The present invention relates to an image display device and a method of manufacturing the image display device that make it possible to form pixels with a smaller number of sub-pixels as compared with a case where one pixel is formed so as to separately include one each of sub-pixels of three colors of R, G, and B, and make full-color display by making the sub-pixels emit light by time division. The present invention can provide an image display device that makes it possible to reduce the number of sub-pixels and form pixels at a high density by sharing respective sub-pixels between pixels and displaying the sub-pixels by time division and thus realize high picture quality and reduction in the number of parts.

Image display apparatus and manufacturing method thereof

A method of producing an image display unit includes the steps of: forming, on a wafer, a display element layer composed of display elements arrayed on a specific cycle and provided with a magnetic film, and separating the display element layer into the individual display elements with magnetic film portions while keeping the array of the display elements; selecting, of all of the display elements, those located discretely at specific intervals of a value equivalent to an integer-fold of the specific cycle, and magnetizing the magnetic film portions provided on the selected display elements in such a manner that the magnetic film portions provided on the selected display units are magnetically distinguishable from the magnetic film portions provided on the non-selected display elements; and magnetically attracting the selected display elements while keeping the specific intervals thereof, and transferring the selected display elements onto a mounting board. The method may further include the step of repeating the selective magnetization step and the mounting step, to array all of the display elements at the specific intervals on the mounting board. With this method, the handling of fine LED pellets can be improved.

Image display unit and production method thereof

A method of producing an image display unit with improved handling of small LED pellets. The method includes an element formation step, a selective magnetization step, and a mounting step. The selective magnetization step and mounting step improves LED pellet placement as opposed to the typical mounting step, which includes using dielectric pads and conductive paste.

A plane display unit using LEDs without letting the colors of the individual pixels appear separately or without letting the pixels appear as a set of visible dots even when the screen displaying an image or a character is viewed in close range, and a plane display device using the same. Pixels having light-emitting surfaces of a square shape that is inclined by 45&deg; are arranged on a substrate in a direction inclined toward the right and in a direction inclined toward the left with the sides of the light-emitting surfaces being opposed to each other. The shape and size of the surface of the substrate are selected to be the same as the shape and size of the contours of the light-emitting surfaces of all pixels on the substrate. The pixels are formed by covering plural LEDs of different colors with a transparent material in which a light-scattering material is contained.

Image display and its pixel arrangement method

A video display apparatus has a dot matrix of LEDs mounted on an LED matrix board, and a unitary reflecting member made of metal such as aluminum or the like mounted on the LED matrix board. The reflecting member has slanted reflecting surfaces disposed vertically one on each side of each of the LEDs for reflecting light emitted from the LEDs with narrow vertical directivity. The video display apparatus can provide a wide angle of view in the horizontal direction, and a narrow angle of view in the vertical direction for preventing light from being scattered in the vertical direction to maintain a desired level of luminosity.

Video display apparatus

A light apparatus disclosed is high in utilization factor of light, simple in structure and suitable for mass production. The light apparatus includes a hollow single-part reflecting plate (11) having a spheroidal mirror on an inner face thereof and a discharge tube (13) mounted at a forward opening of the reflecting plate. The discharge tube has a double layer tube structure consisting of an elongated light emitting tube (16) and an outer tube (18) surrounding the light emitting tube. A reflecting face (26) is formed on the outer tube such that it connects to the spheroidal mirror to form a closed spheroidal face. The reflecting face is formed by mounting a cold mirror on a surface of the outer tube, and a light extracting portion (25) is formed on an outer wall of the outer tube by mounting a cold filter thereat. Light reflected from the light emitting tube is repetitively reflected by the reflecting plate and the reflecting face so that almost all of the light is discharged through the light extracting portion.

Light apparatus

A CRT-matrix type big screen display system having self-emitting type picture cells is provided with a deflection waveform as a sawtooth waveform and a deflection waveform in the other direction as a step deflection waveform crossing the picture cells. Inclination of the scanning line is eliminated so that fluctuations in display brightness thereto are avoided and a satisfactory picture display is achieved. Also in CRT-matrix type big-screen display systems, index elements or cells are provided between sets of primary color cells and in the scanning direction. At least at the start of the scanning operation, the index elements or cells are scanned and the positional information thereof is stored in a memory for use in processing a video signal to achieve a satisfactory picture display. Furthermore, prior to reproducing a picture, a photo pickup equipment is slidably moved across the big screen and positional information of primary color cells sensed thereby is stored in a memory, which positional information is used in processing a video signal so that a satisfactory picture is displayed.

A large area display has a plurality of cathode ray tubes mounted adjacent each other in X, Y matrix and each cathode ray tube includes a plurality of pixels arranged in an X, Y matrix on a front panel and each pixel comprises three horizontally extending stripe-shaped luminous elements aligned in the vertical direction and the front panel of the cathode ray tube is formed with a thinner portion adjacent its outer edge where it joins to the funnel to reduce the spacing between adjacent cathode ray tubes to a minimum to allow the pixels to be viewed over a wider angle.

A flat type cathode ray tube is disclosed which includes a flat envelope formed of a flat panel and a dish-shaped funnel, a first deflection system composed of a back electrode and a phosphor screen which are both located within the envelope in opposing relation with each other, a neck portion coupled to the envelope, the neck portion extending in the surface direction of the flat envelope having therein an electron gun, and a second deflection system formed of electro-static deflection plates which are so located within the envelope that they oppose each other across the path of the electron beam emitted from the electron gun to the first deflection system with respect to a thickness direction of the flat envelope. In this case, a projecting portion is provided from the peripheral portion of the funnel for molding material.

A grid structure for a color cathode ray tube comprises a substantially rectangular, one-piece frame consisting of a pair of first opposed frame portions and a pair of second opposed frame portions orthogonally related to the first frame portions and being integral with the latter at ends thereof, and grid elements secured to the first frame portions and extending therebetween generally parallel to the second frame portions in a longitudinally stressed condition, the second frame portions having at least recesses therein for enhancing the resilient bending thereof under loads applied to the first frame portions in directions urging the latter toward each other.

Grid structure for color cathode ray tube

A flat thermionic cathode is provided with a substrate having at least one main heating element thereon to produce at least one substantially localized area of heat and a sub-heating element to substantially define a heating area, the localized area being produced within the heating area. A cathode element including electron emissive material is disposed at the localized area. While the localized area tends to produce a temperature gradient directed from the localized area toward the perimeter of the substrate so as to create thermal stress in the substrate along the perimeter thereof, the sub-heating element reduces this temperature gradient and, consequently, the thermal stress.
