A liquid crystal display apparatus is provided in which crosstalk (after-image extending from a line displayed on the screen) is eliminated. Drive circuitry used in the above type of apparatus is also provided. A delay circuit divides an alternating-current (AC) signal generated by an alternating-current (AC) signal circuit into two signals, i.e., a common AC signal (DF COM) and a segment AC signal (DF SEG). One signal is delayed later than the other. When the common AC signal is delayed later than the segment AC signal, white crosstalk (which is a white bar having a brightness level higher than a white background, appearing on the line extending from a narrow black bar displayed on the screen) is eliminated from the screen. On the other hand, when the segment AC signal is delayed later than the common AC signal, black crosstalk (which is a black bar having a brightness level slightly lower than a white background, emerging on the line extending from a thick black bar displayed on the screen) is removed from the screen. An integrating circuit or a delay line is employed as a delay function of the delay circuit.

Disclosed herein is a liquid crystal display which can eliminate the nonuniformity of display contrast due to a difference in wiring resistance between electrode terminals of a liquid crystal panel. Two adjacent ones of the electrode terminals which are respectively connected to two adjacent ones of tape carriers are set substantially equal in length. Furthermore, two adjacent ones of the electrode terminals which are respectively connected to two of lead wires adjacent to each other with a lead pitch increased area interposed therebetween are set substantially equal in length.

A liquid crystal display in which an LCD is protected against the influence of static electricity or noise, and the color shading in the peripheral part of the display area of the LCD is suppressed. A ground terminal is provided in the area between the electrode terminals 5a and 5b of the LCD 1, the electrode terminals being adjacently positioned and connected to different flexible substrates 6 and 6. The ground terminal is electrically independent of the electrode terminal group 5's, and has a similar shape to that of the area between two electrode terminals. A ground pattern 13, which is independent of the lead pattern group 8's and connected to the ground terminal 12, is provided on each flexible substrate 6. The ground pattern 13 is grounded through a printed circuit board.

A method of connecting a liquid crystal display element and a flexible circuit board to each other by which electrode terminals of the flexible circuit board and lead terminals of the flexible circuit board are registered accurately with each other after connection. According to this method, the terminal pitch of the electrode terminals of the liquid crystal display element is represented by P, the terminal pitch of the lead electrodes before a pressurizing and heating step is represented by p, and the elongation percentage of a base film of the flexible circuit board by the pressurizing and heating step is represented by .alpha., either one of the terminal pitches P and p is set in advance relative such that the relationship of P=(1+.alpha.)p may be satisfied.
