A clutch mechanism for a fishing reel having a spool and a spool shaft supported at both ends by a pair of side plates. a handle for rotating the spool and spool shaft is engaged through a drive gear to a pinion gear. The pinion gear is slideably mounted on the spool shaft and the device includes clutch means on the spool shaft to engage and disengage the pinion gear with the spool shaft by moving the pinion gear axially on the spool shaft. A clutch cam moves the pinion gear axially and an operating lever is linked to the clutch cam for disengaging the pinion gear from the spool shaft. Rotation of the handle in a first direction causes the pinion gear to engage the spool shaft and an operating lever is rotatably supported on a shaft extending between the side plates of the fishing reel.

A water depth measuring device for a fishing reel has a mounting seat integrally provided on an upper portion of a reel body. A main section of the measuring device is integrally formed and includes a watertight compartment housing electrical components such as a sensor, a controller, an indicator, a sound maker, and a power supply. A rotation detection section of the measuring device is provided in a projecting case mounted on the reel body and includes a roller mechanism having a magnet attached thereto. A roller included in the roller mechanism is biased into contact with a fishline wound on the fishing reel to rotate upon cast of the fishline from the fishing reel to cause rotation of the magnet and the generation of a flux signal. The sensor in the main section of the measuring device detects the flux signal and an indication of the length of the fishline cast is displayed on the indicator. The sound maker provides an audible signal indicating the cast of a selected length of fishline. The main section and rotation transmitting section are separately mounted on the reel body.

A fishing spinning reel having reverse-rotation-preventing mechanism comprising a plastic spring press-fitted on a master gear shaft and having a protrusion extending radially therefrom to engage a recess formed in a reverse-rotation-preventing pawl pivotally mounted on the reel body, so that the pawl engages a ratchet formed on a rotor-supporting cylindrical shaft when the handle is turned in the reverse direction and disengages from the ratchet when the handle is turned in the forward direction.

In a clutch mechanism for use in a fishing reel, one end of a torsion spring is connected to a flipping cam which is rotated between a pair of pins. When the flipping cam positions at one of the pins, the torsion spring biases the clutch mechanism selectively to its ON and OFF states depending upon the state of the clutch mechanism. On the other hand, when the flipping cam positions at the other one of the pins, the torsion spring continuously biases the clutch mechanism to its ON state irrespective of the state of the clutch mechanism. Thus, in the latter condition, the clutch mechanism is shifted and held at its OFF state only during when a force exceeding the biasing force of the torsion spring continues to be applied to the clutch mechanism, and immediately when the force is removed, the clutch mechanism automatically returns to its ON state by the biasing force of the torsion spring.

A backlash prevention adjustment mechanism for a backlash prevention device includes a first magnet, a second magnet, and a nonmagnetic electroconductive member provided therebetween, being rotatable with a spool shaft, and having an eddy current induced therein by the first and second magnet to provide a braking force for the spool to prevent backlash. A motor is provided to move the first magnet relative to the second magnet to change the level of the eddy current. A lever is also provided to manually move the first magnet with respect to the second magnet. In another aspect, a shielding yoke is provided on the first magnet and is movable therewith to position a slit in the yoke proximate a first magnetism sensor or a second magnetism sensor to detect positions thereof corresponding to maximum and minimum levels of the eddy current.

Backlash prevention adjustment mechanism for a fishing reel

The spinning reel of the present invention pertains to a sliding mechanism which allows for the reduction in size and weight of the reel and an increase in the reciprocation stroke of the spool without a decrease in the winding force of the reel on the turning force of the rotor. That is, the sliding pin of the invention is located closer to the master gear than the conventional sliding mechanism.

In a double-bearing reel with a level wind mechanism in which the handle can be set either on the right or on the left, a drag mechanism is so designed that a handle shaft with a drag handle at one end can be inserted into a hollow traverse cam shaft from both ends and which is held between side frames in a manner as to be opposite openings formed in side covers, and a drag control nut is detachably engaged with one end of the transverse cam shaft the other end of which supports the master gear of a drive mechanism and drag mechanism in such a manner that the drag control nut is nonrotatable with respect to the drag handle but movable in the forward direction, whereby the handle is turned in the forward direction to increase the drag force regardless of whether the reel is operated with the handle on the right or the left of the reel.

In the fishline holder, the holding member support portion has a through hole with a first diameter portion continuous to a larger second diameter portion or recess. The stem of the fishline holding member is slideably positioned in the through hole. A groove is provided at the lower end of the stem of the holding member. The fishline holding spring is engaged in the groove of the stem and the ends of the spring are supported on the inside surface of the outer wall of the body of the fishing reel or the inside surface of the holding member support. Since the holding spring engaged in the groove serves not only to hold the holding member from coming off, an exclusive component part for preventing the holding member from coming off does not need to be provided. Also, the fishline holder can be easily assembled and the cost of manufacturing is reduced.

A double-bearing reel with a level wind mechanism wherein a drag mechanism is so designed that the traverse cam shaft of the level wind mechanism supports the master gear of a drive mechanism and drag brake and has both ends confronted with openings formed in the side covers of the reel, and rotatably supported by the side frames of the reel, and that a handle shaft connected to the handle of the reel is detachably inserted into the traverse cam shaft from either end in such a manner that it is non-rotatable with respect to the traverse cam shaft, and a drag control ring and a drag handle are mounted on the handle shaft and engaged with each other in such a manner that they are movable relative to each other, whereby the drag brake can be tightened by turning the drag handle in the forward direction of rotation of the handle not only when the reel is operated with the handle on the right but also when the reel is operated with the handle on the left.

A device for preventing fishing line backlash in a double-bearing type fishing reel wherein a spool is loaded by magnetic induction to prevent the backlash. The device is so constructed that magnet rings are located inside and outside of an electric conductive ring fixed to a spool shaft. One of the magnetic rings is rotated by an adjusting disc having a guide slot to engage a lug on the rotated ring to adjust the magnetic induction brake force for the spool.

A drag control mechanism for use in a fishing reel of the type wherein a drag mechanism is mounted on a handle shaft to apply a drag force against a master gear comprises a drag control member mounted on the handle shaft, a drag pawl which engages or disengages from the drag control member, a reverse rotation preventing pawl which engages the ratchet wheel and a drag switch swingable between its ON and OFF states. When the drag switch is in its ON state, the drag pawl engages the drag control member to prevent the rotation thereof and the reverse rotation pawl disengages from the ratchet wheel to permit the reverse rotation of the shaft, so that the drag force of the drag mechanism is controlled by the movement of the drag control member relative to the shaft upon the rotation of the handle. When the drag switch is in its OFF state, the drag pawl disengages from the drag control member to permit its rotation with the shaft and the reverse rotation preventing pawl re-engages the ratchet wheel to prevent the reverse rotation of the shaft.

A spinning-type fishing reel having an improved bail changeover mechanism providing a light weight and simple reel construction while achieving high reliability and eliminating sources of line tangle. A bail arm is pivoted on a pair of opposed arms provided on a rotor in such a manner that the bail arm automatically returns from a line-releasing position to a line-rewinding position upon rotation of the rotor. A gear transmitting mechanism is linked with a bail-arm lever via a link mechanism having a plurality of links arranged so as to provide a dead point. A follower gear, rotatably linked with the link mechanism, is provided with a pin urged in the return direction of the bail arm by a spring. All members of the bail changeover mechanism are attached to the rotor and arranged such that a bail arm changeover cam and the pin block each other's movement in the line-releasing position of the bail arm.

A clutch releasing and braking mechanism for a below-the-rod double-bearing type fishing reel having a simplified and compact construction. An operating lever of the reel is pivotally mounted on a frame member of the reel, and a cam portion, rotatable with the operating lever, is provided at the pivot point of the operating lever. The cam portion engages with and operates a braking mechanism. A clutch operating lever, which may be formed as a separate lever and connected to the operating lever via a rotary shaft or as a rearward extension of the operating lever, has a clutch-operating pin at its outward end. The clutch-operating pin engages a second clutch lever, the latter having a pin which directly operates the clutch mechanism.
