A display apparatus includes pixels arranged in a two-dimensional matrix pattern, each of which including a light-emitting unit and a drive circuit that drives the unit and includes a comparator circuit that compares a control pulse with potential based on signal voltage and outputs predetermined voltage based on the result, a transistor driving the unit in response to the predetermined voltage, and a current source that supplies current to the unit during driving of the transistor, includes a current-source transistor, a capacity unit connected to a gate electrode of the current-source transistor, a differential amplifier that detects a differential between voltage based on reference constant current and reference voltage, and a transistor controlling the voltage based on reference constant current depending on current flowing through the current-source transistor, and controls gate potential of the current-source transistor on the basis of output of the amplifier in synchronization with a scanning signal.

A display device includes: horizontal scan lines; vertical scan lines; an electro-optical element disposed at each of positions where the horizontal scan lines and the vertical scan lines intersect and selectively turned on based on a video signal and a vertical scan signal; a defect information storing section that stores defect information indicating whether each of the electro-optical elements has a defect; and a video signal generating section that generates a video signal to be supplied to the electro-optical element in each position based on a video signal supplied from outside and the defect information, wherein the video signal generating section supplies a video signal to the electro-optical elements such that the supply of a level required for turning on an element is stopped for an electro-optical element having a defect and the video signal supplied from the outside is supplied to an electro-optical element having no defect.

A backlight for illuminating the back of a display section includes a plurality of light sources disposed in positions corresponding to a display area of the display section; a diffusion member configured to transmit light from the light sources to the display section; a photo-sensor; a light guiding member configured to introduce the light from the light sources to the photo-sensor for detection; and an arithmetic operation processing section configured to calculate the luminance or chromaticity of each of the light sources from the luminance or chromaticity detected by the photo-sensor.

A deflection yoke has a horizontal deflection coil and a saturable reactor connected to the horizontal deflection coil. The inductance of the saturable reactor is variable depending on a horizontal deflecting current flowing through the horizontal deflection coil or a vertical deflecting current supplied to the deflection yoke for varying a field distribution of a deflecting magnetic field produced by the horizontal deflection coil depending on the horizontal deflecting current or the vertical deflecting current.
