A particulate-matter detecting sensor including an insulating substrate which has a detecting face, detecting conductors formed in the insulating substrate, and a heating section formed on the insulating substrate. Each detecting conductor includes a detecting electrode part, a terminal part, and a connecting part. A portion of the detecting conductor is constituted of a noble metal conductor mainly formed of at least one noble metal selected from Pt, Au, Pd, Rh and Ir. At least a portion of the connecting part is formed of a low expansion conductor mainly formed of a low expansion coefficient metal having linear expansion coefficient lower than that of the noble metal. Both conductors are joined at an overlapping part at which the noble metal conductor and the low expansion conductor are partly overlapped with each other on an insulating layer forming the insulating substrate in a normal line direction of the insulating layer.

Particulate-matter detecting sensor element

A sensor device includes a housing that has a sensor element inserted therein and holds the sensor element such that a detection unit is positioned at the tip end thereof in the axial direction, and an element cover disposed coaxially with the tip end. A tip surface of the outer cover has a plurality of outer tip surface holes provided outward from positions opposing the outer periphery of an inner tip surface hole. The tip surface of the outer cover includes a central portion which protrudes towards the inner tip surface hole, an outer peripheral portion in which the outer tip surface holes are formed and which is positioned farther toward the tip end than is the central portion, and an inclined surface connects the central portion to the outer tip surface holes.

Sensor device having an element cover including inner and outer covers

A sensor device is equipped with a housing having an element cover retaining a sensor element such that a detection section of the sensor element is positioned at the tip end of the sensor element. The element cover includes an inner cover provided with inner side holes and an inner tip face hole respectively provided therein, and an outer cover provided with outer side holes in a side thereof, with the tip position of the outer side holes located closer to the tip end than is the tip position of the inner cover. Between the outer surface of the inner cover and the inner surface of the outer cover there is a large clearance section at the tip end and a small clearance section at the base end, providing a flow path that is shaped for connecting the large clearance section and the small clearance section without a step.

Sensor device detecting specific component in gas

A sensor device includes an element cover at the tip end of a housing, retaining a sensor element. An outer cover is provided with outer side holes, with the tip position of the outer side holes being farther toward the tip end than is the tip position of an inner cover, and a first flow passage having a gas flow direction that is at right angles to the axial direction is formed at the inner side of the outer cover. An inner side hole in the inner cover is open to a second flow passage provided between the side surfaces of the inner cover and the outer cover, and a detection surface of the sensor element is located on an extension line in an extension direction of a guide member which extends obliquely into the interior of the inner cover from the tip-position edge of the inner side hole.

Sensor device

An SCU as a control device for the gas sensor (first and second NOx sensors) includes an applied voltage switching unit for switching an applied voltage of a pump cell when a deterioration detecting function is performed, and a deterioration rate calculation unit for calculating a deterioration rate of a sensor cell based on a slope during a transient change in an output of the sensor cell according to a switching of the applied voltage by the applied voltage switching unit.

Control device for gas sensor

A gas concentration detection apparatus is provided with a measuring gas chamber, a solid electrolyte body, a pump cell, a sensor cell, a pump cell controller and a sensor cell detection section. The pump cell controller applies an elimination voltage to the pump cell at a start-up point, before a gas concentration is detected. The water in the measuring gas chamber is decomposed and hydrogen is generated by application of the elimination voltage. Oxygen occluded in a sensor electrode of the sensor cell is removed by the hydrogen.

Gas concentration detection apparatus

A gas sensor is equipped with a sensor element which detects a specific gas concentration within a gas that is being measured, a housing having the sensor element disposed in the interior thereof and retained therein, and an element cover disposed at an axial-direction tip end of the housing. The tip of the sensor element is provided with a gas introduction part. The element cover has an inner cover and an outer cover, with a space opened between the inner cover and outer cover. Inner side flow holes provided in the inner cover are disposed closer to an axial-direction base end than is a tapered-diameter step part. The distance between the tip of the sensor element and the inner-side flow holes of the inner cover, with respect to an axial direction, is less than or equal to 1.6 mm.

Gas sensor

A gas sensor is equipped with a solid electrolyte body, a pump electrode, a sensor electrode, and a heater. In the gas sensor, a region of the whole of a front end portion of a heater base in which a heating element is disposed is broken down into three regions: an intermediate region defined between a front end and a base end of the sensor electrode, a front end region located closer to a front end side than the intermediate region is, and a base end region located closer to a base end side than the intermediate region is. A resistance value per unit area of a heating element lying in the base end region and a resistance value per unit area of the heating element lying in the front end region is selected to be higher than that of the heating element lying in the intermediate region, thereby keeping the temperature of a region around the sensor electrode at a desired level even when the temperature of gas changes.

A sensor element which has a pair of positive and negative detection electrodes disposed on a surface of an insulation body as a detecting portion and a cover body configured to cover an opening of a cylindrical housing. The cover body is provided with gas inlet and outlet holes via which the measuring gas is introduced and discharged. The pair of detection electrodes have a plurality of wire electrodes. The wire electrodes electrically connected to the positive electrode and the wire electrodes electrically connected to the negative electrode are alternately arranged in parallel. Any one of a first insulation layer which is a narrow electrode interval Dn and a second insulation layer which is a wide electrode interval Dw, arranged between adjacent wire electrodes, and the first insulation layer arranged in a center part of the detecting portion.

Particulate matter detection sensor

A gas sensor device is equipped with the sensor cell, the pump cell, the inner void space, and the gas inlet. The sensor cell is created by a portion of the solid electrolyte body and a pair of sensor electrodes disposed on the solid electrolyte body. The pump cell is created by a portion of the solid electrolyte body and a pair of pump electrodes disposed on the solid electrolyte body. The inner void space faces the sensor electrode and the pump electrode. If a dimension of said gas inlet in a direction in which the measurement gas flows in the gas inlet is defined as L, a sectional area of the gas inlet taken perpendicular to the direction of flow of the measurement gas in the gas inlet is defined as S, a distance between the gas inlet and the sensor cell is defined as L, and a sectional area of the inner void space taken perpendicular to a direction in which the pump cell and the sensor cell are aligned with each other is defined as S, a relation of 1000&#x2264;(L/S)&#xd7;(L/S)&#x2264;5000 is met.

Gas sensor device

An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for an internal combustion engine, in which a NOx absorbing catalyst and a NOx concentration sensor for detecting a NOx concentration in exhaust gases of the engine, are provided in an exhaust passage of the engine. A rich spike for temporarily enriching the air-fuel ratio is performed, and an execution timing of the rich spike is determined based on a detected output from the NOx concentration sensor. Performing the rich spike is determined to be unnecessary during a reducing state period from the time the rich spike ends to the time a preset time period has elapsed, and is also determined to be unnecessary when a change tendency of the detected output is determined to be an output decreasing state where the detected output is decreasing. The execution timing of the rich spike is determined using the detected output when the change tendency is determined to be an output staying/increasing state where the detected output is staying at a constant value or increasing after the end timing of the reducing state period.

Exhaust gas purifying apparatus for internal combustion engine

An apparatus for detecting particulate and a correction method of the apparatus for detecting particulate matter that detects particulate matter within a gas to be measured are provided. The correction method corrects the individual differences inevitably occurring during the manufacturing process of particulate matter detection sensors. The apparatus for detecting particulate matter includes an applied voltage correction means. The applied voltage correction means applies correction information acquired by the correction method to detection control.
