A projection display apparatus for expanding and projecting an image, which is formed by an optical modulator, using a projection lens. A light source illuminates the optical modulator. A first lens array divides light emitted from the light source into a plurality of partial luminous fluxes. A second lens array superimposes the plurality of partial luminous fluxes emitted from the first lens array onto the optical modulator. A diaphragm mechanism is disposed between the light source and the optical modulator, and controls an amount of light from the light source. A traveling direction of the light emitted from the light source is defined as a Z-axis, a direction perpendicular to the Z-axis is defined as an X-axis, and a direction perpendicular to a plane formed by the Z-axis and the X-axis is defined as a Y-axis. An area of an opening of the diaphragm mechanism changes in a direction of the X-axis or the Y-axis.

With a trend toward a higher intensity projection type liquid crystal display device to further increase brightness of a projection screen, rated input power of a light source lamp increases, which makes essential a fan apparatus for cooling the light source lamp, etc. Such a fan apparatus would require a light-shielding member which causes the number of parts to increase. The present invention provides a fan apparatus provided with a rotor section that can be rotated/driven around a predetermined rotation axis and a propeller section including propeller blades and attached to the rotor section arranged in such a way as to substantially shield light parallel to the rotation axis.

A liquid crystal display (LCD) projector in which temperature rise of the polarizing plate is reduced and the liquid crystal display panels and polarizing plates are easily retained in place. In the LCD projector, at least one of the incident light side polarizing plate and the exit light side polarizing plate has a first polarizing plate disposed on the incident light side of a glass substrate and a second polarizing plate disposed on the exit light side of the glass substrate. The first polarizing plate has a low degree of polarization and the second polarizing plate has a high degree of polarization and the polarizing plates are arranged to have their axes of transmission polarization coincident. The temperature rise due to absorption of light is shared by the first and second polarizing plates and this contributes to reduction in size of the projector.

Liquid crystal display projector

A light source, a color separator, a plurality of liquid crystal panels, a polarizing plate, a color synthesizing optical unit, and a projecting lens are disposed. The color synthesizing optical unit includes an X prism, a bonding base, a panel retaining member, and a panel installing member. The panel retaining member is fixed on the bonding base. The liquid crystal panels and the polarizing plate are installed on the panel installing member. The panel installing member can be separated from the panel retaining member. By this configuration, deviation of the convergence can be prevented with respect to the liquid crystal panels. Further, in practical use, it is easy to replace or repair the liquid crystal panel or the polarizing plate.

A front liquid crystal display projector includes a housing having an exhaust port and a projection opening, an optical block, installed in the housing, having a light source, a reflection mirror, a light separator, an image display unit using liquid crystal, an image combining unit, a projection lens, and an exhaust fan installed between the light source and the exhaust port. The reflection mirror changes the direction of the light from the light source, and the projection lens and the light source are disposed parallel to each other. The exhaust port and the projection opening are provided at a first side of the housing. An image formed by the optical block is projected from the first side and from the projection opening, and air in the housing is discharged from the exhaust port and also from the first side. In addition, the exhaust port prevents stray light from the light source, which exits the exhaust port, from overlapping the image projected from the projection opening.

Front liquid crystal display projector

Light from a light source is divided into P-and S-polarized beams by means of a polarizing beam splitter and converted into the same polarized wave. Two polarized waves are incident on a liquid crystal panel symmetrically at the same angle on right and left sides. An integrator comprising two lens arrays is disposed before and behind these polarization converting elements, and therefore brightness can be uniformly increased with a simple construction while achieving space saving.

LCD Projector

A nut 13 is provided on a holding board 9 of a barrel 8 housing a projection lens. At both sides of a holding base 11 are supporting plates 12 having a stepping shape for presenting a sliding gap, and the holding board 9 is inserted in the sliding gap. At an upper corner of the holding base 11 is a pivot pedestal 14, and a shift rod 15 is attached revolvable to the pivot pedestal 14, the shift rod 15 having a screw portion 16 that engage with the nut 13. The projection lens moves up and down driven via nut 13 by revolution of the shift rod 15, for the height adjustment of projection lens.

A liquid crystal display projector comprising a light source, a group of mirrors, liquid crystal display devices, a projection lens, a main body containing the light source, group of mirrors, liquid crystal display devices and projection lens, and a mechanism whereby the projection lens is allowed to retract into and protrude from the main body. The projection lens comprises an outer cylinder having a ring-like shape; a drive motor with a gear; a ring-like intermediate cylinder with a first cam groove, second cam groove and gearwork provided on the exterior thereof with the gearwork meshing with the gear of the drive motor and is installed on the inner side of the outer cylinder so as to be made movable by sliding; a first inner cylinder having a first axis to fit in the first cam groove and fits with the inner surface of the intermediate cylinder in the front portion thereof so as to be movable by sliding according to the movement of the first axis caused by the rotation of the first cam groove; a second inner cylinder having a second axis to fit in the second cam groove and fits toward the back of the inner surface of the intermediate cylinder so as to be movable by sliding according to the movement of the second axis caused by the rotation of the second cam groove; and a plurality of lenses installed in the cylinders at specified positions. The projection lens operates such that driving of the drive motor causes the intermediate cylinder to rotate and the rotation of the intermediate cylinder allows the projection lens to zoom by extending and retracting the first inner cylinder.
