The far side airbag system has an airbag which is deployed and inflated between adjacent vehicle seats arranged side-by-side in the width direction when an impact is detected against one of a pair of side wall portions of the vehicle. The airbag includes an upper inflation portion having a portion deployed and inflated on a lateral side of a head portion of an occupant seated in the vehicle seat on a side farther from the specific side wall portion, and a lower inflation portion in which a portion including at least a lower end of the lower inflation portion is deployed and inflated between a console box arranged between the adjacent vehicle seats and the occupant. In the upper inflation portion, the portion positioned on the lateral side of the head portion is deployed and inflated such that a dimension in the width direction increases toward a front side.

Far-side airbag device

An occupant protection device, which protects an occupant seated in a seat, includes: an airbag; and a holder configured to accommodate and hold the folded airbag. The holder is arranged in front of a waist of the occupant seated on the seat. The airbag inflows inflation gas into the inside and inflates so as to protrude from the holder and toward the occupant side, the airbag including: a lower inflation portion configured to cover an upper surface of the thigh; an upper inflation portion which configured to cover a front surface of an upper body; and a cross-inflation portion arranged between the lower inflation portion and the upper inflation portion. A length dimension of the holder is set to a dimension which secures a space for arranging the inflated cross-inflation portion between the waist and the holder when the inflation of the airbag is completed.

Occupant protection device

An occupant protection system for protecting a vehicle occupant sitting in a seat includes a seatbelt that includes a lap belt for arresting the pelvis of the occupant, and an airbag that is stored in the lap belt. The airbag as deployed includes a main inflatable portion for protecting an upper body of the occupant, and a head protecting portion that is located in a vicinity of an upper end of the main inflatable portion for protecting a head of the occupant. The head protecting portion includes a front inflatable portion for covering a front side of the head, and a pair of side inflatable portions that extend rearward from left and right ends of the front inflatable portion for covering sides of the head. Each of the side inflatable portions is configured to be deployed in such a manner that a space is formed between itself and the head.

Occupant protection system

An occupant protection system for protecting a vehicle occupant sitting in a seat includes a seatbelt that includes a lap belt for arresting the pelvis of the occupant, and an airbag disposed in the lap belt. The airbag is coupled to the lap belt in such a manner as to be movable relative to the lap belt in a left and right direction, and includes a main inflatable portion that is deployable in front of upper body of the occupant, and a positioning inflatable portion that protrudes from a lower end region of the main inflatable portion. The positioning inflatable portion includes a contact surface that contacts and is supported by an environmental member which is disposed in a circumference of the lap belt at airbag deployment, whereby helps align a center in the left and right direction of the main inflatable portion generally with that of the upper body.

An occupant protection device, protecting an occupant seated in a seat, includes: a seat belt; and an airbag which is arranged in an area of a lap belt in the seat belt. The airbag includes a bag body and a regulatory tether. A thigh abutment surface abutting on a thigh of the occupant is arranged on a lower surface side of the bag body, and an upper body restraining surface restraining an upper body of the occupant is arranged on a rear surface side. The regulatory tether connects a base end to a rear surface side of an upper-lower intermediate portion of the bag body and connects a tip extending downward from the base end to the lap belt side and a length dimension is set a dimension in which a connecting portion connecting the base end of the bag body can be pulled toward the lap belt side.

An occupant protection device, which protects an occupant seated in a seat, includes: a seat belt; a front airbag device provided with a front airbag which is placed in an area of a lap belt and inflates to cover a front of the occupant when operated; and a seat airbag device provided with a seat airbag which is arranged inside a seat portion in the seat and inflates so as to raise at least a front portion side of the seat portion upward. The front airbag causes inflation gas to flow into the inside and inflates so as to protrude forward and upward when operated and a thigh abutment surface abutting on a thigh of the occupant and an upper body restraining surface restraining an upper body of the occupant are arranged on an outer peripheral surface of the front airbag when the inflation is completed.

An airbag includes a main bag section and a center bag section deployable to protrude towards a vehicle interior out of an inboard side of the main bag section. An inboard-side member, which forms the inboard side of the main bag section, is composed of a front component and a rear component. The center bag section includes a front wall and a rear wall. The front wall is composed of a rear extended region of the front component which is disposed in such a manner as to protrude rearward out of the rear edge of the front component. The rear wall is composed of a front extended region of the rear component which protrudes forward out of the front edge of the rear component and has a generally identical outer contour to the rear extended region. The center bag section is formed by jointing outer edges of the front and rear extended regions.

Airbag device for front passenger seat

In a head-protecting airbag apparatus, an airbag is folded up and housed in a case that is made from synthetic resin and has an inverse U-shaped sectional contour opening downward. The airbag includes a plurality of mounting portions, and the mounting portions are taken out to an outer circumference of the case to be fastened to the vehicle body structure. The case includes a retaining projection that is inserted through a retaining hole formed on the upper rim of the airbag for retaining the upper rim of the airbag, and a retaining tongue that has a cantilever structure so as to be flexible toward an inner side of the case. A section of the airbag in a vicinity of the retaining hole is placed over an outer circumferential surface of the retaining tongue such that the retaining projection is inserted through the retaining hole.

Head-protecting airbag apparatus

An air bag system M includes an air bagwhich can cover a front surfaceside of a front pillarof a vehicle V, an inflator, an air bag cover, a casewhich stores and holds the air bag and the inflator and holds the air bag cover, and boltswhich are provided so as to extend from the case for mounting the air bag system on to an installation portion of a front side door. A portion of an outer reinforcementwhich reinforces an outer panelof the front side door is configured as a mounting portionof the front side door where the bolts are attached, and the air bag system M is installed at a portion of the front side door which lies in proximity to a belt lineon a side facing a vehicle's outer side by the boltsbeing attached to the mounting portionon the outer reinforcement.

Air bag system

In a vehicle pop-up hood apparatus in which a rod is extended and a hood is pushed up by the operation of an actuator at a time of collision with a collision body, collision energy is absorbed with high efficiency when a collision load of a predetermined value or greater is input to an area near a hood pushed up position. Actuator () operates such that rod () moves in an axial direction toward a hood upper side, pushes up a rear edge side of hood rocker () and holds it at that position and, in that state, when a collision load of a predetermined value or greater acts from a hood upper side to near the pushed up position of the hood, push portion () slides along pushed up surface () of hinge arm () towards a vehicle rear side, and rod () is made to bend in conjunction therewith.

Vehicle pop up hood apparatus

An air bag system Mis installed in a vehicle having front side doorswhich are installed adjacent to the rear of front pillarsand which each have an outside rearview mirror. An air bagincludes a pillar covering portionwhich is disposed to cover a front surfaceof the front pillarwhen it completes its inflation and a fitting cell portionwhich is installed below the pillar covering portionand which is disposed so that when it completes its inflation, a rear end side portion thereof fits in a space defined between the outside rearview mirrorand a lateral side of the vehicle on an upper surface side of the outside rearview mirror. The fitting cell portionis connected to a lower edge side of the pillar covering portionover substantially the whole area in a front-rear direction thereof.

The occupant protection system includes a catching body that is housed in a housing located between a near-by seat and a distant seat for upward deployment and a support body that supports the catching body. The catching body covers the impact side of a distant-side occupant to catch the occupant moving toward the impacted lateral and includes a distal end acting as a free end swingable in a left and right direction. The support body is located on a side of the near-by seat close to the impacted lateral for deployment to support the catching body when the catching body swings toward the impacted lateral after receiving the distant-side occupant.

When activated, an actuator causes a piston rod in a cylinder to move forwards so as to support a receiving member for receiving an object to be protected. A lock mechanism for restricting a backward movement of the piston rod includes a lock ring which is accommodated in an accommodating groove on a piston portion and a locking stepped portion on the cylinder side. The locking stepped portion includes a locking and restricting surface and an outer circumferential restricting surface. A taper restricting surface in the accommodating groove on the piston portion is brought into abutment with an inner surface on a forward moving side of the lock ring which is being diametrically expanded as a result of the piston rod having moved forwards and is in abutment with the locking and restricting surface and the outer circumferential restricting surface of the locking stepped portion, whereby the backward movement of the piston rod is restricted by making use of the lock ring which is restricted in the locking stepped portion.

Actuator

A lock mechanism Ris constituted by a diameter enlarging deformed portionarranged at a piston and a locking stepped portioncapable of restricting the rearward movement of the piston. Further, the diameter enlarging deformed portionis locked by the locking stepped portionby being elastically deformed by an elastic force of the diameter enlarging deformed portionper se from a diameter contracting state to a diameter enlarging state when arranged to the locking stepped portionafter moving the piston forward.

A pedestrian protection system is mounted in the front portion of a vehicle, and includes a controller, a forward movement holding mechanism controlled in actuation by the controller, and a contact body that a pedestrian can contact. The controller, when having predicted a collision of a pedestrian with the vehicle based on a signal from a collision predicting sensor, actuates the forward movement holding mechanism to cause a forward movement of the contact body, and based on a signal from a turn sensor when the forward movement holding mechanism carries out an upward rotation or a downward rotation at the time of contact of the forwardly moved contact body with a pedestrian, controls actuation of the restraint body so as to correspond to a pedestrian moving to a front upper side of the vehicle and a pedestrian moving to a front lower side of the vehicle, respectively.
