The present invention has its object to provide a direct hemoperfusion adsorber packed with an adsorbent made by using a water-insoluble carrier having a relatively readily available particle size distribution, with water-insoluble microparticles having been removed therefrom, without needing any special granulation apparatus or coating apparatus, and method of obtaining a direct hemoperfusion adsorbent having water-insoluble microparticles removed therefrom. Now, a direct hemoperfusion adsorber has been obtained that is packed with an adsorbent having a number average particle diameter of not smaller than 300 &#x3bc;m but not larger than 600 &#x3bc;m, with the coefficient of variance in particle diameter distribution being not lower than 10% but not higher than 20%, and having water-insoluble microparticles removed therefrom to a safe level, without the loss of the adsorbent, by using a water-insoluble microparticle-removing-mesh such that the ratio of the mesh opening size for removing water-insoluble microparticles to the mesh opening size of the adsorber is not lower than 1.3 but not higher than 1.5.

The present invention provides a peptide which selectively adsorbs an anti-&#x3b2;1 adrenoreceptor antibody being one of the contributing factors in dilated cardiomyopathy. The peptide of the invention can be immobilized on a carrier in a short period of time with rarely inducing side reactions, and adsorbent for adsorbing an anti-&#x3b2;1 adrenoreceptor antibody can be produced with good efficiency by using the peptide. In addition, the present invention provides an adsorbent comprising such peptide immobilized on a carrier, an adsorber wherein such adsorbent is used, and a method for adsorbing an anti-&#x3b2;1 adrenoreceptor antibody. The adsorbent and adsorber according to the invention can efficiently deprive an anti-&#x3b2;1 adrenoreceptor antibody-containing liquid, in particular body fluid, of the antibody.

An adsorbent which comprises a water-insoluble carrier and a compound, which is immobilized on said carrier, having a binding affinity for an antibody against &#x3b2;1-adrenoceptor and/or an antibody against M2 muscarinic receptor exhibits a remarkably large adsorptive capacity.

The present invention provides an adsorbent, adsorption unit, and an adsorption method which make it possible to selectively adsorb an immunoglobulin and/or an immune complex present in a body fluid (for example, blood, plasma, etc.) efficiently without pretreating the body fluid. By immobilizing a compound having binding activity for an immunoglobulin and/or an immune complex on a water-insoluble carrier, an adsorbent having remarkably excellent adsorption capacity may be obtained.

Peptide, novel adsorbent, adsorption unit and adsorption method

Immobilization of SH group-containing compounds on a solvent-insoluble support is carried out in the presence of an antioxidant to prevent oxidation of SH groups to S&mdash;S bonds. This improves immobilization efficiency and suppresses deterioration of inherent characteristics of the SH group-containing compound. Antioxidants include sodium pyrosulfite (sodium disulfite), sodium sulfite, sodium hydrogensulfite, sodium hydrosulfite and L-ascorbic acid. SH group-containing compounds include cysteine, peptides or proteins containing cysteine and thiol compounds such as ethanethiol, aminoethanethiol, benzylthiol and thiophenol. Preferably, the SH group-containing compound has a molecular weight not more than 3&times;10,. The support may be activated by a functional group such as glycidyl, imidocarbonato, tosyl, tresyl, carboxyl, amino, azido or hydroxyl. The support can be inorganic such as glass beads or organic such as a synthetic polymer or a polysaccharide.
