The head-up display apparatus includes: a display unit configured to output projection light; at least one reflector configured to reflect the projection light; a housing, which has an opening portion, and is configured to store the display unit and the reflector therein; a cover member configured to cover the opening portion; and a polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which is arranged on a housing inner side of the cover member, and includes a retardation layer and a polarizer in the stated order from a cover member side. The retardation layer has an in-plane retardation Re(550) of 3,000 nm or more. The head-up display apparatus is configured so that an angle of reflection of the projection light output from the housing through the opening portion with respect to a windshield is 30° or less, or is 40° or more.

Head-up display apparatus

A head-up display apparatus that is excellent in viewability. A head-up display apparatus according to an embodiment of the present invention includes: a display unit configured to emit projection light, the display unit including a display cell, and a first polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which is arranged on an emission side of the display cell, and which includes a polarizer and a first retardation layer in the stated order from a display cell side; at least one reflector configured to reflect the projection light; and a second polarizing plate with a retardation layer, which is arranged on a reflection surface of the reflector, and which includes a polarizer and a second retardation layer in the stated order from a reflector side. The first retardation layer and the second retardation layer each have an in-plane retardation Re(550) of from 100 nm to 200 nm.

Provided is a head-up display apparatus that is excellent in viewability when a display screen is viewed through a pair of polarized sunglasses, and is excellent in heat resistance. The head-up display apparatus includes: a display unit configured to output projection light; at least one reflector configured to reflect the projection light; a housing, which has an opening portion, and is configured to store the display unit and the reflector therein; a cover member configured to cover the opening portion; and a polarizing plate arranged on a housing inner side of the cover member. The cover member has an in-plane retardation Re(550) of 3,000 nm or more. The head-up display apparatus is configured so that an angle of reflection of the projection light output from the housing through the opening portion with respect to a windshield is 30&#xb0; or less, or is 40&#xb0; or more.

A refractive index nzin a thickness direction of the first optical compensation layer is less than 1.5187, and a refractive index nzin a thickness direction of the second optical compensation layer is less than 1.5340.

There is provided an optical laminate that can achieve a liquid crystal display apparatus in which the occurrence of moire is suppressed, and which is excellent in brightness and viewing angle characteristic. An optical laminate of the present invention includes in the stated order: a polarizer; a light-diffusing pressure-sensitive adhesive layer; a matte layer; and a louver layer. The louver layer has light-transmitting portions each having a trapezoidal section arrayed along a film plane, and light-absorbing portions each having a trapezoidal section arrayed between the light-transmitting portions. An object of the present invention is to provide an optical laminate that can achieve an excellent reflection hue and an excellent viewing angle characteristic. An optical laminate of the present invention includes a polarizer; a retardation layer configured to substantially function as a &#x3bb;/4 plate; and a light-diffusing layer. The polarizer has a hue a of from &#x2212;1.2 to 0 and a hue b of from 0 to 3.0.
