with a flange, a cap covering over the flange and secured to a periphery thereof, and at least one punched buffer wing projecting from the flange and having at least one rib. The buffer wing is resiliently deformable to absorb an endwise force applied to the shank when the eyelet is axially compressed for being joined with a snap fastener member. At that time the rib is engageable with the upper end portion of the shank to assist in absorbing the riveting force.

A hook for a hook-and-eye fastener includes a one-piece hook body having at least one pair of prongs, and a retainer having openings through which the prongs extend, respectively. The hook body includes a locking tongue and a base underlying the locking tongue, and an arcuate portion joining the locking tongue and the base, the prongs projecting substantially perpendicularly from the base in a direction away from the locking tongue. The hook body has a plurality of cold-pressed elongated recesses defined in an inner surface of the hook body and extending from the base through the arcuate portion to the locking tongue, thereby giving resilience and strength that are large enough to withstand forces tending to permanently deform the hook body at the arcuate portion. The openings in the retainer are spaced from one another by a distance which is larger than the distance between the prongs. Each of the prongs has a bent end portion retained on the retainer with a space defined therebetween. With the hook thus constructed, the hook body is tiltable with respect to the retainer, thereby accomodating the thrust applied thereto during, for instance, the ironing of a garment fabric to which the hook is attached.

A hook-and-eye assembly includes an eye attached by a first fastener to a first fabric (FA), and a hook attached by a second fastener to a second fabric (FB). The eye has a base plate having a pair of arms projecting laterally from one surface of the base plate and defining an opening therewith, the base plate having a first embossed portion projecting away from the arms and having a center spaced from edges of the arms, the first embossed portion having a pair of first holes divided by a first bridge. The first fastener has a pair of first prongs inserted through the first holes, respectively, and bent around the first bridge with the first embossed portion directed toward the first fastener for positioning the first fabric (FA) therebetween. The hook includes a face plate for insertion into the opening and a back plate spaced therefrom, the back plate having a second embossed portion projecting away from the face plate and having a pair of second holes divided by a second bridge. The second fastener has a pair of second prongs inserted through the second holes, respectively, and bent around the second bridge with the second embossed portion directed toward the second fastener for positioning the second fabric (FB) therebetween.

A button for attachment to a garment fabric comprises a capped button body and a tack member adapted to be joined with the button body, wherein a shank of said tack member includes a free end portion being deformable into a radially uniformly and axially compressed configuration, a radially cold-pressed recessed portion disposed adjacent to said end portion, and a deformation-free stem portion.

A tack member, which is adapted to be joined with a button body for attachment of a button to a garment fabric, has a shank composed of a tapering end portion and a stem portion. The shank has a cold-pressed recess near the tapering end portion. The tapering end portion is in the shape of a pyramid with its tip end disposed off the axis of the shank toward the recess so that the tapering end portion is bendable about the recess as its tip end is forced against the inner side of a cap of the button body during insertion of the shank into a hollow hub of the button body, during which time the stem portion opposes bending or other deformation.

A fluid-tight slide fastener stringer comprising a support tape made of a fluid-tight soft material, and a row of discrete coupling elements mounted on the tape along an inner longitudinal edge portion thereof. Such tape margin is folded so as to provide therealong a contact portion engageable with a corresponding contact portion of a like companion stringer to effect a fluid-tightness between the two stringers. In order to absorb or reduce undue stress exerted on the individual coupling elements, each coupling element has a slot extending parallel to the general plane of the stringer transversely through the whole width of a coupling head portion and also extending longitudinally of the same coupling element through the coupling head portion into a base portion.

A tack member, which is adapted to be joined with a button body for attachment of a button to a garment fabric, has a shank of a hollow and solid combined structure. The shank is composed of a tapering hollow end portion and a solid base portion. The hollow end portion is deformable into a balloon-like shape, radially swelled and axially compressed, as its tip end is forced against a cap of the button body on its inner side during insertion of the shank into a hollow hub of the button body, during which time the solid base portion opposes bending or other deformation.

A stamping apparatus disclosed deforms a filamentary material to provide coupling heads and the like at predetermined intervals along the length of the filament which is to be coiled and attached to stringer tapes for a slide fastener. The apparatus includes a pair of stamping rolls which are rotatable in opposite directions on their own axes simultaneously as they orbit about the axis of a rotor. A ring member rotatably connected to the stamping rolls is driven via the same power source as the rotor but rotates at a slower or faster angular speed than the rotor, the resulting angular speed differential being utilized to effect the rotation of the stamping rolls on their axes.

A bridge top stop for slide fasteners comprising: a body including a sidewall inwardly curved to define a substantially inverted U-shaped opening and a pair of plates connected at one edge by the sidewall, each of the plates including a pair of laterally spaced first and second wing portions extending away from said opening and forming in confronting pair together with the sidewall a pair of grooves for receiving therein the reinforced edges, respectively; a bulged rib projecting from the sidewall into the opening and extending longitudinally along the sidewall; and ridges disposed on the respective free ends of the wing portions and extending longitudinally along the grooves respectively for clamping engagement with the stringer tapes.

A blank rod of metal has a substantially Y-shaped cross section including a pair of V-shaped diverging legs each having a longitudinal rib on midportions of its inner surface. The blank rod is intermittently fed in a longitudinal direction as each of the ribs is pressed by a presser roll having series of die teeth into a succession of projections or teeth longitudinally spaced an interval from each other. The blank rod is then transversely sliced substantially centrally across each tooth on at least one of the legs into a plurality of individual slide fastener coupling elements.

A slide fastener stringer comprising a pair of tapes made essentially of thermoplastic fibers and each tape having a bead extending longitudinally therealong, a series of discrete coupling scoops made of a synthetic resin, each of said scoops having a coupling head, an upper leg and a lower leg, the tape having a longitudinal edge portion including the bead and defining a region mounting the scoops and an opening formed therein and extending closely along the marginal edges of the scoop legs, and a connecting strip formed integrally with the legs and accommodated in the opening and interconnecting the upper and lower legs, the bead having a width in the range of from one-third to two-fifths of the transverse length of the scoop legs.
