The present invention relates to pigment compositions which comprise a wet cake of a pigment whose moisture content is reduced to a range from 2 to 19 wt % while keeping the pigment in the wet cake substantially unchanged in size and shape, and non-agglomerated. The method for preparing such pigment compositions is also disclosed in which the wet cake is dehydrated to have such moisture content as indicated above. The pigment compositions may be dispersed in resins or varnishes to obtain colored resin compositions which have excellent properties.

An azo pigment suitable for use in gravure printing ink is produced by treating 100 parts by weight of a starting azo pigment with from 1 to 30 parts by weight of an amine, from 0.1 to 0.5 equivalent of a fatty acid and/or rosin or a derivative thereof, based on the amine, and from 0.5 to 50 parts by weight of a resin containing carboxyl groups and having an acid value of at least 50. The thus-produced azo pigment may be formulated in gravure printing ink, which exhibits improved gloss, flowability and aging discoloration characteristics. Such an ink practically does not penetrate through even when printed on cheap paper or uncoated paper.

Method of producing an azo pigment suitable for use in a gravure

A phthalocyanine pigment composition comprising (A) 100 parts by weight of phthalocyanine pigment, (B) a specific phthalocyanine derivative and (C) a polyvalent metal salt of an anionic surface-active agent, the compounds (B) and (C) being contained in a molar ratio of 1:0.1-5 and totalling 0.5-30 parts by weight, the pigment composition being useful as a colorant in the preparation of coating materials and printing inks having excellent non-crystallization and non-flocculation as well as satisfactory fluidity, from which coating materials and printing inks are obtained coatings or films having remarkable gloss and high tinting strength.
