A transflective film is provided on an inner or outer side of a liquid crystal display panel having opposing electrodes provided between a pair of substrates with a liquid crystal layer interposed therebetween and a plurality of pixels defined by the opposing electrodes. A plurality of minute concave portions or minute convex portions are formed on the surface of the transflective film. A plurality of apertures for transmitting the light from an illumination device on a back surface of the liquid crystal display panel to the dot region corresponding to each dot included in each of the pixels is formed. The plurality of apertures are arranged in the dot region and the interval between the adjacent apertures is smaller than the resolution.

Transflective film and liquid crystal display device using the same

A liquid crystal layer is composed of a liquid crystal composition having a positive dielectric anisotropy, and the liquid crystal composition is sandwiched by a pair of transparent substrates while being twisted by 220 to 260 degrees. Also, in a liquid crystal display device having an optical compensating plate and a polarizer respectively formed above and below a liquid crystal cell, a transflector is formed on the inner surface of the transparent substrate of the liquid crystal cell, the transflector has a high-reflectivity film having a plurality of fine apertures therein, and the high-reflectivity film has a diffuse reflection surface, on the surface thereof, having a controlled reflected luminance characteristic.

Transflective liquid-crystal display device

A liquid crystal display apparatus is provided in which crosstalk (after-image extending from a line displayed on the screen) is eliminated. Drive circuitry used in the above type of apparatus is also provided. A delay circuit divides an alternating-current (AC) signal generated by an alternating-current (AC) signal circuit into two signals, i.e., a common AC signal (DF COM) and a segment AC signal (DF SEG). One signal is delayed later than the other. When the common AC signal is delayed later than the segment AC signal, white crosstalk (which is a white bar having a brightness level higher than a white background, appearing on the line extending from a narrow black bar displayed on the screen) is eliminated from the screen. On the other hand, when the segment AC signal is delayed later than the common AC signal, black crosstalk (which is a black bar having a brightness level slightly lower than a white background, emerging on the line extending from a thick black bar displayed on the screen) is removed from the screen. An integrating circuit or a delay line is employed as a delay function of the delay circuit.

Liquid crystal display apparatus and drive circuitry used in the same

A liquid crystal display device of the present invention comprises a first substrate and a second substrate, each of which has a glass substrate, an electrode portion formed on the glass substrate, and an orientation film formed on the electrode portion. The first substrate and the second substrate are opposed to each other and have a liquid crystal layer encapsuled therebetween. The electrode portion includes: a display-portion electrode group formed within a display-screen region; an extraction electrode group leading the display-portion electrode group outward from at least one side of the display-screen region; and an external electrode group formed outside the display-screen region. The periphery of the external electrode group, positioned on an external area of a side on which the extraction electrode group in the display-screen region is not formed, is covered with the orientation film.

A voltage controlled oscillator includes a resonant circuit formed of an impedance in series with a voltage variable capacitance. The impedance consists of a surface acoustic wave resonator in parallel with either an inductance coil or another acoustic wave resonator.

A surface acoustic wave resonator so constructed that multiple reflection of a surface acoustic wave in interdigital electrodes is suppressed, no sub-resonance caused by the multiple reflection occurs in the inductive areas, and the resonator effects a reliable excitation.

Surface-acoustic-wave resonator

A unit comprising a printed board on which a plurality of surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices are installed. Each SAW device comprises a piezoelectric substate on which arrays of strip electrodes are formed. A cover is mounted over the SAW devices to hermetically seal the surfaces of the SAW devices on which the electrodes are formed. The terminals of the board are directly coupled to the terminals of the SAW devices.

Unit carrying surface acoustic wave devices

A surface acoustic wave device comprising a device body and a multilayer printed board. The body has a piezoelectric substrate on which arrays of strip electrodes are formed. The body is covered with an insulating film except for locations where terminals are formed. The printed board is spaced a given distance from the body. The terminals of the printed board are connected via a solder layer with the terminals of the device body.

Surface acoustic wave device

An elastic surface wave element which has a grille-shaped electrode formed on a piezoelectric substrate is improved by having the grille-shaped electrode portion thereof covered with an insulating film made of tantalum pentoxide or silicon nitride. The insulating film functions to minimize the degradation of properties suffered by the conventional elastic surface wave element and preclude substantially completely the phenomenon of short-circuit between the electrode bars of the grille-shaped electrode.
