The present disclosure relates to an image processing device that reduces the computation load in image processing, an image processing method, and a program. A rough-detection component detecting unit detects markers shown in an image. A marker selecting unit selects a predetermined number of markers from among the markers detected by the rough-detection component detecting unit. A specific-detection component detecting unit detects the predetermined number of markers selected by the marker selecting unit in a more specific manner than the rough-detection component detecting unit. An estimating/processing unit estimates positions and postures of the markers based on results of the detection performed by the specific-detection component detecting unit. The present technique can be applied to an image processing device that combines the background of a person captured by a camera with another background image.

A photographing apparatus includes a position estimation unit and a photographing control unit. The position estimation unit is configured to use a long-term template of a target to be tracked and a short-term template of the target to be tracked, which are created from a past taken image, to estimate a position of the target to be tracked in a current taken image. The long-term template is a template updated at a longer interval, and the short-term template is a template updated at a shorter interval. The photographing control unit is configured to control photographing on the basis of the position estimated by the position estimation unit.

There is provided an image processing device including a feature point extraction unit that extracts feature points from an input image, a feature amount calculation unit that calculates feature amounts of the feature points, an image processing unit that processes the marker image to transform the feature amounts of non-distinguishing feature points into feature amounts of distinguishing feature points when the feature points extracted from a marker image included in the input image are not distinguishing, and a marker image generation unit that generates a new marker image based on the processing result.

An image processing device includes: an estimated plane calculation portion calculating, for inputted image data, estimated planes defined by luminance values in blocks each containing a predetermined number of pixels including a reference pixel; an optimal estimated plane selection portion selecting an optimal estimated plane having a least summation of errors between luminance values of respective pixels in a block and an estimated plane among the estimated planes; a weighting factor calculation portion calculating a weighting factor for the reference pixel base on luminance values of the reference pixel and in the optimal estimated plane; and a weighted smoothing portion computing a sum of products of relative luminance differences between the luminance values of the respective pixels in the block and in the optimal estimated plane and the weighting factor for the reference pixel and adding a luminance value in the optimal estimated plane at a reference pixel position to a result of computation.
